It's what I needed.

I actually purchased this from Sam's Club; I only paid $49.99 for it and let me tell you, it works for what I need. I do not print, copy or scan a lot. I do not fax at all since I do not have a land line. If I print 20 pages a week, that's a lot for me and it works just fine. I have printed photos that come out looking pretty dagon good. I have scanned and the images come out "okay", but documents come out just fine. The only thing I do not like about the printer is it does not have an "out" tray. The pages go in through the "in" tray, but there is not a designated "out" tray for the documents to sit on if you are printing a lot. Overall, for less than $50 this is a perfect printer for me!!!

I bought this printer 6 monthsago, but I also bought the extended warranty...good thing I did. I'm sending this printer back when I receive the address label from the insurance company. The problem is...it never worked well...very undependable! When I try to print the scanner starts and then, since there is nothing in the scanner, the paper comes out blank. All I want to do is print and it won't even do that! This is the worst printer I've ever owned! I may try an Epson next. I need a reliable printer and this one isn't it!

The only negative is it does not have a paper feed for multiple page documents, you have to load them one page at a time.

I have spend a total of about 5 hours on the phone with HP trying to get the software to install. There seems to be a problem with Vista and the software. Overall the printer works great. Thought we had it fixed and then we shut our computer down and when it was turned back on the problem started all over again. I am taking this back to Wal-mart asap!

Great copies and excellent scanning capabilities. You can scan a multipage document as a single PDF file. The unit delivered to me needed a software patch to get the scanning working properly. Getting HP's attention took a bit of effort (one wasted day), but the solution was easy - a simple download from the HP website. I have the unit hooked up and tested for fax, but haven't needed to use it yet. No reason to believe it won't work as intended.
If you use the printer often, you should use the black XL ink cartridge to save some money. The standard cartridge is rated at "up to" 200 pages, but you won't get nearly that many.

Performs all functions with great ease and professional results. Was extremely easy to install for a non-technical user like me.
What was really nice, BEST BUY had this on sale for $89.98. At Walmart, I paid $59.98 for the exact same product!
Thank you Walmart.

Works well. Would expect to pay more for so many features. Not much larger footprint than regular inkjet and it's an all-in-one! I like it.

My printer did not work out of the box. The printer cartridges would not install, I had 3 people try and no one could get the cartiridges to go in. I took the printer back to Walmart and got a refund and went to a Frys and bought a Lexmark printer and had it up and running in an hour or so.

Linux drivers , full functionality.

Setting this printer up with Ubuntu was a snap. The operating system found the printer and configured it with just one mouse click. Every function works well. This is why most of my printers are HP as they support my operating system of choice. If there is a driver for the device it is easier to configure it with Linux than Windows.

Review 18 for HP Officejet 4500 Desktop All-in-One Printer/Scanner/Copier

I've used HP deskjet printers for many years both at work and at home and been WELL satisfied. The only reason I decided to purchase a new HP printer is because the color print head went out on my HP 843C and this printer was compatible with my newer Mac OS version and the processor I am currently using.
The first HP Officejet 4500 Desktop All-in-One I purchased had to be returned because 1 of the print cartridges would not snap in. The 2nd HP Officejet 4500 Desktop All-in-One set up fine and with no problems. This printer is easy to setup but is loud and slow. I'm not impressed at all.
Would prefer using my HP 843C and may check into getting another color print head for it. At least I know the HP 843C was an excellent printer.
