Terrible Bike

First off it did not shift and the brakes squeeked. Followed the idea from the other reviews and took it back to the store. After a couple of days I picked it up and the brakes did not squeak but it still did not shift. Decided to do it myself. Took it for another ride and it just did not go. I could not keep up with my wife's "Next" 26 in bike around a pond. It barely got going down a hill without peddling. Tires were split down the middle. Took it back and bought a 26 inch Schwin.

This bike looked great, but after taking it for 1 spin the front shock rubbers popped out. Everything loose and needed to be fixed. Disk brakes were very poor over all. If your looking for a bike don't buy one here, if your looking for a brake-able toy go ahead.

I AM A WALMART ASSEMBLER....I put all these bikes together, and KNOW there price differences and the QUALITY of parts and pricing of the bikes AND BRANDS that Walmart has to offer... The Geneisis 29er is an AMAZING VALUE, it breaches and brings the high end dollars($800 plus) bikes to an affordable price of $200.. BUT REMEMBER your getting a lot more for less but you are not getting all of the $800 of quality..YOU ARE GETTING a quality bike better than any $200 bike!!!! If y our having any problems its due to who put the bike together, remember..... WE ASSEMBLERS put these bikes together for the general public,...A 15 year old bought one today, he will grow, but then my last buyer was 6Ft 6 and 250...the seat, and the feel of the bike must be adjusted for the individual...I need a bigger seat as well.as many bikes offered...as it is with all bikes...the bike is fully adjustable to young and old...NO bike comes from the factory in the box shift perfect....they are within range but need the fine tuning, if your does not work correctly..does not shift smoothly or brake correctly.. then BRING IT BACK!!!!so they can do there job...right. as for the performance of this bike.........THIS BIKE IS the best BANG for the BUCK!!!!!.........IF your a HARDCORE MTN rider. its still a nice value. but may not meet your needs of gearing and other hardcore highend requirements.....BUT that's why these bikes can cost up to $5000 BUCK's.....THIS IS THE biggest BANG FOR THE BUCK BIKE!!! and you can always take it back......but I encourage those who by this bike if you have any troubles to have it fine tuned rather than returned......swapping it out puts you into the same boat....by the way....FINE TUNING is a small adjustment......to correct how its performing,,,,most real bikers know this...but for the many who can't build there own bikes from scratch...take i t back for an adjustment rather than a return.....Thanks for listening. Aladin from Laurel MT...

Review 5 for Genesis 29" Men's Mountain Bike
Awesome 29er

I received this bike for fathers day. It rides high compared to the 26 inch bikes. I added a softer seat plus a seat post shock. It now rides like a Hummer H2. Love the bronze color. Only one thing I found is the chain sometimes rubes the shifter cage. I've adjusted the cable tension and it helped a little. Im sure a little more tweaking will do the trick. The front disc brake is fair but the V brake on the rear has a better bite. Im 5' 8" and it fits fine and I wear size 11 shoe and they have never rubbed the front tire while riding it. This bike also has more ground clearance than my daughters 26in. Diamondback mountain bike.

well i bought this bike and they gave me a shipping window and it came the first day so good job on that. and the firts day i had it i was riding in the mountians and there was a log that i was going to go over so my front tire hits it and the log was rotten so my front tire planted and i flipped over the handle bars, the seat hit me in the back of the head and my bike continued to flip and roll all the way down the hill so i got to the bottom and my bike was fine not a scratch or dent, really good bike for anybody.

Review 8 for Genesis 29" Men's Mountain Bike
Great bike for the price, very versatile.

This is a lot of bike for the price. The 700c wheels (same as road bikes and hybrids) make it good both on road and off. It comes with a very high quality set of mountain biking tires. Be aware though that the front chain rings are 28/38/48 (the number of teeth on the cogs), which are sized for the road. If you are using it for true mountain biking, they usually have 22/32/42, making it geared lower and climb hills easier. It will be a lot harder to find a 1:1 gear ratio on this bike for climbing steep inclines, but not impossible.
The bike rolls really fast on the street with the tall gearing and large diameter wheels, even with the 2.25 mountain bike tires. The frame quality appears to be on par with my $1,000 mountain bike. The components are really nice for the price level. The shifters work well. The brakes stop well, and the front disc is a nice touch at this price point. The handgrips are thick and soft.
I have two complaints about the bike. The first is that the seat post is too short, because I'm only 5'10" and even at the absolute highest setting found it to be about 2-3 inches too short, and had to order a new one for $20 dollars. The bike appears to be sized for adolescents, but fits me very well with the new seatpost. I can't imagine anyone finding it comfortable if they're over 5'8" unless they have less than a 30 inch inseam.
The second is the front suspension is practically worthless. It is an extremely heavy fork and it takes a LOT of force to make it budge. It is not a real mountain bike fork. They could have put a standard fork on it, saved 5 pounds, and probably 20 dollars (and used it to add a longer seatpost). Many real mountain bikers are now riding these 29ersr with no suspension anyway.
All in all, the bike is definitely worth the money. I would confidently use it on trails, although I will be using it on the street. I will be taking the mountain bike tires off, replacing them with hybrid road tires, and using them as spares for my offroad bike, because theyr'e such high quality, and I don't want to waste that good tread on the road. This bike will become my neighborhood/toddler trailer bike. I can't wait to see how fast it is with road tires.

