Ideal for navigating, exploring and traveling by foot, vehicle or boat, the Garmin eTrex Legend is one of the smartest (and smallest) GPS units on the market. It features excellent mapping capability with complete built-in road and highway map detail. And, it's compatible with MapSource CD-ROMs for access to an Atlas of worldwide maps. WAAS-enabled. 8 MB of memory. Watch a Flash product demo (With 360° View) .
I have used this GPS for about 3 years now and overall it has been a great GPS. I found that if it said I was on top of something even if the accuracy was 20 feet I was really on top of it.
The cable to load waypoints stopped working on my unit rather quickly but overall that is the only complaint. It took a beating overall and kept working I am only replacing now as with the beating it has taking I think I finally knocked a wire loose.

hands down the best product for the money. Has a lot of cool features: area calculation, geocaching, hunt and fish best times, mark exact spot, and a couple more that i dont really use. Ok, the bad. Get lost satalite reception easily in light cover, it comes with a weird connection to the computer (not usb which i expected), and i dont know how to delete marked locations. But, definatly worth the money.

Tried outdoors alongside another Garmin product - the Etrex wouldn't keep connected to the satellites. When it was connected, it worked very well, but it continually lost connection. Returned and bought a better unit at Wal Mart.

I purchased one of these for both my son and husband and they are very happy with it. My older son uses a similar product on the job in Alaska and advised me to stay simple and make sure that we could download maps. This GPS does everything that's important plus the guys are happy with the battery set-up and fact that it's waterproof.

great bang for the buck

This particular GPS is great for what I use it for--walking in the evenings and using it on canoe trips. I sometimes wish it had a few more bells and whistles on it, or had color, but for what I spent it does what I need it to do. It does occasionally take longer than I would like for it to when trying to track satellites when I first turn it on, but this is something that I can live with.

I have recently bought this product and am using it while hunting. the battery life is excellent and it is easy to use. The only problem i have with it is the cost of the trail maps you can load on it, but they are well worth it if your going up in the hills. Overall i'm satisfied with this gps and look forward to many hiking and hunting trips. Oh yeah, we use it bike riding to see how far and what speed we've been doing.

It's a good starting tool. The PC connection should be upgraded to USB for a more common use. My computer doesn't have an RS232 port. I'll need to purchase an adaptor but that is OK.

I was completely impressed with the Garmin eTrex Legend. My first lock-on took only 72 seconds and has locked in about 10 seconds ever since. It has features I never dreamed of and I especially like the one-handed operation. I can even use it on the highway.

I am a little disappointed in the fact that it doesn't work under tree cover. Maybe other brands don't either but I bought it mostly for hiking/birding and if in the woods it doesn't work, I don't get much use out of it. Maybe a bettre model would work but they are too pricey for me.

This little GPS Unit does exactly what I bought it for. It is sufficently accurate to get me on top of the geocaches I'm hunting that I am usually able to find them. Don't buy this unit if you want to navigate the streets and highays...Buy a car unit for that...This GPSr is the entry level and does simple navigation over ground well. It has good battery life and although the screen is small and its contents sometimes hard to read by someone with 53 year old eyes, it is easy to learn how to use.
