DOESN'T CONNECT TO VERIZON FIOS

DON'T BUY THIS if you have Verizon Fios. I've spent hours and hours with techs from both Vizio and Verizon and they can't get this player to connect wirelessly. There's nothing unusual in my set-up and I've had no problems wirelessly connecting a desk-top, lap-top, printer, or ROKU player. The Verizon people tried all kinds of things without success, walking me through all kinds of manual input. The Vizio people were clueless; I waited on hold for 20 minutes at a time, on a dozen phone calls, and they had no ideas. I tried two different machines and neither worked; tried bringing my router close to it, but no help. Wasted lots and lots of time; got lousy, lousy service. If you have Verizon Fios, I say, stay away from Vizio. And maybe even if you don't. Annapolis.

WE ARE ON OUR 2ND VIZIO BLUERAY PLAYER WITH WIRELESS INTERNET AND NETFLIX APPS, IT WAS THE BEST VALUE FOR ALL THE FEATURES BUT OUR FIRST ONE BROKE AFTER A WEEK WITH ONLY SQUIGGLY LINES APPEARING. AFTER MUCH TROUBLE SHOOTING AND TRYING IT ON ANOTHER TV WE TOOK IT BACK AND GOT A NEW ONE. THIS ONE ONLY LASTED OVERNIGHT, NOW IT COMES ON FOR ABOUT A SECOND AND TURNS OFF. SORRY VIZIO YOU LOST A CUNTOMER, GOING TO GET A SAMSUNG OR SONY. I MAY PAY MORE BUT ATLEAST THE DEVICE WILL WORK FOR MORE THAN A COUPLE HOURS.

Couldn't Connect to Internet

I bought this blu-ray player with the hopes of being able to stream Netflix movies to my TV wirelessly. I read dozens of reviews of other customers who said set up was easy and how pleased they were with this product. Unfortunately, I couldn't get it to connect to the internet. I spent several hours on the phone with both Vizio and Verizon, my internet provider. They both tried a few "techy" fixes without success. In the end, Vizio said the problem lies with Verizon and Verizon said the problem lies with Vizio's product. Either way, I'm still not able to connect to the internet with it so I am taking it back to the store and buying a Roku box instead.

At 1st I was quite pleased w/ this product - easy to set up etc.... However, I've now owned it over 3 months and regret having ever purchased it. My DVD/Bluray is often held ransom, with the door unable to be openned leaving me to watching reruns or the same movie over and over. Othertimes it will simply stop working in the middle of a movie.
My recommendation is to save a bit more money and buy a different and better name brand.

This blu ray player would not connect to the internet. I called customer service(if you want to call it that) I call it NO service, they wanted me to take a pic of the play along with the receipt showing the price and email it to them so they could determine if the machine was broken (really) how can they look at a picture and determine if the player was broken. I returned it. I will never purchase any Vizio product again.

Not what I hoped for

We chose this product based upon the fact that our kids got us a Vizio flat panel TV, which we really enjoy, and because of it's claim to connect via Wifi to the internet. The unit searched and found our network, but when I entered the encryption key, the connection attempt failed. Multiple times the same thing happened. I first called my ISP and they couldn't help me. Said to call Vizio support. I had to wait until they were open on Sunday morning (another negative:no 24 hour support). The tech person was not much help the first time around. He told me to turn off my modem/router and wait 5 minutes (a reset), then turn it back on with the Blue Ray player turned on. Well that didn't work. I called support again and they told me this particular unit only supports a WEP-shared network security setting and I'd have to go in and change my security settings for it to work. This would have meant all other devices in my home connected to the internet would have to be reset as well, so I am returning this unit and going with a Panasonic model. They should have built this thing with more options for internet network connectivity, especially since I read that WEP-shared is less secure than my current security settings. The player worked as it should-for DVD's anyway, just the WiFi internet feature is substandard.

the first one I received never worked - so I sent it back and got another one. Now, after 1 1/2 years it has stopped working and we'll have to tear it apart to get the DVD out.
when it was working, it was quite nice; but afraid this product is not long lasting or reliable.
I would not recommend purchasing this product.

