The Black and Decker 18'' cordless mower provides the freedom of a gas mower with the convenience of an electric mower. This 36-volt mulching mower is simple to start and requires no gas, oil or tune-ups. It is ideal for lawn areas typical of up to a 1/3 acre homesite. It can bag the clippings or is equipped for mulching.

This mower was 50 bucks off retail at a WalMart in Rockford, IL. The date on the owners manual said 2010 so I don't know if it sat for two years or not. I'm assuming it did. Was relatively easy to put together out of the box.
I have a relatively big yard and my main concern was whether the battery was going to last long enough for me to mow the front and back in one session. The battery indeed lasted and I was pleased with that. My grass is kind of thick, so I have had to set the mower on the highest to second to highest setting, as it seems like it might be a little much for the mower if I set it lower ( I haven't tried to mow really short). My goal is to mow twice a week instead of once. Have not used the bagger yet as I will do my best to keep the grass heighth manageable. I will also say this, if you have ground that is in any way bumpy, using this mower is a good workout. It's definitely not "easy" per se, my heart rate definitely goes up while I'm using this mower. At the setting I've used, it has cut and mulched very well (I've only used twice so far). I LOVE the fact I don't have to worry about gas, oil, etc. It's a good feeling. And the mower is easy on the ears too. I called the local Farm and Fleet to ask if they service these mowers in case I needed to ever replace the battery and they do. Good to know. Overall, this mower is perfect for a small yard, but even if your yard is medium size to a little bigger, it's still great. I would consider my front yard average, but my back yard is about 70 by 90 feet approximately. It takes me about an hour or so to mow front and back, and the battery is still going good after that. At $300.00, I thought this was an excellent buy, compared to what some electric cordless mowers cost. I highly recommend.

Review 2 for Black & Decker CM1836 18'' 36V Cordless Mower
I have only used the mower a couple times since my recent purchase and it works great. The mower does a really nice job mulching the grass and is very easy to handle. Time will tell about battery life; however, if the battery is like the rest of the mower I'll be satisfied. I ordered the mower online and had it delivered to a local Walmart. All worked well and it even arrived at the store early.

Review 3 for Black & Decker CM1836 18'' 36V Cordless Mower
I had to return this mower the very next day! After assembling and charging the mower, the next day I attempted to cut the grass. The one touch wheel adjustment comes pre-assembled (Installed) on the mower. When I attempted to adjust the height of the wheels the gears would not lock in place, therefore, not allowing for a higher wheel height adjustment. Somebody at B&D is not doing their job. I cannot believe this product was sent out defective, you only get one chance to make a good impression and believe me, I am not impressed!!! No stars!!!

I have had my Black & Decker Cordless Mower for awhile now and have mowed my small lawn several times. I like not having to put gas in the mower and never have to pull a cord to start. I love how easy it is to use and wonder why I didn't buy one long before now. I love it and have recommended this model to friends!

The Black & Decker CM1836 starts easily, is quiet, and does an excellent job of cutting the grass. It's great to have a mower with no gasoline vapors and no cord. I wish I could have purchased the self- propelled model, but it was too wide to get through my garden gate. My teen-age grandson thinks it's a breeze to push, but since I'm getting close to 80, it's hard for me to push it.

Best step up from gasoline to electric!

The only downside is in the design of the safety key and that it takes 12 hours to fully charge a wasted battery. However, everything else about this is great! I love that I don't need to pour gallons of gas and oil into the mower. Has more than enough power to cut overgrown gas. Don't listen to anyone that tells you electric mowers are weaker than gasoline mowers.
The reality is that this mower is the perfect step up from messy gasoline mowers. Do yourself a favor and invest in this mower.

I purchased this mower in August of 2010. It was marked down to $150 at my local Wal-Mart, so I figured I would give it a try. You will need NO gas or oil or extension cords. My lawn is about fifty feet by fifty feet in the back and fifty by 25 feet in the front, so a small yard. I have used this mower several times and have never had a problem with it. In fact last year I only had to charge it a total of three times. I have found that I prefer to take the mulching kit out and take the rear bagger of ( I don't have the side discharger #. If the grass is long # over six inches) I find it is best to go slow or cut twice changing the height in between. Because I am so happy with it's performance I purchased a cordless weed wacker from Black and decker as well. Now I am green for my lawn care. Can't wait until I can find a snowblower that is cordless as well.

