I live in Florida. I have fished since I was a toddler. I've been taking out a boat to fish since I was 10 years old (I grew up on a lake). I've fished a lot of places (fresh and salt) from Florida, to Texas, to New Hampshire and everywhere in between. I've used depth finders everywhere I've gone...this has got to be one of the most simple, effective fish/depth finder I have ever used. AND it's compact and ready to go anywhere on any boat! I've used this on my Kayak! (Bungies are your friend!) But seriously...this a GREAT finder. I only one issue with it in the 2 1/2 to 3 years I've owned it. The suction cup dried up and cracked all along the edges...it would no longer hold suction...which means I ran aground a few times and couldn't use it for one of my fishing trips. (I spent 3 months without fishing, and it cracked on me then) But no worries. I bought two replacement suction cups through amazon...who aren't necessarily "replacement" from manufacturer, but I took a chance and turned out they are better than original. So...buy this if you LOVE fishing and need a portable/convenient fish/depth finder. & buy yourselves some replacement suction cups just in case and keep it in your tackle box. Tight lines everyone! If you are in the market for a portable fish finder you've just found it. I have a 12' jonboat and this unit work perfectly for my needs. I am typically on the water for 4 hours each outing with the finder on the whole time. Battery usage is minimal. Suction cup works great (I only use a trolling motor and the suction cup has yet to pop off). The only reason I gave it a 4 is that the space where the battery sits could have had a larger opening. It's very tight plugging in the battery terminals.
