Panasonic 46" Class Viera 1080p Plasma HDTV, TC-P46U1

The full-HD Panasonic Viera TC-P46U1 is ideal for sports and movies because 600Hz subfield drive technology presents clear, focused images during fast-moving scenes. Viera Link lets you control all compatible devices via a single remote with helpful on-screen menus. Viera Image Viewer provides a better way to share your digital images with family and friends. Additional highlights include a built-in digital tuner and three HDMI inputs. Note: You must have a source of HD programming in order to take full advantage of an HDTV. Otherwise, the picture quality of an HDTV without an HD source may not be much better than that of a standard-definition TV. Please contact your local cable or satellite TV provider for details on how to upgrade to HD programming.

I can't say enough about what a great tv this is. First of all the I researched the whole lcd vs plasma thing for months. I went to every store that carried them. I kept noticing how much better the plasma picture was over the lcd's. Its much more lifelike. I took my wife with me to Best Buy to look at them a week before. She is not impressed by electronics at all and even she could pick out the picture difference immediately. Its like looking through a window with the plasmas. Don't worry about the picture burn in either, although it's not listed this tv comes with an anti burn in setting. Oh I almost forgot the best part the price. I picked mine up for 688.00. So if you've been on the fence for a new tv, run don't walk to wally world and scoop one of these up before they are all gone ( discontinued 2009 model) . You'll love it.

we just bought this t.v the other day after shopping around.we went to our local best buy which they had a simular t.v for around the same price but...it wouldnt be here for 3 wks.and who wants to pay for a t.v u wont get for 3 wks?and it also wasnt a 1080p .so we got online and a walmart about a half hr away had one for cheaper than it was listed on here.which is always good.we got it home and set it up and its absolutly amazing!its a 46'' plasma.i would pick a plasma over a lcd anyday.b.c they can handle alot of movement.if u have kids or animals like us that run arond the house.a plasma is the way to go.the picture is clear, the sound is wonderful.even at volume 15 it will run u out of the room.lol.we haven't even hooked up the surround sound yet.we also play alot of video games which is great with this t.v b.c its a 1080p.which means the picture is really, really clear.so for the price and the over all performance i give it a 10!!!so if there's one in a town near u,drive there and get it.its totally worth it :)

Picked this up in store for a surprising discount to $698, even with a sign saying $788. Heck, $788 was going to be a good deal.
Picture on this Plasma looks wonderful. Very easy to setup.
Remote is very basic and only controls the TV. And there are no extra features like Internet connectivity. But in all reality, they aren't important. The picture is great. It sounds great and it was easy to setup. Plasmas are going away, and I felt lucky to pick one up, especially at this price.

I purchased this tv at my local walmart it was on sale for $498. Yes I said $498. I was shocked because the associate told us it was 788. It is a good tv. I don't have HD TV yet but it plays pretty nice. I have a Vizio 37 LCD and I think it plays a little better. My cousin has the same TV but he has HD and his plays much beter than ours. So I think once I get HD TV it will be great.

Bought this for the great price ($688) with an advertised $59 for 2 yr warranty on box. When I checked out was informed warranty quoted was wrong, should have been $120 for plasma tv. OK, let that slide. Got home hooked up and was not knocked out by HD definition at all. Everything very dark, even for plasma. Can't bring out detail after hours of tinkering. Does not look 1080i or even 720P. More like between 480 and 720p. Colors very vibrant and natural, no judder or blur BUT I felt everything was standard def again compared to my Philips LCD. Sound was distorted with moderate volume, remote control was impossible to work without hitting wrong buttons. Not what I expected from previous experience with Panasonic. A good 46" 1080p plasma is not going to sell for $700, caveat emptor, TANSTAAFL, etc. I am going to take this one back.

I have been looking for another tv for the living room. I already have several LCD's. I was wanting a 46 inch for the living room. I was at Wal Mart shopping and stumbled onto this one. It blew me away the picture on the Panasonic compared to the others around it. Yes it is Plasma and not LCD but for those of you who are wondering, Plasma really does have a better picture in my opinion. There is a 100.000 hour life to this product, which is plenty for me. The picture is clear as a bell and if you do not have a bunch of HD programming, The plasma's definitely look better than an LCD when it comes to standard definition viewing. The sound is surprising, plenty good enough even for movie night with the family. I am very pleased with this product and am really glad I stumbled onto it.

