Well lets be honest here... this thing is a durn good deal for bot even $100. The sheet metal ain't like aluminum foil as mentioned in another review, but it ain't any real heavy gauge stuff either. Should last a few years with decent care. Overall it works alright out of the box, but has a few "smoke leaks" in different places. Mainly where the upper and lower halves of the firebox are bolted together, and also the lid on the cookin chamber leaks around it's edges. I welded the firebox seam up, and as for the lid... I'll just get some hi temp seal material. The smoker does get up to a stable temperature quickly, and seems to hold it fine also. Only thing I dont like about it is there aint an ash pan or any way to clean the firebox easily. Overall a good smoker that just needs a few tweaks to become a great smoker.
Tip for those who are new to smoking: that cap on top of the smokestack should be wide open at all times... unless you ain't cookin. It's a rain hat, not a damper. The box and/or manual might say it can be used as a damper but that's just not what it was ever meant to be. Control heat and smoke with the firebox damper only. You dont want to trap the smoke in the chamber or you'll get a "creosote cook"... which tastes bad. Smoke should flow freely thru it... just like you dont throttle an engine by it's exhaust, you throttle intake air...Same principle applies here.

This smoker grill's firebox is so small that it won't hardly hold one hour worth of ashes. You can barely smoke a hot dog on it and you could not remove ashes while it was hot. I returned it to the store for a full refund even after I had tried to use it twice. I ended up buying the one that was much bigger than this one. The bigger one is just like the big one I used for many years before it rusted out. I love the larger one. I recommend the Char-Broil American Gourmet 700 Series Charcoal Grill with Offset Firebox or the Char-Broil Silver Smoker Offset Charcoal Grill. They cost almost twice as much but is well worth it.

This grill just like the last Char-Broil grill is garbage....the first time you cook on it the heat paint blisters and peels off. The last one we had we had to sand it and repaint it with heat paint...we just got this one put together and lit a small fire to season the grates and the paint blistered off the blessed thing. so just as we had to do with the first one we will have to sand this one down and repaint it so it doesn't rust through. SAVE YOUR MONEY

I got this product for my Husband's birthday. He loves it! He has grilled out twice since we got it. I bought it because it was just the right size for our little family and it had a smoker on it. So far it has been a great value and was far meeting expectations I am actually shocked it is as nice as it is.

Review 13 for Char-Broil American Gourmet Charcoal Smoker
A few tips I learned, first make sure you get the break-in process hot enough to burn off the chemical smell when heated the first time, I had to add a second load of coals to achieve this. Second I found out the further from the fire box you put meat the slower it cooks. The far right side of the grill just seems to keep stuff warm and the far left side will cook really fast even after adjusting the upper and lower vents. This smoker smokes very well and it is not that hard to clean out the ashes if you put Extra Heavy Duty Aluminum Foil under the grate in the fire box also under the grill grates in the grill area makes drip cleanup a breeze.

Don't believe the hype.

I have been smoking meats for over 20 years. The first time using this grill, the paint started chipping and peeling. It cooks very unevenly. I smoked ribs on this for 9 hours at 250 degrees and the meat was raw. After checking, the right side of the grill was under 100 degrees. However, the pork shoulder on the left side by the fire box was charred after 30 minutes. It used 4 times more charcoal than my webber to maintain the temp on the thermometer. I think most folks on here are using it like a charcoal grill with coals on the bottom. If you want a smoker, don't waste your money and time. I will be returning this.

If you are just wanting to get something small and inexpensive, this is okay but not as a gift to a friend because it is a lot of hassel to put it together.

Review 16 for Char-Broil American Gourmet Charcoal Smoker
I bought this online for my boyfriend and was a little worried at first when I picked it up because the box it came in was so small! However, he was really excited to open it and put it together right away! All together it took about an hour to assemble with me reading the instructions and sometimes showing the pictures, the instructions were super easy and the process was quick. Unfortunately, our box was missing the assembly instructions but I was able to download them straight from Walmart's website so it wasn't too much of a problem, there were also care and usage instructions which were very handy for newbie grill/smoker owners like us. We used the smoker this past weekend for a pork tenderloin, chicken legs and hot dogs and everything tasted amazing! This was a very good deal for the price!

This is my first smoker. I wanted something small and inexpensive. This product met both of those expectations. The instruction to assemble the product were well written. The box was missing 2 leg braces, so I had to contact customer service to have the missing items sent to me. I called customer the next morning. The person I spoke to was friendly however the process to have the parts sent out was a bit extensive. In order to have the parts that the company forgot to include in the package, I had to prove that I owned the smoker. (they probably receive thousands of calls everyday from people requesting leg braces). So, I had to either mail or fax a copy of the original receipt. They would not accept an email containing a PDF of the receipt. So, luckily, I had a scanner at my house and a fax machine, so I sent a copy to the company. Even though I provided my phone numbers and email address, I received no further contact from the company. 10 days later I did receive the leg braces, and was able to finish the assembly. My 1st smoking experience went well. Although, the paint on the top of the smoker box pealed off and after 1 week is rusted. I read in the owners manual how to re-pain the smoker when this happens. I did not expect it to occur after one use.

This works great. I am very happy with this grill. I have a larger one that is the same at my home in MI. This one works perfect for us. It is big enough to do a large turkey or several 5 lb roasts. I can smoke or cook over the hot coals. Not quite as heavy as I would have liked but it is going to work fine. Just taking me a little bit to get used to keeping the heat controlled but getting pretty good at it after using 3- 4 times now.

The grill is too small for a family of 4. This grill is great for a person grilling for his or her self. It cannot hold a slab of ribs and other items. Extremely small and the smoker can fit a cornish hen. The quality is fine but it is definately for a single person.
