Unfortunately, this cast iron double dutch oven box arrived at the store in terrible condition. The box was not within another box packed with paper around like everything else we order site-to-store. The box the dutch oven was in looked like it was in a war. So the girl opened it for us and one of the cast iron handles was broken in three pieces. She apologized and credited our account. We ordered a different Lodge Dutch Oven and this one came in perfect condition with a larger outer box that had a lot of paper surrounding it to cushion the inner box during shipping. The rating I gave it does not reflect the dutch oven itself--it's on the packaging! It is a gift, so I'm sure they will like this one. They specifically wanted cast iron and the new one we choose was even less expensive than the double dutch oven and it is in perfect condition. We would recommend this product if the packaging would have been adequate and the handle wouldn't have been broken in three pieces. It's very sturdy and heavy.

Review 2 for Lodge Logic Cast Iron 5 Quart Double Dutch Oven
I bought this for my daughter who is going away to college. What a great concept that the lid is another pan! I also like that she is getting her iron just from cooking in these pans. The only drawback to cast iron (other than the weight) is it will rust if she forgets to oil them.

Review 3 for Lodge Logic Cast Iron 5 Quart Double Dutch Oven
I have only owned cast iron pans and prefer them over any other. Wanted a Dutch Oven for baking bread and cooking just about anything else. This pot has a lid that can be used as a frying pan which increases the utility dramatically. It comes pre-seasoned, but everyone STRONGLY suggests seasoning it before using as I have done. If you have never used cast iron cookware, you are missing out. They are INDESTRUCTIBLE! You can learn anything you need to know on the internet for recipes for stews, roasts, breads and just about anything you can conceive of wanting to cook in this pot.

I LOVE IT

I love the perfect size - not too big. I especially like to cook brown rice in the dutch oven it comes out beautifully.I use the 'top' a lot as a 10-11 inch skillet/ fry pan. If I need something bigger I also bought the 15" skillet which I also love. Lodge makes beautiful cast iron pans. Good for you, cooks food beautifully, excellent value, extremely durable. It heats up fast...boils water faster...and holds heat in for a LONG time after cooking.
It took a few days to become more non-stick. Now I just use a small amount of oil and food does not stick. You can use metal utensils. It's great for obtaining a nice sear. Everything cooks beautifully! Easy to clean. I also read in How to Cook Everything by Mark Bittman that he recommends cast iron. It's the best because it cooks food so beautifully without any potentially toxic non-stick coatings. Cast iron also contains...Iron! So it's kind of nutritious! If you leave water on the pan it will rust even within a few hours. You just wash it off. If it's just a little it comes off easily. You have to wash it right away and rub on a little oil. Right now I'm using a paper towel. I am going to try a pump that will spray oil, to make that step even faster.

Review 8 for Lodge Logic Cast Iron 5 Quart Double Dutch Oven
The quality is very good and it was a piece of cake to season . The pulled pork turned out much better than when I do it in a slow cooker. The" ship to store" took a long time, but the service at the pick-up desk was real good. I 'm going to try baking bread next.

Review 9 for Lodge Logic Cast Iron 5 Quart Double Dutch Oven
I had never had a cast iron pan before but found a no-knead bread recipe that needed a pan that could take a temp of 450 in the oven and recommended a cast iron pan.
I was always worried that I wouldn't know how to pre-treat and/or wash the pan, afraid I would end up with a rusty bucket.
How wrong I was. Lodge cast iron cookware comes pre-treated and ready to go. Lots of info is included on its care and storage. I chose this particular item for its versatility. The top is also a frying pan.
Now I am making yummy, crusty bread.
And the best part? Lodge items are MADE IN AMERICA.

I have had this dutch for a month or so and have used it every weekend since. I love it and now that I have a wood cook stove and couldn't have a better pot. The extra lid as a pan is great as well it made some pretty great pancakes on the wood stove. I will be adding to my Lodge collection from Wal-Mart, I shop on line and pick up in the store. The pre season gives me ahead start. You will still need to add to it but it makes it easier for sure. I like buying USA made and Lodge makes a great product.

I bought this as a Christmas present for my husband who has just discovered he likes cast iron. We camp a lot and this pan will allow us to have two pans in one and not have to worry about burning them. We also use a wood stove in our living room that provides enough heat to use this pot for soups and stews. This pot is wonderful in so many ways. I only had one small complaint...the way it is packed there was no way to hide the noise of cast iron clanging on cast iron. I had it shipped and my husband knew what it was before I even got it into the house. Oh well...It was a good excuse to have Christmas early.

Review 19 for Lodge Logic Cast Iron 5 Quart Double Dutch Oven
I knew what I wanted before I bought it so it suits me perfectly. The seasoning on it was perfect, but of course I applied my own before using it. It's the perfect tool for baking hearth bread without a stone. I've cooked in the lid a few times, nothing, so far, has managed to stick.
The only piece of Lodge I still need is their Hibachi grill....
Thanks Lodge!
