Excellent Product
12/26/2009
I will be picking up this computer today. This will be my third eMachines PC purchase in the last six years, and I haven't been disappointed with any. All in fact are still being used. The first I gave to my youngest sister when she got out of Air Force basic, the second will be sent to a buddy that is in desperate need of a working system.
My experience with computers goes back to the early 80's, and until I got my first eMachines out of desperation (my PC fried competely during a lightning strike) I built my own machines. While you aren't getting the top of the line brand named parts, I have only once had to replace a factory part, a power supply after almost three years of use, and I regularly talk up the brand to naysayers who spend thousands on their PCs that perform marginally better than mine.
These PCs come with multiple expansion slots, so you can add a modem/fax, more memory, additional optical and HD drives, even more USB slots. For soebody with relativelty little experience with PCs, you can't go wrong with an eMachines on value, performance, and reliability - not to mention expandability if you need to add to it.

I just purchased this computer after reading all the reviews from other owners, and I gotta say that I have been on here for 20 minutes now, and there isnt enough websites to go to fast enough..Before with my Hp, It would take 2 minutes to load up walmart and surf there wbsite and now i'm blazing threw it..Way Fast..I am not a comp guru but I knew i needed a faster processor and more memory to handle all the music and photos I have, and this seems to have more than enough speed to handle my needs...All I need to figure out is how to get all that from old computer to new computer without transferring from a memory stick to my hard drive??? I would def tell all that for the money its a great deal..Then all you have to do is upgrade to a acer full hd monitor which walmart also sells for $138 for a 20'' online..Too bad the stores dont sell it cause shopping online at walmart really is difficult to get what you think your getting..Speakers are ok.mouse is ok and keyboard ok also, only problem i had was rebooting the cable modem, cause i wasnt getting a connection at first..Windows 7...just different...not bad..just different than xp..satified so far..

Great Computer BUT DVD Burner Needs Work
11/06/2009
Owned for a week now and everything is going well except when I went to burn the recovery back-up and driver dvds it failed on me 15 times! I had brand new dvd's and it pretty much wiped me out of every last one I had. I restarted the computer several times but each time it failed. It took me over 2 days and a lot of "hope" to burn a single dvd. Kinda dissapointed for a very new computer.

Happily Shocked
02/01/2010
I am on my computer all day every day. I have even done hardware improvements for myself and others. I was anti eMachine. I needed a new unit, did tons of pricing, research, and even considered building one from scratch. After all of that, I stumbled over this unit at the Walmart site and was intrigued, so I read all of the reviews, went to other review sites, and the eMachine website as well. I bought it, and I am shockingly surprised and happy! This thing is screaming fast. Quick start up, simple to set up, etc.
I've put it through it's paces and have yet to bog it down. The other reviews have mentioned that the DVD door and tray is a bit light-weight, and that is true, just don't ram it or slam on it, and it should be just fine. The key board is quiet and functional but you'll probably want to upgrade the mouse post haste. I went with a Logitech "Wave" cordless keyboard and mouse combo, which was virtually just plug and play. So far this CPU has recognized all of my peripherals with no issues at all.
All and all, this is a great machine......and there is no way you can beat the price!
I am recommending this unit to all my friends without any hesitation.

Great Computer!!!!
01/25/2010
Just bought this computer. I wasn't sure if I was going to get a good product or bad product because it had mixed reviews. Well, I didn't get a good product, I got an amazing product. This computer is awesome, works very well. It is super fast not just for internet, but also gaming. My wife says it runs super quick with world of warcraft and is very happy about it. It is very quiet and easy to use, love windows 7, had vista previously and it was lame. This is a great buy, 6 gigs of RAM/Memory will cost you at least $200 or more by itself. I would've paid up to $600 for this computer and I would still be happy. Great bargain and no problem at all.

Fast now made Faster!
12/23/2009
This Emachine is a Super Deal! Storage, memory, graphics speed, it has it all (except a monitor). I played around with Windows 7 for a day or so- its pretty and works well. It comes packaged with Norton Anti-virus Protection, which I ignored every time it popped up. And of course you get the prepackaged programs offering you this or that for a buck. So annoying! I then slipped in a 9.10 Ubuntu CD (64-bit) and removed Windows 7 AND that whimpering anti-virus software. Ubuntu recognized and configured all devices beautifully. You don't need virus protection in Ubuntu-Land... what I DO need is a seat belt. This machine is fast!

Not bad, misleading
12/16/2009
I do commend them for having the hard drive and ramm specs, both items are very low cost today however. What's misleading in the current PC market is that they are overpriced. This processor isn't new by any means, but some are even older. Not a bad machine, hopefully Emachines, now an Acer company, has put better boards and power supplies in their newer units.
Add a decent display and you'll have a $500 to $600 tower. No wireless, no bluetooth, and an integrated video card.
I guess with PC prices the way they are, not too bad.
