I love my new Brother SE400. The machine is very easy to use right out of the box, and the instruction manuals are also easy to use. There is also a cd that visually explains anything you might have a problem understanding.

I've only had this machine for a week but I've played with all the main features, made several items and so far I'm quite impressed. It offers quite a selection of features for a machine in this price range. Easy to use (large, easy to read touch screen stitch selection and automatic needle threader), not huge so it's easy to move and store for those who don't have a dedicated sewing area and the embroidery attachment is pretty impressive for a small non-commercial grade unit. Again it's only been one week but I've used it daily and have no complaints about the machine. The manual has a couple of sections I had to re-read to understand fully but this machine is quite advanced technology wise so that was to be expected. Just be sure to take the time to read the manual even if you already know how to sew because of the advanced features. I read a lot of reviews on this machine prior to purchasing it and most of the negative reviews sounded like issues that arose due to owners not reading the manual first.

i studdied on the in's and out of this sewing machine the brothers se-400 i wanted it but did not want to spend this much money for a beginer on embroidery. but my husband say do it you want it and i did and i have no regrest i just love it easy to use . what fun

I bought the se-400 not really thinking it would be such a great machine, boy was I surprized. I am 74 so it probably took me a little longer to get sewing on it than the younger generation, because I had to keep refering to the book for instructions. Wow automatic needle threader, never knew there was such a thing. I've seen peoples comments that its not a heavy machine,it seems to be to me. I can run the machine at top speed and it stays put. Learning the embroidery now and love it. All the instructions are easy to understand and with pictures. I was a little afraid to use the computerized part of the machine but it is so easy to learn. My only regret is that now I wished I had bought a bigger model as I love to sew and have 17 grandchildren, lost track of how many great and great, great children. If your a sewer and emboiderer this is a great machine as well for the beginner embroiderer like me. You will not be disappointed.

I got this machine a couple months ago. I have made a quilt on it which was my main reason for buying this machine. I was able to free motion quilt with ease. I have never had a machine easier to thread or use. The speed control and the sew button are also great features. You can turn the speed down low and push the button or use the foot control to sew at any speed. Makes it easier to do a tight spot on your project. I also chose this machine for the embroidery feature. I had never used an embroidery machine before but this one is a piece of cake to use and does a beautiful job. The self threader is awesome and the lcd panel is easy to operate. The only thing I am not impressed with is the thread holder. I wish it was upright instead of laying on its side. If you do not put the ring on the end tight the thread spool will come off.

I haven't used the embroidery feature yet otherwise, so far so good. Very easy to thread. The automatic button hole maker is absolutely simple to use and the darning stitches seem like they'll be beneficial and can be used to decorate jeans. The CD was very helpful -- I advise you to view it. I love the scissors and needle up/down options --- these features are usually found in only high end machines. A few things that I'm alittle disappointed in are: no separate thread spool for winding the bobbin; the many utility stitches aren't real exciting - they're like a bunch of straight stitches made into patterns (I was hoping for some leaves, little flowers, etc.); the bobbin doesn't seem to hold much thread. I hope I'm able to add to my reveiw as I progress with the machine.

Directed my mom to this machine last Black Friday and so glad I did! Excellent value for a great product! She used it daily for the past year. She just upgraded so she could use 5x7 designs because this one only does 4x4 and smaller.
