Best of the best in this price range. Assembly, while complex, is easy as long as you follow the directions exactly. Machine works very well and has everything you need to get started.
I was planning on ordering the next model up from this one at Amazon but they charged almost $200 for shipping and Wal-Mart only charged $23. I also ordered the optional 3 year extended warranty for only $28. It arrived on time and it was reasonably difficult to put together. I used to build Apache Attack helicopters for the Army so I know my way around technical drawings. These were confusing and vague. If you are not a handy person with tools you might want to hire someone to put it together for you. It took me 10 hours. But I ended up with a nice piece of equipment that does everything they say it does.
I've had my new XR45 "up and running" for about a week now and I just love it. It is rock solid and functions perfectly. I looked at several "clones" and chose the XR45 partly because it weighed substantially more (for the same weight pack), expecting that the extra weight meant more metal and less plastic and thus more solidity and durability. I am glad I did. I also looked at several choices for a compact home workout station and decided on the XR45 style because it offered several "have to have" features and didn't lack too much. Since getting the XR45 however, I have found that the flexibility of the system allows me to mimic most of what I thought I would be missing ... pull-ups and chin-ups for example. In short, the XR45 lives up to the quality and versatility you would expect from the Gold's Gym name.
A few comments and hints on assembly: The gym arrived (at Walmart, Site to Store with free delivery) in one (exceedingly well-packed) compact 225# box, which is pretty unwieldy to deal with. Walmart loaded it for us, but two guys make it a lot easier once you get it home. Also, the box is a bottom section and a equal-sized lift-off lid. Which means you can use the lid to break up and carry the load inside and up or down stairs, etc., in two (or more) easier-to-manage loads. FOLLOW THE ASSEMBLY DIRECTIONS, SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY, ONE STEP AT A TIME. I can't say that assembly is easy, but it is pretty straightforward IF YOU DO SO, although you really do need two people (or three hands). The small hardware (nuts, screws, bolts, etc) are mostly on three large paper cards, individually blister-wrapped by type and VERY WELL-labeled and cross-referenced clearly on the assembly diagrams. Only take off what you need for any given step to avoid mixing them up. There are thousands of pieces (just kidding) and assembly takes quite some time. It took us (altogether) about 8 hours to fully assemble it, partly due to just hunting around for the right pieces and making sure we understood the correct orientation, etc. The reward for your effort is worth it. We finished error-free, with a well-designed, well-made, rock-solid product. It makes a good workout easy and convenient. I can already tell a difference.
My fiancé and I have been using this gym every day and love it. You can do 45 different workouts with a lot of resistance and total of 8 weights (12 lbs each). Great for your home gym, takes up less space than we expected.

Great Gym

Great gym, great price, easy instructions (even though it took me a week to put it together lol....only because I work), great feeling after a good workout on it!!
Great assembly instructions, superior customer service and ok machine. There was a single damaged piece that was not essential to assembly. I called customer service, got a domestically located rep, and was warranty registered, assembly quoted and damaged item ordered all on the same quick call with the same friendly rep. For the machine itself, lots of potential exercises, though the pulley system is somewhat stiff, especially during the return (or negative resistance) motion. This may be due to pulley bolts being too tight, break in period or just the way it will always be. The workout quarters seem a little cramped for those of us with larger bellies but hopefully it will be a better fit soon. I have two wishes for this machine. One would be an adjustable bench and the other would be a retaining clip for the upper pulley lag bar. The machine itself is not that heavy, which is a negative. If you try to do free standing curls on the lower pulley with the lat bar or a curl bar attachment, you may experience the machine lift up instead of the weight. I've tried loosening the pulley bolts but this did not help. Overall, an ok machine for the money spent but if you have a couple hundred more, go with a more solid unit and try it out before you buy if you can.
This home gym is a good starter gym for someone that is out of shape and overweight. Just be careful of weight as it has a 300lb capacity. You won't have a large amount of money invested if you find a regular exercise regimen is not for you. You can always upgrade to a more elaborate and costly gym if you decide to continue and get really serious about your exercise. This gym offers a sufficient number of exercises for a beginner.
The machine is excellent, nice materials, easy to install, but a little noisy. But with the music I played cant even hear it. The pulley from the upper part, is a little difficult to install.
I received this product early and was easy to set up. I installed it yesterday and used it. I used it this morning and now my arms are sore...beautifullll
My husband absolutely loves him gym system. It only took him a few hours to set up/w clear, easy to understand instructions......Now, just to find a way to prevent this workout from interfering with "MY" time.