Review 9 for Genesis 29" Men's Mountain Bike
Bought - tried - returned

First bike had a number of annoying squeaks. Turns out the wheels were not true. Also the dust caps on the front forks were off. Returned the bike for another and looked it over carefully in the store. Brought it home and after one ride the dust caps were off the front forks and exposed the grease to the elements. The gears did not work properly and after a number of adjustments still did not work properly. The tire tubes are non-standard and did not fit a bike pump without some finagling. Good luck on finding tubes for this bike - even Walmart doesn't carry them! All in all the quality is not there ... in the long run I see lots of problems with this bike so returned it.

The bike is a perfect size for me, was disapointed as the wheels were not straight but being I've worked on bikes i trued them myself as to sending it back. The only reason I ordered it was for the color as the one in the store is all white. All in all I'm happy with it, yes it has inexspenive parts but does ride very well.

This bike if a good bike for getting you back and forth on side walks and roads. If you plan on doing any "mountain biking" it would be a bad idea to purchase this bike. It does not hold up to rocky terrain very well. I took my bike in twice in one month, once because they forgot to put grease in the bearing and a second time because the forks broke, and eventually ended up buying a higher quality bike.

I AM IMPRESSED!

I ordered this bike and had it shipped to home. Assembly was straight forward. I did not read the instructions and had no problem putting it together. Had to tweak the front derailleur but that was no problem. I have had the bike for two days and my legs are like rubber from peddling it around on some park trails. I definitely need to get into shape and this bike will help as much as anything. I have been trying to find out the country of manufacture, not sure yet, but I had been looking at Specialized and Trek bikes and they are all made in China and cost three/four times as much. I think this 29er is a fantastic deal. Seems very sturdy for my weight of 230 pounds. The Walmart buyer that picked this bike for consumers did a great job.

Nice bike! Bought from store assembled. Got it home and went over everything to ensure tightness. Checked tire pressure - added some air and went off. What a ride! I am 6'2" 300 lbs with many knee surgeries. Bike felt wonderful and with 21 speeds to choose from - not a problem going anywhere. Cool color/graphics, white with black and red neon graphics. Brakes are spot on. I see many miles ahead! A must buy. First time I've seen a 29" bike in a department store! Just amazing!

Review 14 for Genesis 29" Men's Mountain Bike
It's okay

I bought this bike as a low-end entry level bike to try out trail riding before upgrading to something more expensive. Overall, it's very attractive with the wide, knobby tires and black rims (especially when the goofy stickers are removed) and does a good job for basic point to point travel, but it isn't really designed to hold up under the rigors of actual off road mountain biking. Parts that would typically be aluminum or steel on other bikes are plastic on this bike (pedals, shift levers, brake handles, sprocket guard). Go down once, or miss a turn and go into the trees and you might end up with broken components. Most disappointing though, is the front fork suspension. After riding once or twice off road, the suspension has all but stopped working.
So beware if you intend on buying this mountain bike for actual mountain biking use- it may not last you as long as you hope.

First: Walmart offered "free ship to home" and I recieved my bike in 4 days. Packaging was spectacular and I had NO damage issues. Second: This bike was EASY to assemble (with a slight exception with one break line) but went together with NO problems. Third: The parts that were pre-factory assembled, were done so with extraordinary care. I couldn't even tighten ANY bolts, as they were already as tight as possible!! Fourth: This bike is a MONSTER, and rides like a DREAM. I'm a big guy and this bike fits me PERFECT. Gearing is tight and shifting is smooth as silk. I used to have a $800 Giant, and this bike performs EVERY bit as well (a tad heavier, but this is a CAVEMAN'S bike so OH WELL). Great Buy!!

When i got this Bike the first time i had some problems. The back brakes were not working well so i hade someone take a look at it and they were put on wrong. And the Front brakes were all wrong. The brake itself was put on wrong and caused it to fail and not work right. That was the only thing wrong with it. Everything else’s was just fine. And i mean it was like riding on a cloud i loved it besides the breaks it was all vary good. But wean you by it from the store make sure it is put together right. I’m getting a new one by site to store about 5/17/11 or 5/23/11 and wean I get the new one I will make a new review.
