this grill just like all the items put out by char-broil do the following ..WE HAVE HAD THREE OF THEIR GRILLS.. I would buy a grill from a different company, the paint blusterers the first use ...you will have to sand it and repaint the whole thing or it will rust through..this is GARBAGE

Review 2 for Char Broil Offset Charcoal Smoker
Great for learning how to smoke

I am giving this smoker/grill all excellent ratings because it performs as adverstises (as long as you read the directions). For the price you are not going to get a heavy duty sealed smoker. I had a few bent parts that had to be bent back, the left side of the lid was bowed out a little to far for me to get it all the way back. Thus the gap is quite a bit bigger now where it sits on the bottom part of the grill. A lot of smoke and heat escape around all the doors and dampers, where the smoke box connects and both lids. The carcoal is a bit of a chore to clean out of the smoker box and the barrel. I will be adding a metal plate that can be lifted out soon. For now the charcoal turns to dust and falls through the grates and sits on the bottom of the smoker. That may sound like a lot of complaints to some people, but for the price thats what you can expect. I took my time putting it together all by myself (40 something yr old woman), generously brushed all the inside with veggie oil, did a low and slow charocoal seasoning (180-200 degrees for about four hours then let it die out). Two days later i smoked a 15lb turkey. Put an aluminum pan of water under it to keep it moist and to catch the drippings. The very next day I did the same thing with an 11lb ham. Lemme tell ya folks, keep your eye on the temp (225-250), keep the meat moist and take your time and you will have the best main course ever. Yes you will need more wood/charcoal than a more expensive smoker because so much heat and smoke escape. But for the beginner/average smoker/griller that is on a budget I would recommend this one to anyone. You can put a ton of food on this baby! Some have complained about rust after the first use. All i can say is if you season it well and don't start a rip roaring fire in it you shouldn't have problem with rust for a while. I have three different types of grills for different types of cooking i like to do, but my first smoker. This one is by far the most fun! Buy it, treat it with love and enjoy! HAPPY SMOKING!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought this about 3 weeks ago and have grilled on it 3 times, each time for an extended period, about 6 hours each. The second time, I noticed that the bottom grate was warping and the 3rd time it is getting worse. I don't believe it can handle a lot more heat/grilling. The top is getting rusty (I'm in Texas and it hasn't rained since I bought the grill the rust is outside on the top) so I keep spraying it with a machine oil to prevent this. It is only happening on one side, closest to where the smoke box is but on the main grill. Overall, I spent a lot less than it cost online at other places so I can't complain. It is doing what it is supposed to do and I'm satisfied with it. It has a huge grill space and I can probably fit 2 turkeys or 4 racks of ribs (flat) on there if I wanted to. Oh, I wish the top was a tiny bit higher too. When I try to do beer can chicken, the top sometimes touches the bird (everything IS bigger in Texas- chickens too I guess). They come out fine though so it's not too big of a deal. I would recommend this grill for a starter grill. It only took me 2 hours to put together (female, 50 and I took my time) and was no problem except when I was trying to hold the smoker box and screw in the screws (I used a chair to hold it eventually). Good enough for my purposes and beats spending $300 or more.

Great grill, I can cook everything all at once now instead of having to waste charcoal on three grills at a time, or wait until some of my food gets done before i can put more on the grill. I love this grill.

For the money it's an ok grill. not heavy steel but what I expected. I like the grills and the charcoal option in the lg section. Have used it as a grill and a wood smoker. Easy to maintain a constant temp although I had to install another temp gauge as the one it came with only says cool, ideal or hot. The one I installed has degree indicators. A must for smoking at a slow rate. All in all it serves the purpose I required at a reasonable price.

Great grill/smoker

My son in law bought one of these a year ago and we have been using it for family cookouts almost non-stop. This is the neatest invention since sliced bread. It cooks and smokes to perfection. The versatility is limitless. We use both charcoal and hardwoods and have had excellent results with both. Easy to put together, easy to transport around, cooks everything we've thrown at it, well designed and built. Only prob we've had with it so far is the bracket holding/supporting the firebox to the cooking barrel could be a little heftier (which I fabricated a stronger brace). The price ain't bad either. I'm purchasing one as soon as our store gets some in so that we'll have two units going at same time to accomodate the entire clan.

Good buy, despite some shipping damage...

This is a good grill/smoker, but the one I got had received some damage (one cross piece on the grill had been bent a bit out of shape, and the shelf that mounts on the front of the smoker had similar damage -- apparently something fairly heavy had fallen on the carton. Neither caused any problem with putting the grill together or its performance. There were a couple of bolts missing as well, but readily obtained at the hardware store. Given the price/value, these issues were minor, and I'm pleased with the product and its performance.

I am very pleased with this grill. Only noted a couple minor problems since I have used this one. No charcoal catch pan so you have to scoop out the ashes after it cools down. I lost one of the bolts that holds the upper rack on the lid. That was probably my fault, but is fixable. I would still recommend this grill to everyone. It can handle small meals and very big meals with no problems. My father-in-law got one a couple of years ago and I had to get one too. I had to wait two years, but I got my grill and look forward to cooking many meals for my family with it.

I bought this smoker to cook at a family reunion and let me just tell you, This smoker did AMAZING!!! I was lucky that i did not have to put it together as i bought the display model. So i can not say anything about how it goes together. But i did notice a pretty nice space from the fire box and the actual smoker barrell. So i left the store and went to a hardware store and bought a tube of fireplace epoxy and went around the entire fire box and bonded it to the smoke barrel. We arrived at the location for the reunion thursday night and Friday morning i poored half a bag of charcoil into the fire box and burned off all the paint and oil from the firebox. Saturday morning i lit a fire and for 5 1/2 hours of smokeing i used half a bag of charcoil (to start the fire) and half a bag of mesquite wood. This pit held the heat, and smoke AMAZINGLY! For the $$$ this is a VERY nice smoker!! I cooked 4 racks of ribs, 4 onions, and 20lbs of smoked sausage at the same time. Plenty of cook area and great very easy to control thhe heat, smoke, and cook levels. VERY IMPRESSED!!

Exactly what I wanted, purchased this for my fiancee and he loves this grill! its very nice and sturdy lots of room for cooking :) Only thing to remember is you do need a second person to help with building it and need to follow seasoning instructions from manual as not to ruin the paint. Otherwise very happy with this purchase :)

The smoker is not high-end, the side fire box is a little uneven, but overall it is a good value for the price. My husband is new to smoking and wanted something basic until he was proficient at it. I think this will do the trick just fine.

This is an Outstanding Item, great price and plenty large for entertaining friends and family! HOWEVER one complaint, the "Cheesy-Cheap" temperature gauge! What's with the "warm-ideal-hot" You should go back to the gauge that actually shows the temperature within the unit, like your older models! I purchased a "proper one" and installed. All good now!!!!

I purchased this for my husband for Father's Day and he loves it!!! It heats up quickly and cooks food to perfection. The side grill can be used for cooking small amounts of food while the grill part can cook quite a lot of food. We are very pleased with this product and recommend it to anyone that wants a good smoker grill.

The grill is everything I expected when I got it home. The perfect 4th of July grill. The value is yet to be determine as the longevity of the grill will conclude that fact. It does seem to be very durable. The amount of space for a back yard grill is incredible. Very Happy indeed.
