If this game were half the game Indigo Prophecy was, I would have been happy. But Heavy Rain is awful. It is stupidly pedantic, there is no action, the interface is horrible, the story is thin and predictable... and did I mention that it is boring? Don't buy this game. I expected better from the makers of Indigo Prophecy.

Review 2 for Heavy Rain (PS3)
Possibly the best game experience I've ever had,

In short--the best graphics I have ever seen bar-none (from a technical standpoint, the work that went into it is astounding), the most gripping story I've ever experienced (key word--there have been better movies but you don't control them and there aren't multiple outcomes), and the best musical score ever for a videogame. It's one of those games that makes you glad you own a PS3.
The story surrounds 4 different people--a father, an old-school detective (favorite char), an insomniac (almost favorite char--she rocks), and an FBI agent. While it starts off slow (you wake up, take a shower, drink orange juice, etc.), everything is deliberate and sets up a previously unmatched amount of genuine understanding of the characters and their motivations. This is a mature game and deservedly so--it's for people 18 and up. Rarely has a game successfully made me feel the emotions of the characters, let alone for a straight gripping 12ish hours of play. Coupled with the insane amount of replayability due to every choice/outcome subtly affecting the entire rest of the game, you have a must-have game.
Keep in mind it won't be for everyone. Character control takes a strange step back to Resident Evil era (due to lack of direct camera control for cinematic effect) and interaction is mostly performed with gestures of the right analog stick. Action sequences appear a-la God of War finishing moves in what have been coined "Quick Time Events". This may sound limiting, but you truly have to experience a fistfight or a criminal chase to understand how perfect this scheme fits the gameplay style. Suffice to say--if you're into a great interactive experience, this is as good as you can do.
Do yourself a favor--if you're over 18 and own a PS3, there's no reason you shouldn't own this game.

This game is....different. If anything, it's more an interactive movie than a game. The controls are hard to explain. There is no mapping to each button, "X" isn't jump, "O" isn't melee etc. The controls are based off of the world around your character. for example: your in the kitchen. "X" will be shown above the fruit bowl, (meaning you can grab a fruit by pressing that button), and arrow to the right will be above the chair (meaning by moving the analog stick to the right your character will sit in the char), and so on. Sounds confusing, and it does take some getting used to. However once you do get used to it, it almost seems like instinct.
The game starts out semi slow. The beginning works as both an extended tutorial (since the getting a handle on the controls takes time), and a prologue of character development. Once the story gets going, it never stops. It has twists I wasn't expecting, story elements that were amazing, and the characterization is outstanding. No other game comes close. and it only gets better when you realize every choice you make bends the events that follow. There are 4 main characters, and depending on your choices any or all of them may die. If they do, the story continues on without them. It's very interesting
The game does have a slow start, and the visuals range from astounding to terrible, but you will get so wrapped up in the story it won't matter. Definately one of the better games in a long time.
P.S. this game is rated M for Mature for very good reasons.

Let me begin by saying that this game is a welcome addition to the video game industry. In an industry getting drowned by endless shooters and whackers, H.R. (Heavy Rain) is such a soothing relief. The gameplay alone is very different as a mere button press will result in different angles and plot in the game. And such actions are reflections of your decision making. Either you let the game control you or you control the game yourself. I let myself dictate the story with my decisions and actions and I failed miserably.
After the game, I was so sucked into the outcome that it made me think what could be the possible bad decisions I made that reflected the outcome of my first playthrough. Like I said, I failed the first time. I have never felt so sorry for my actions in a video game (or shall I say, a mini-movie) until this one. Not even Bioshock 1 and 2 can come close to it. Sadly, it could be a showing of my real-life subconscious that dictated me throughout the whole game. And it failed me. Honestly, it made me think about my own life as well. Could I be already doing something that may fail me in the future? I hope I am not. But then, I am just human.
In terms of mechanics, it takes a while getting used to it and it may not be easy as you think it is (well, I played the hardest level though) as you should think on your feet when playing this game. There are no turning back when making decisions. You press a button in a big scene, it's locked in. Like in real life. When something's done, it is done. And judging by the number of trophies I got (I got only about 20 my first playthrough), I know there is more to this game. And the very ending was so disturbing. Made me jump out of my seat (I didn't know it has a horror part lol). I'll definitely replay this game over and over again.
Graphics-wise, H.R. will not take the crown this year. Yes, it looks good over-all but screen tearing and framerate lags are just unbearable. Yes, my TV can only output to 1080i but I also tried running the game at strictly 720p and it didn't do anything at all. Hope Sony/Quantic will do something about it. There were also some nagging issues at the beginning of the game wherein the screen just goes black and the sound of the rainfall becomes so loud and glitchy. This happened specifically where the FBI agent (don't want to name names...spoils it...) met with the local cop and also the scene where Dr. Mmmm met with patient Mmmm in a psyche session. I had to re-start the game but luckily it didn't brick my PS3 (whew!). Sound is great and pairs well with my surround sound (again, with the exception of the above mentioned glitch/bug).
Worth the money, worth the hype and definitely worth trying for MATURE people out there. I say mature as this game isn't for kids at all. Again, I don't wanna spoil it but just take my word for it.

I wont go into detail with the story with the game, to avoid spoilers. The game is very beautiful visually, to the point where its almost like a interactive movie. In the game itself, like the description says, you play as four people through out the game. A Private eye, a fbi agent, a journalist, and a father of one of the sons taken by the origami killer. Personally all I can really say is try it and you'll love it. I highly recomend it.