Exceeds Expectations, 01/06/2010

Even with plummeting electronics prices, this set is a remarkable value. With blu-ray and HD from satellite, the colors, depth, sharpness and clarity are first-rate. Audio is tinny, but hooked to amp with surround it's even better than watching movies on most theater screens these days. I usually second-guess myself on purchases like this but think this plasma unit beats out any of the higher-priced LCDs I've seen. My only complaint, really, is lack of a an output of any kind for a headphone and private listening.

I Bought this one for our bedroom, I was reluctant about plasma but I wanted something with fast refresh rate...600hz will do....LCD's gets way to expensive if you go over 120hz.... After hooking it to a blue ray with the hdmi cable ...I was amazed with the nice picture.....I love the way even simples dvd look there....I compare it with our other 1080p Lcd we had on the den.....I prefer this Plasma....buy it ...would not regret.....

Wonderful picture!, 01/01/2010

This TV is definately one of the best bang for the buck TV's on the market. I hesitated for a week and read review after review because I was unsure about a cheap Plasma TV. I finally brought it home and love it. The picture is perfect. The motion is smooth and fluid. HD football games are a blast to watch. You want some specs? 1080P. 46 inch. 600 htz. over 900 motion lines of resolution. The specs on a typical LCD at this price would be 42 inch, 60 htz, 400 motion lines. Some say the plasmas are too dark. The first day at home it will seem darker than an LCD would. The Plasmas need 100 hours of break-in. Be really careful not to let a new plasma screen sit still or paused for the 1st week. The plasma cells need some time to harden. After a good 100 hour break in the tv is still susceptible to burn in, but it would take a few months of leaving your game paused for hours to do any permanent damage. Burn-in just doesn't happen any more unless you try to get burn-in. My TV has no image retention(ir) what so ever. Even if I leave my direct TV menu up for 10 minutes and then go to a black screen I have no IR whatsoever. This is definately one of the lightest Plasmas on the market(64lbs with no stand) so it will hang just as easily as an LCD. Some 46 inch LCD's actually weigh more than this. The sound out of the TV is wonderful. The highs are crisp and clear. There is no room filling bass, but what do you expect. Most people purchasing this TV will be hooking it up to a sound system anyways. The screen has a little reflection in it, but no worse than a good CRT TV. If you want your TV next to a 6ft high bay window than go for an LCD and cross your fingers. I have an open floor plan(living room, kitchen, dining room) with 3 windows and a patio door letting the sunshine in and the Tv is still really watchable and I haven't turned the contrast up over 65 yet! The only other down fall of the TV for me is it does not have a VGA input. My 1 year old laptop has no HDMI out so I will be buying a NET TOP computer to use for my home theatre($200 with mouse and keyboard that will do anything a laptop will) I love the TV. The moving picture is wwwaaaaayyyy better than a 60 or 120 htz LCD. The screen is plenty bright, but not over bright like a lot of people do with their LCD's. If you are debating then buy it, you will not be dissapointed!

Review 13 for Panasonic 46" Class Viera 1080p Plasma HDTV, TC-P46U1

Great Deal - Very Good in SD, 12/30/2009
By SDforever
Overall Rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

Since my satelite provider wanted my first born and a new 2-year contract in order to upgrade to HD and my wife didn't want to give them our son, this review is solely from an SD user perspective.

In looking for a 46" for our family room, I first purchased an LCD (1080; 120Hz) to replace a 720; 60Hz that was just too grainy. There was noticeable difference in the SD clarity with the 1080, but not enough to justify the upgrade cost in my opinion. Also, the 120Hz made some programs (movies or high-quality series) look like they were in bizarre 3D (the so-called "soap opera effect"). Some people like this...but, I thought it was awful.

Anyway...took the LCD back and came home with this 46" Plasma...couldn't be happier. I have heard horror stories of why plasma is inferior (and it may blow up tomorrow)...but, for now I can tell you that the difference is night and day compared to the LCD 120Hz when viewing in SD. The picture is great (not perfect, but very, very good) and the sound quality is better than through most internal speakers I have heard. Remote and menus are easy to maneuver, and the features are great for a TV in this price range ($698!!!)...complete with a card slot for viewing photos.

