The John Deere Gator HPX Ride-On is the perfect riding vehicle for little farm hands and field workers. We bought the Gator as a present for our son's 3rd birthday. He loves it! It is made very well and was easy to put together. I think the price a little high but it is a John Deere and we are paying for the name. It runs great and moves nicely around our yard and on the dirt driveway. He does sometimes get hung up on the small hill but will learn with time to put it in reverse. We like the 2 seats. We have 2 children and our son will be able to give his sister a ride when she gets older. I do wish it had a seatbelt. Overall we are very happy with our purchase and woud recommend the gator.

My son loves this John Deere Gator. Here are my thoughts on this.
It took about 2 - 2.5 hrs to setup (alot of parts, picture only instructions, some steps had changed from instructions). Keep in mind the battery needs about 18hrs to charge before first use. In my opinion the battery position was done by an engineer who never went home and used this thing. The battery is the one thing that needs to be taken out and put back in on a consistent basis. You have to take a screw out in the front, unsnap the plastic front end, bend down on knees to unhook battery. The metal bar that was made to hold battery was a waste of time since you can never seem to clip battery on and get everything to fit just right. I just leave the metal bar off.
If I were to buy today I might have tried to find a model with the seat belts for my younger daughter, but overall my son likes it. Yes the tires spin sometimes when grass is wet or going up a hill, but I don't think it is excessive or unusual compared to other models. The other models have plastic tires as well. It is not like one mfg has more aggressive tires than another.

My grandchildren love it. At 3 & 6 they act like adults. Let me drive, NO let me drive, You drive, don't hit the tree, lets go that way. Its hilarious. I love their reactions. The only down side is the problem of getting to the battery to charge it. I think I'll run a wire to the outside of the shell so I can let them have the responsibility of plugging it in to charge. If I could just get the connection under the gas cap?

We bought this ride for our grandson's third birthday tw weeks ago, and I can't say enough good about it. First, it handles really well. After the second day, he was able to drive it into the garage and park it. There is also a setting that controls the speed. We have his set a little slower for now. He loves to put his golf clubs and balls in the back and haul them around. Then, the back unlatches so he can dump everything out. We highly recommend this product. My only concern is we lost the receipt, so I am hoping that we don't have any problems.

Bought for my sons 5th birthday..would not hold a charge. We charged the battery for 18 hours, however, when I put it in, the gator ran approximately 30 minutes!
We have since returned to Wal Mart...(no problems or hassels ) and purchased him the Jeep Hurricane by Powerwheels. He loves it! All's well that ends well.

we bought this for Christmas and my sons love it. we live on a farm and i thought it wasn't going to last on all the dirt roads and manure corrals. But it did!!!!!!!! My sons are always helping me transport all the hay and manure around the farm. I think it is a great machine. My sons even ''fix'' the gator with a toy wrench and tools.

My 3 year old daughter really loves riding on the John Deere Gator HPX. On the other hand, my husband did not care for how the John Deere Gator HPX was put together. The arm rest on the right side of the Gator is coming off already. This happened the second day we had the Gator. Other than that the Gator is a great toy for a child.

Absolutely great success. Grandson loves his "green monster truck". Probably a bit young at 2 1/2 nearly 3 as far as steering, but sure that with practice he will manage. Have 5 acres to explore and he is very excited.

We have had ours for 2 years now and have never had a problem with it. My kids use it nearly every weekend for several hours and we have never had to replace the battery (we usually have to recharge it once a month). In addition to driving it on the neighborhood sidewalks/streets we have also taken it to the family farm on many occasions and it does great on grass, gravel, and dirt roads. The wheels are still in good shape (they are plastic) but when they do start to wear we will probably just put some rubber traction bands on them. It is also easy to steer and reverse. This Gator has it all... Power, Speed, Manuverablity, and Durability. We could not be more happy with this product!

I just bought this for my 3 year old. She is still learning how to steer but she loves riding it. My son who is 1 rides with her every evening. I like that it has 2 speeds. So far the battery has been good. Both my kids love the dump bed.

My 2 year old loves this and can easily go from one gear to the next and reverse. The battery is a little difficult to get in and out to charge, as it is in front behind the front bumper and the plastic door that holds it clicks in to little plastic holes. Worth the trouble though when i see her having a blast driving it!

This is very cute but in no way can a child over 42 inches fit in this thing. My son just turned 5 and is about 44 inches tall and his knees were not hitting the dash but right up to it. Definately wouldnt be in it for long. Walmart is great as usual and took it back. This is good for a 2 or 3 year old but thats it. Now we have the Power Wheels green jeep hurrican and this definately by far is the biggest. We got it 5 years ago for my oldest and they both ride it. The Jeep Hurrican is definately your best bet for a taller child, and i researched all of these vehicles with my son sitting in them. I hope this helps.

The tires often spin in the grass, but we have not tried it with the higher speed. Probably would be a lot better. Our 3 year old loves it and wants to take it out for a ride every day!

I was surprised on how much was already assembled! The rest of the assembly was pretty easy! It took me about an hour by myself. For being a kids toy its built pretty good! Seems like they could have used a harder plastic in some places! My 3 year old loves it. He only has been riding it for a few days and he has got it down pretty good! Still working on steering but its coming! It does have some problems getting traction in our yard but I have been researching ways to deal with that. Not sure if I want to put screws in the wheels of a brand new toy? But there are other options as well. Like I said though over all good product and you kids will love it!

My wife and I bought this item for our son. The thing is cheaply made and parts fall off every time he rides it. The batteries are hard to find at a low price and the charger died after only 2 years of use. There is little leg room so your child will out grow this really fast. I would not recommend any Peg Perego products!

Not enough power for sloped yards.

My yard has a slight slope to it. The Gator almost can't make it up the hill over dirt with the two kids abord and in 2nd gear. The slope is not alot at all, about 1 foot up for every 12 feet traveled. One kid needs to get off and push even with a full charge on the battery! The other anoyance is that the accelerator cuts in and out sometimes. This seems to be a defect and seems to be dependent upon the exact position of the speed lever but, the speed lever is very easily bumped. So even if I make sure the speed lever is set just right, it won't be again two minutes later. This is a very slow toy even in high gear and might not be enough for some kids. My two year old should be okay for a while but my five year old is already wanting more speed. The Gator was very easy to put together however. I recommend this product for flat areas of concrete and road with minimal grass.

LOVE this! Nothing else compares..its worth the extra money esp if you don't plan on just driving it on concrete or flat surfaces. My lil guy is 4 yr 2mo and he already knows how to put it in reverse, press gas, drive, and steer. Hubby has locked in place so it won't go over 2.5mi per hour but we have set it on 4.5mi per hour and it boogies. We take ours to the schoolyard and my son runs over rocks, tall grass, water puddles, crushes pinecones and we can't wait to take it to the beach. If you have land or live in the country this is for you....it won't get stuck and peel out (like our cheap Jeep does#..it can drive over almost anything. Best part is..its very roomy and both of my boys #97 precentile) can ride in this together...does not affect speed or performance. Battery life lasts about 1-1.5 hrs so we purchased an extra one for around $60 I believe. Currently looking to add another Peg Perego ride on to our fleet for out 3yr old as he is now wanting to drive the John Deere. AWESOME ride on for little dudes!
