I chose this model because it was small enough to fit on my counter. It replaced a GE one that I got at WalMart about 8 years ago that finally threw in the towel. I am so disappointed with this Black & Decker. It looks fine, but feels flimsy. It takes forever to toast something, and the dial for setting the time/shade of toast is big, and therefore difficult to set accurately. If you toast a second slice immediately after a first, it takes twice as long. I have not used the oven/broil functions yet, but I did have to talk my boyfriend into not returning this one - for now.

Don't be put off by bad reviews

Before buying this oven, I read the reviews - good and bad. The good features I liked, and the bad features I decided to find work-around solutions. It's true, the oven does get very hot, and therefore I always lay a pot holder on the door when I reach in to get my food — or I use tongs to grab it. Also, I keep my oven very clean. The only way the oven will catch on fire if there is something in it to burn – like grease or crumbs. So I clean it and empty the crumb tray after every use. Another problem I encountered was setting the dial when making toast. The pointer on the knob is hard to line up with the timer markings. So when toasting bread I use the upper rack, turn the dial past ten minutes to start, and stop it half way between the medium and light toast settings. Then I set my kitchen timer for 1 minute and 48 seconds, and when the timer goes off, I immediately take out the toasted bread. This makes a perfect piece of toast for me. Another tip when baking is to use a good quality oven thermometer when preheating the oven, and you will always know when the oven has reached the desired temperature.

A simple, inexpensive toaster oven. Does an adequate top-browning, i.e., broiling job (with a too small tray). If you're looking for a toaster, spend some money and get a toaster.

This very spacious toaster oven oddly doesn't take a lot of counter space! I was pleased about this and more. It is extremely stylish, large capacity, bakes perfectly and all functions are simple to use. Don't let all three dials fool you....this is simple! So much product and performance for such a small price!

The toaster oven is really nice looking, no question. The baking pan is much smaller than any I have ever seen. The worst part is that the electrical cord is only 24 inches long . (From the rear right side) It didn't come close to any electrical outlet. I had to spend $13 to get a 3 foot heavy duty extension cord which is why I only gave a 'fair' review on 'value.'

It takes quite awhile to preheat, almost 10 minutes. My other toaster ovens preheated in a minute. If I could I would take another star off of my review.

Can't go wrong with this one. No assembly required. Just need hot pads, eyes, and plug it in. Ticker isn't loud. Bell isn't either. You hear it but it doesn't make you jump. For one person or 3, it is great. My daughter, in another state called and we'd both purchased this same item. That's the 3.

I bought this Black & Decker toaster oven at Walmart several months ago. I was replacing the old Black & Decker oven that I had for many years. The old oven served me well so I selected this Black & Decker oven thinking it would be a good choice. I was wrong. The toast control is very difficult to use. It is next to impossible to set the control to get a consistent toast from one batch to another. The toast results very widely when the oven is cold verses when the oven is hot. To use the toast function requires manually shutting off the oven. The timer is useless when toasting bread. The oven function seems to work OK. I would not recommend this toaster oven to anyone. My wife is talking about buying a separate toaster for bread. I will not buy another Black & Decker toaster oven.

I purchased another brand toaster oven several months ago. It was not satisfactory and I purchased the Black & Decker Toast-R-Oven a few weeks ago. I paid about the same or a bit more for the other brand and am so pleased to find that the Black & Decker is so much better! It is a bit larger than the other brand which makes it much easier to use, but it fits very well on a counter top without being in the way. The control buttons are clearly marked with easy to follow settings. It toasts very evenly for up to four slices of bread. I have yet to use the oven function, but have no doubt that it will please me as much as the toaster function. I highly recommend this product!

I have owned B&D toaster ovens years ago. Purchased other brands twice and they broke within a year. Failure was with knobs. Returned to a brand that is reliable and this oven works great and less money than the others. Would recommend, especially for small families or retired individuals. All toaster ovens should be monitored for safety, no matter the price.

I am sorry to say that this toaster oven stopped working after 11 days. The grey plastic accent piece on one of the knobs fell off almost immediately. Then, the ticking timer stopped moving. Yes, I did turn it past the 10 minute mark. The oven continued to stay on but since the timer didn't move anymore, it never shut off. It seemed to take quite a while to heat up also as the heating elements come on for only a few seconds at a time. On the up side, it does have a very compact design.

After reading and re-reading reviews of many different toaster ovens, I decided to buy this model because of the price, the look and size, and the availability at my local store. I am very happy with my purchase. It toasts and bakes well. I was nervous about it getting too hot on the outside, as other reviews stated, but it really doesn't, any more than you would expect for a toaster oven. Excellent product.
