The Max Headroom charater was a very simple thinker and got into or caused trouble through out the series. But he was a learning program, and he learned quickly. He was able to get himself out of his trouble with his kind of logic (digital) and he would help the main charaters in the area to solve most of their problems.
Computer Graphics got a good boost with the Introduction of the Max Headroom series.
Even though the computer graphics were fake graphics (Matt Frewer in heavy make-up and plactic wig head piece) the concept took off and other items were quickly digitized into computer graphics. With this cause and effect ... every year after that, computer graphics got better and better.
