The Lord of the Rings: War in the North is an epic multiplayer action/RPG video game based on the renowned stories by J.R.R. Tolkien. Breaking new ground as the first mature-rated LOTR video game, The Lord of the Rings: War in the North evolves the RPG genre through innovative online, interdependent coop play for up to three players who form their own Fellowship and engage in brutal combat. Exploring previously unseen lands, story elements and characters as well as elements familiar from past feature films, gamers experience extensive character customization and development, expansive coop gameplay options and upgradeable weapons, skills and special abilities. Players must play together or perish as they work to defeat Saurons forces in the North.
This game is completely different from any other Lord of the Rings game but still is one at the core. Most people will not like this game because you do not get to play as the normal characters and because of how you control your team. By controlling your team I mean you only get to play as one of the three at a time and the CPU controls the other two and decides what equipment to use. There is a multiplayer option for this game.
This is also the only Lord of the Rings game to get the rated M for mature rating. This got this rating because of the gore and some of the killing scenes where you cut off limbs, heads and other things. Now in saying that, this game does not show near the gore that God of War 3 showed.
