Adequate Beginner's Machine

I purchased this machine for my 12 year old granddaughter who just successfully completed her project on it. The negative side: After sewing on it for a total of about 3 hours in 2 days time, the machine started sounding rough. We took the time to clean and oil it which eliminated the problem. The recommendations for oiling the machine is quite a bit more than any machine I've previously owned (5 total). The pictures in the manual showing the oiling points are not good. I finally just oiled any moving part. Oiling also requires that a screw be removed to get inside the machine. No tools or oil were included with the machine. The machine did have a bit of trouble going over a flat felled seam. We were only using light weight cotton. Had to gently "help" the machine over these places or the stitches became very tiny. Now for the positive side: Does a nice job winding a bobbin. And the stitches were very nice right out of the box. After learning to thread the machine, my granddaughter had no trouble at all. This is an adequate machine for a beginner if your budget is small.

I bought this item to teach my 9 year old daughter how to sew as a birthday gift- very cute- she loves it and I've even used it myself. Functions like any other full size sewing machine and had a great price to go with it- very durable as the Site-to-store shippers werent exactly gentle with it! All-in-all great item!

This is a light-weight sewing machine that I bought with the Sauder Sewing and Craft Table as a package deal. It was a good buy. I used the sewing machine, and it is a little loud, but operated correctly. I only gave it 3 stars for durability, because it is mainly plastic, and I don't know how long it will last. My White sewing machine is much heavier, and mostly metal, and has lasted a long time. Threading it around the top of the vertical bar of the needle is a little inconvenient, but not too difficult.

Easy to use, great stitch!!...no trouble with thick fabric like denim pr with delicate fabric as chiffon.
I'm a novice but thanks to this great machine I'm learning faster !!!...
The only thing about it it's that makes a little noise, but for me that's no problem at all....

I am SO GLAD I ordered this machine!!! It arrived 2 days after I placed the order! This is a good quality machine, not a toy or a cheap piece of junk, and the DVD that came with it was very helpful for a beginner like me. I started my first project an hour after pulling this machine out of the box it was shipped in! I've had this machine for several weeks now; I've finished several projects and have recommended this machine to a handful of friends who want to learn how to sew. I purchased this machine for my 12 year old grand niece who is learning to sew this summer. My sister who has been sewing for over 40 years is teaching her.
Out of the box this machine did not work. My sister set it up and could not get the lower stich to work. The tension mechanism was defective. When we called brother they recommended either returning the product or taking it to their local repair center. I returned it to Walmart the same day.
Replaced product with a Brother CE4000 for only $60 more from another vendor, new machine has six times the features and worked just fine.

I am brand new to sewing and what really sold me was the fact I thought there were lots of stitches. There isn't, but you can adjust to make 2 types of stitches different. I still think this is a great machine and it has already paid off in one use. I love it.

This sewing machine was worth every penny. I love it and i agree with others that it is great for beginners. The only issue i've had so far is that the thread keeps getting stuck, but its a quick fix. The DVD is helpful too.Im happy with it!!!!