Time will only tell on longevity and long-term issues of the plasma, but for now I am very satisfied with the quality in SD....and our 7-year-old didn't have to be offered up to Dish Network for any upgrades, which made his mom happy:)

I recently bought this tv to replace the 37" panny plasma I had for 4 years I do a lot of research on Tv's and when this one went on sale for $698 I could not pass it up. Walmarts price was anywhere from $300 to $600 cheaper than anyone elese. The only problem was they were sold out at one Walmart so I had to go across town to the other and boy was it worth it. I got a display model that had been used for displaying only blue ray discs and I payed only $559 for it WOW!!! is all I can say. This t.v. is awesome I have friends who have purchased a Samsung high end lcd who I guarentee this picture looks just as good if not better because of the vibrant colors the samsung can't touch.. Buy this T.V. you wont be dissappinted. You will also have money left over for a blue ray player!!!

INCREDIBLE TV AT AN INCREDIBLE PRICE!, 12/21/2009
By Chiefsfan4Life
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

I researched for about a month when it came time to get a new tv. I was really torn between LCD and Plasma, but after much research I decided that plasma was the way to go. I already own a 32" Sharp LCD, and while the picture quality is good, I really wanted to make sure my next tv was a high quality product. Most of my research pointed in the direction of Panasonic when it comes to plasma, and let me assure you that no one does it like Panasonic. Everything about this tv is amazing: picture quality is incredible, even during fast moving scenes in movies and sports, sound is great, design of tv is very appealing and will go with any decoration scheme in any room, and the price is hundreds below any other place. The picture quality is amazing even during the day when the room is well lit, which was one of my concerns with going with plasma, and at night the picture quality will blow you away. This is an unbelieveable value at an unbelieveable price, which is probably why I had some much trouble finding it in stock in Wal-Marts close to me. I hung this above my fireplace and could not be any happier and I strongly encourage you to go out and get one while you can!

For the last two months I have been reviewing TVs and I wanted to get a TV that I would love to watch..I finally found it with this Panasonic plasma. Fist I bought an LG LCD and tried it for a week and said to myself this is not a great set...so I took it back and got my money back.. Then back to the drawing board and then I was shopping at Walmart and saw an associate putting a new lower price on this 46 inch Panasonic. Well I bought it and could not believe that a got this TV for only $698!!!It amazes me every time I turn the set on. The picture is crystal clear, the sound is excellent and no need for any external sound of any kind. You could just tell the quality of the set right out of the box. The stand itself is made with quality and it is very sturdy and secure.. Other big screens seem to have weak wobbly stands. Buy this TV and you will be extremely satisfied as I am.. Plasama is the way to go and Walmart is the place to buy it..

Love My Plasma, 12/17/2009
By Sewinglover, Nancy, KY
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

Love this Plasma tv. We have had a 50 inch Plasma for about 3 years as our main tv. TV in the bedroom went bad so we decided to buy another. We purchased the Philips 42 inch LCD. After one week it went back to Walmart. (Thank goodness for their return policy). We never could get used to the poor picture quality on the LCD, could not watch sports or anything that was fast moving on the screen without it blurring, so we decided to go for another Plasma. The LCD was only 60HZ and this Plasma is 600HZ, I guess this makes a difference when watching sports. We purchased this tv, brought it home, hooked it up and WOW, what a difference between the LCD and this 46 inch Plasma and it only cost 40 dollars more. For the difference in the quality of this tv and the Philips LCD, I would have gladly paid more than 40 dollars extra. We are extremely satisfied now. I don't believe you would regret buying this tv. This must be the reason they are hard to keep in stock at Walmart. We had to drive several miles from our local Walmart to another Walmart to get it. LOVE IT!!!!!!

This Panasonic TC-P46U1 is perfect for a TV upgrade. It is a great buy, normally priced 1099. cant beat Wal-Mart's prices, my wife and I upgraded to this from a 19inch tube TV. The difference was day and night, and the price continues to wow me, I see all the deals out in the holiday paper adds, nothing can compare to this. all the specs are above a value plasma, blu-ray playback is brilliant, crisp, clear contrast. HD gaming is also perfect. the only thing this TV doesn't have is internet. TV menus are easy to use, speakers are mid range, they can be perfect at low volume, but mid volume is to quiet, when turned up they can go. we put this on a low 2' TV stand, although this would have mounted perfectly above our fireplace. I would recommend this TV, although its hard to find in stores it was worth the hour drive to a out of town Wal-Mart.