Decent Gym - Good Luck With The Parts

Ordered online - site to store. It took about 10 days to receive. I set aside a Saturday afternoon to assemble. After working on assembly for awhile, I ran into an issue in step 11. Part 10 (left arm) and part 11 (handle) did not fit together. The holes in the left arm did not match up with the holes on the handle. No problem...I'll just call the 1-800 number. I reached an answering machine...customer service is only Monday-Friday 8-4 MT. I call back on Monday and they shidped out the part. I receive it 8 days later. So I have a partially assembled gym sitting in my basement for about 10 days.
Total assembly was about 4 hours. Having the parts labelled would have helped. I was a little unsure of which pullies to use where. Just take your time and walk through the cable assembly slowly.
The machine itself seems pretty solid. Plenty of options for a variety of exercises. I'm not sure how well the preacher/curl pad will hold up. We'll see.
I bought this home gym to keep in shape and it also inspired my children to do the same. Good workout plans comes included and easy to use. Assembly is time consuming but easy instructions. Gym takes up less space than expected. Good buy!
Site to store was fast as can be expected, however box was so damaged so bad that parts were everywhere. After inspection we did not want to wait another 10 days so took it home in hopes all parts were there. Assembly was fairly easy all parts were there even has a bag of extra parts. Instructions were not as easy as they could have been and some parts were not marked right in the instructions. None of the parts are marked so you have to look closely at each part and picture to figure out where it goes as they skip some things until later on in the instructions.
Overall The machine works well (make sure you grease all moving parts with lithium grease not grease they send) Top draw down bar is tweaked but I can live with it as it does not bother with performance. I would recommend this product but with caution.
I purchased this home gym because I do not have time during the work week or the money to go to a local gym. I spent a few weekends reading all of the reviews from the various machines that Walmart.com had to offer. The reviews for this machine were the best of all of the ones I looked at. And they were right! This machine is great and I have no complaints! For all those who have read reviews about this taking time to put together, they are right. It took me a couple of hours to put together over the span of two-three days. But it was all worth it. I have had the machine for almost a month now and I have seen results already! I have never purchased anything online from Walmart.com or used their site to store option, but I am very pleased with how fast the order arrived (one whole week faster than they said it would). After the gym arrives at the store, the Walmart associates even help you load the box into your car. Be aware - the box is HEAVY! The weights make the box so heavy that I had to open it in my car and carry individual pieces into the house. Not a big deal. Another reason I went with this gym was that it came with a mat to put under the machine. This helps protect the carpet or other flooring you have in your house.
All in all, I am VERY pleased with Walmart and this purchase! I would recommend any beginner to purchase this machine.
The box wasn't too big for my Honda CRV. I had to lower the back seats though. So picking up the box that came in was super easy. (I had help from the clerk to load it). Took me a day to finish the assemblies. The instructions was straightforward and careful with the details. I wish that I lubricate the holes of the individual weights before putting it together. The Gym is pretty much a beginners Gym for toning. I wanted a simplified Gym for indoor of my house to work out when I'm bored. I was not going to go body building. I just wanted to burn some calories and build little bit of muscle. The Gym is great for a quick rep and go. It was not too big enough to fill up the whole room. So it worked great for me.
Time consuming when assembling, just be patience and follow instruction carefully. Once it's assembled it meets my expectation. Great for whole family to work out and tone the body. Can't beat the quality and price. Almost having your own mini gym in your home instead paying membership at the gym and rarely using it.
Just bought this gym. The fact that is is Gold's Gym brand was a huge plus for me. I trust Gold's Gym for quality. The setup has a good variety of workout options. Put it together with one other person in about 4 hours. I did break one non-critical piece when I was assembling it. It was just the "stopper" for the leg extension, so it's not a huge deal, but I was a little disappointed that it broke from overtightening.
