I bought this for birthday gift.We have niece in family that has one.It was time this year for my son to have one.He plays on our niece's when we go visit. The only negative I might say about this product is the games can be a little over priced,for the system itself. Here and there they have sales on some of the games.Overall I think we will be happy with this purchase.

I was very excited about this purchase, but then I started buying a few apps and I found out that the internal memory is like 325mb. I could not put all of my apps on the leapster. I looked online and it doesn't appear that I can buy an external memory card for it. So I have to keep alternating games on the leapster. It doesn't even give you the ability to play them on the computer since you cannot upload on them to the device. None of this information was on the website or the packaging. I guess you live and learn.

Cool system but does not work

We were excited that our son got this for Christmas because of the learning games. He loved it. It played it for a few times and was very careful with it because he liked it so much. The batteries went dead and I went to put new batteries in and it has not worked since. A rather expensive toy for the short use of the product. I guess we will look at the vtech to see what they have available.

Great features. I purchased this Leap Frog product for my 3 yr. old grandaughter's birthday, and purchased 2 units so my 2 yr. old grandson wouldnt feel left out. To my surprize he began tracing the letters and and playing with them like he already knew how to write. Great product for learning.

Watch out when buying Aps! Otherwise a good toy.

Beware! Toy's memory won't hold many Aps! When you install the software you have a 2 hr window to buy aps at a "buy 2 get 1 free" rate. They don't tell you that memory on the machine is limited and there's no way to add addl space via mem. card. I bought a lot of aps, but then was unable to download several I purchased due to memory being full. Only way to use them is to delete existing aps off machine and replace w/other aps. Videos are the memory hogs btw.. Otherwise the toy works fine.

I would have liked the product more, if it came with more installed apps. You really have to consider the continuing cost of buying cartridges or apps to keep your child entertained. The camera is a separate accessory,in which, you also have to buy apps for better use.

We bought the Leapster Explorer for our son's third birthday. He opened it on Friday and is already getting the hang of it by today (Sunday). We got him the Mr. Pencil, Madagascar, and Scooby Doo games. He is able to do parts of each of the games already. Some of it is too hard, but he can play some and will grow into the rest. We also downloaded the free game and chose Jewel Train, which he is good at and likes really well. He is not too fond of the pet game that was already loaded on the system. I think it might be a bit too "girly" for him.

I'm an elementary principal and I wish I could buy one of these for every kid that will attend my school when they are age 4 so they have a solid base of understanding when they enter kindergarten as 5 year olds. Kids think they are playing video games like older siblings DS or PSP, but they are learning important skills while they play. I especially love it for math readiness to learn. Great gift for any pre-schoolers you know, but this version actually has some games that still entertain my 7 year old as well.

My Grandson Marcos just celebrated his 5th Birthday with the Explorer from LeapFrog. My daughter & I also bought the case, the Cars 2 & the Pixar Pals. He so loves it. Now Austin his 3yr old brother has taken over the Leapster 2 & he is just loving it. I prefer to purchase learning tools for my Grandson's so they Grow with them. Walmart also offers the best prices for the Games.

This product is great when it works. After just a few months the sound stopped working and it doesn't accept most commands (including stylus). With just regular every day play... I don't think it very durable considering it's a child's toy. Very disappointing!

I do think the games provide great educational information for kids but the technology is lacking. I have a current version of windows but the cd in the package would not allow me to download and do the initial set-up so I had to go to leapfrog's web site and find another verison. That is a one-time issue. When using the game cartridges I purchased, the hand held device hesitates and moves very slowly. Impacts the learning somewhat. It did not just happen once it happened numerous times. Annoying and disappointing - not what you would expect in 2012.

The annoying thing is the Leapster Explorer is always reminding my daughter to have us parents plug it into the computer for more games. The downloaded games off the computer are very short so my daughter is wanting to plug into the computer alot more often, almost should have bought her a computer lol. Otherwise I do like this learning tool. I can set new spelling words for her that she needs to practice from school, that is awesome.

I recommend the Leapster Explorer VS the Leap Pad for younger children for the following reasons: the size is just right, games are age appropriate and they grow with the child, very interactive my son can work alone or we can work together and its VERY durable the leadpster has been droped on tiled floor and it still works great!). I HIGHLY recommend this product and YES spend the extra money on the charger!!!

My kindergartener LOVES this gaming system! You know when you get an educational game that is supposed to be appropriate for (let's say) ages 4-6, and then your child starts to play it and has no idea how to answer the questions because they haven't been taught any of the material yet . . . and then they keep loosing and getting frustrated?? Well, this system seems to be very "forgiving" with wrong answers and actually tries to teach the kids simple concepts like counting and the alphabet without frustrating them. My only disappointment is that each new game is $20-$30. That's a lot!