Needs some work

I bought this player to be able to stream Netflix movies to my television using the built-in wireless card. I also have a Vizio television which I am very pleased with.
There were three significant problems with my unit that led to my returning it to a Walmart store. One was probably a defect (the remote); the the other two are design flaws.
First, the remote control would not work reliably. To get it to work, you had to jiggle or spin the batteries, much as you can do with a typical remote when the batteries are low. Even with two new sets of batteries (three, if you count the included batteries), I could not get the remote to reliably work. This led to confusion as to whether the DVD was not responding or hung up, or if the remote was not functioning. There are not enough controls on the DVD player itself to use any of the setup functions. You MUST have a working remote. However, since this DVD player is hard to find in stores locally (I checked four Walmarts before ordering it online), I had no hope of getting a new remote or exchanging the unit.
Second, the built-in wireless antenna is very weak. Even when I moved my router to within 25 feet of the DVD player, I could not get a reliable connection. I have a brand new wireless router (B/G/N compatible) with relatively basic security (a pre-shared keyword). What I found was that the DVD would connect to my neighbor's unprotected wireless network (with a weaker signal, 50 feet and several walls away) more readily than it would connect to mine! Every time I turned on the DVD player, I would have to play with the wireless settings, connecting, disconnecting, and reconnecting multiple times until a working connection would establish.
Third, I think the computer processor powering this DVD player is woefully underpowered. Booting up took a while, as did processing any command issued by the remote.
When the unit would connect and something from Netflix would stream, the picture and sound were flawless, and in the four movies I was able to watch over a five day period, I only had one episode of re-buffering of the stream. I just didn't think the setup process each time was worth the hassle. Certainly, a houseguest or a non-technically savvy, impatient family member would never get it to work.
I did not connect the unit directly to an Ethernet connection but I'm sure it would have worked much better. But the point was to avoid stringing computer wires to the television.

Picture is good. We bought two and they both occasionally need to be unplugged and restarted because they won't load the aps or start up. Sometimes it freezes. We have had them for two weeks and are returning them. It is easy to use otherwise. Huluplus isn't working on it but I think that's a huluplus issues.

I purchased two of these, and my wife and I are disappointed with them. I have two Vizio HDTVs that I purchased several years ago when no one I knew ever heard of the brand Vizio. We have been very happy with them. I purchased the two blu-ray players expecting the same high satisfaction with them, but found that DVDs (blu-ray and regular) frequently stop while playing, and the remotes leave alot to be desired. One needs to be very close to use them. The price was low on the players, and they funtion well enough to see Netflix on my HDTVs.

Would not connect to my wireless network

This is a very good Blu Ray player. Easy to set up and operate. The menu is clearly laid out and user-friendly. It creates a beautiful video on my Vizio HDTV. The price is excellent. However, this device would not connect to my AT&T 2700HG-B gateway. It would recognize my network and other nearby networks but failed to connect after the security code was entered. I worked with Vizio support three different times over two days with no success. The first two techs had me unplug the player for ten seconds and try again. The last tech gave me step by step instructions for a manual set up from scratch. It would still not connect. After Googling for help it became apparent that others were running into the same problem. I returned the player to Walmart.

This blu-ray player had great reviews but I never got to experience them since it is not compatible with Verizon Fios. If you have Verizon Fios as your internet subscriber, I would caution against getting this model. After receiving it and not being able to get it hooked up to the internet connection (even with a long extended ethernet cable), I discovered online that it has had problems before with customers in the past that were with Verizon. I called the technical support center for Vizio and spent over an hour with them on the phone trying all sorts of ways to correct this issue. They said it was probably a defect and suggested I return it to the local Walmart store. I had already wasted the shipping charges buying it from Walmart.com so wasn't very happy about that. I ended up buying a SONY that was priced a little higher but has 3-D capabilities. The Vizio didn't have 3D but that didn't matter to me since we don't have a 3D tv. I would have liked to enjoyed the Vizio and perhaps it works well with other internet subscribers (just not Verizon).

Nice looking and sleek. Apps look to be user friendly. However, the wireless adapter was defective. After several long frustrating hours Vizio support (happy to say that Vizio support was located in Ohio) told me to jump through some hoops to get a replacement so I just returned it to Walmart instead for a different product.

The picture is oustanding, streaming from netflix and vudu is awsome. The only major drawback is the remote, has to push the buttons hard to get response, plus you must aim the remote at the player. The remote itself is cheaply made.

It is probably a great product for those who actually get it connected to the internet. I wish it had been as easy for me. It may be easy for you, or you might experience my frustration. I have no issue with the player itself...the quality of the picture and the start up speed. Like a couple other reviewers, I could not get it set-up on my network even after an extended conversation with Vizio tech support and a couple calls to the router manufacturer. Apparently there are some settings that need to be changed and Vizio could not supply key information to the router manufacturer. Whatever the problem, neither company could help with set-up so there is no need for me to keep a player that has internet capabilty that won't connect.

A good player but the remote is awful

The player is good for DVD's, Blu-Ray's etc and the Internet apps work well (Netflix, Vudu, etc. I had no problem hooking up my network with it. On the downside is the remote. It won't always respond right away and it will actually go dead if left alone for too long. The only way to get it working again it to remove the batteries and re-insert them and then it is 'OK' for a while (I have installed brand new batteries so it is not the batteries causing this). I have a learning remote that I have now programmed to replace the Vizio remote. I didn't program all the keys but the ones I have programmed don't have the problems on the Vizio. I can't recommend this player as the included remote should work, period.