This is my second Black and Decker rechargeable electric mower. My first one lasted 16 years, I hope this one lasts as long, also. The first one just needed a new battery, but I figured after 16 years, I'd like a new one.
It is wonderful, lightweight and quiet.

This is the worst purchase ever! It's NOT worth the money. I have less than 1/4 of an acre and it takes me 4 days to mow my lawn. It won't hold a charge for more than 1/2 hour then you have to charge the battery for at least 12 hours. If your grass is more than 3 inches high....forget it, not enough power to cut the grass and looses it's charge very quickly. Wet grass....also forget it, you have power for about 10 minutes. With this experience, I will buy a gas mower, much more powerful and I can mow my lawn in 1 day.

Review 12 for Black & Decker CM1836 18'' 36V Cordless Mower
I had about 3 gas mowers in my life which for some reason they all broke down on. This was easy to set up and no gas or oil needed. The lawn mower is efficient in battery time and power. I warn you do not let you grass grow more then 4 to 5 inches it will have a hard time cutting the yard. But when the grass is low just keep it low and it cuts amazingly smooth and powerful.

I have used this product now for two summers and it has been great for my small yard. I would highly recommend this to anyone with a small yard, and for people who regularly keep their grass cut. If you let your grass grow too high and thick, you may have more difficulty with this than with a gas powered mower. It starts up very easily (just a button), but it is not self-propelled like some other mowers. You may have to put a little more work into pushing it on angled areas compared to gas powered. Overall it has been great.

I have used this mower about 5 or 6 times. Each time it seems to get weaker and weaker. You charge it over night [or about 12 hours] and you get about 1/2 hour before it dies. It can't handle tall or wet grass. I used a corded mower [more than 1] for 26 years and always finished in 1 1/2 to 2 hours, on a bigger lawn. The last time I used this mower it took me 5 days [5 charges] to get the job done. I hope I can trade it in on a corded mower.

Very happy with the product. I've only used the mower for two cuts. The first cut the charge didn't last through the entire job. I only charged it for 12 hours and the grass was high and wet. The second cut was a breeze with a full charge. I would recommend this mower.

Good mower/mulcher. I mow the whole lawn on one charge and there is alot of juce left over. I looked at the book and they don't want you to oil it. talk about 0 emmissions. I figure if it lasts 5 tears it is worth the bucks. My last one from tis company lasted 10 so it made money. this one is eaisier to work on. one 3/4 wrench to pull the blade. easy to use and store. I like it.

Set up was easy enough, but than I went to plug it in to charge it and nothing. Checked what I was doing at least five times, it's a pretty simple process, no doubt I'm hooking it up right. Called customer service and of course they are closed so I sent them an e-mail. I'm still waiting to hear back. I left it plugged in overnight on the off chance it was charging and the red light wasn't coming on...nothing. I am hopeful that it's just a bad charger, but I thought it came with at least a partial charge and it's not starting up at all. I was aware that because I ordered it on-line I can't return it, but I'm more than a little worried I'll have to take it to a service center. The closest one is 170 miles away. The price of gas plus the time it will take will make this a bad, bad deal. I was aware that one other review reported the same problem, but I thought it was a relatively small risk I was taking. If I had to do over, I wouldn't order this.
I never received an answer by e-mail but did call Black and Decker's customer service. They are sending a new charger but I was told it would get here in 7-10 days. 7-10 days, really? I was sent something that didn't work and they are so less than concerned that they messed up. And there is no way to know if this will resolve the issue. At this point, I'm trying to figure out how to return it for my money back, which is sad because I was really excited about buying this product.

The Black and Decker mulching mower has exceeded my expectations. It is much lighter and quieter than my Honda gas mower and cuts as well and mulches even better. Needless to say, I don't have to get annual tune-ups, use gasoline, or constantly check the oil. I feel I am doing my part for the environment with this product.

Worst Lawnmower I've Ever Had

I assembled and tried it for the first time over the weekend. It's heavy to push even with nothing in the grass catcher. The cutting path is too narrow. The mower struggles when cutting dense (not high) grass, but does the bald areas all right. I guess because it struggles over dense grass, that's what causes the charge to run out fast. It's very hard to back up a step or turn this mower. I wasn't able to finish my lawn mowing - I gave up - and I'm returning the mower to the store. What a waste of money and this mower wasn't cheap!
