This fridge works great, until it doesn't. Worked as advertised for about four months, then the circuit board burned out.

Quit working at 1 year mark; did not work well

I got just over the 1-year mark and the refrigerator quit working. It did not just stop cooling well, it quit entirely.
When it was working, it was not great. I used it for drinks and if I put more than a few bottles of water in at a time, everything else in the fridge seemed to warm up. Maybe that is just the nature of a small refrigerator, but this one seemed worse than most.
The box indicates this is made by Haier... I will be staying away from both the Haier and Black & Decker brands after this.

I brought the Black and Decker 1.7cu ft. compact Fridge in August to come to school with me and it has stopped operating. I was hoping it would lasted longer. I have many Black & Decker products I am disappointed in this product.

Nice, quiet refrigerator

Because the main cooling system is run by fans, the only noise that comes from the fridge is a soft buzz compared to the loud humms and violent shaking that came with my previous mini fridge. If the room you keep it in is less than 75 degrees, it seems to work fine, the only problem I have seen so far is, because it works on air circulation, if you keep bread in the fridge, it gets dried out and stale within 24 hours, but I didn't have it wrapped in anything, just a foam box. It doesn't have a freezer, which I was happy about, because I really don't need one, and it takes up room. There is a place in the door for large juice bottles, and the shelf inside is adjustable/removable. There is also a light inside, which comes in handy at night.

This worked better than we thought it would. We did miss having a small freezer. The door holder wire did not stay in place and we had to keep picking up fallen items. It suited our purpose and we will continue using it for a while.

This fridge is the perfect size. My only regret was not remembering to check if it had an ice section. It doesn't, but not the end of the world. Otherwise, PERFECT!

Review 7 for Black & Decker Nucool 1.7 cu. ft. Compact Fridge
Okay for the price

I bought this at a Walmart store as a secondary refrigerator.
One of the things that's good about it is also kind of annoying: Its light weight. It was great when I had to carry it into my apartment, but not so great when the entire fridge moves every time I open the door.
Overall it's a decent little fridge, but if I were to do it again I would go up in price by $20 or so and get something more substantial.
Something to note: Be sure to check the two circular fan/vent things in the back for dust on a regular basis. I didn't think to do this and last week the fridge stopped cooling. I didn't understand why and was ready to junk it when I happened to run my hand along the back of the unit and came up with two little pads of dust that had been impeding airflow (kind of like what happens with a hair dryer).

I bought this as a christmas gift for my daughter-in-law. She keeps it under her desk at work and loves it. It is the perfect size and keeps her lunch, snacks, and drinks cold. It is exactly what she wanted. The only reason I didn't give it all 5's, is that she has only been using it less than a month so I am reserving total judgment on its durability.

My wife bought this unit for my son's dorm room. The unit does not cool and and it makes everything placed inside it smell like plastic. This is yet another foreign-made appliance that I have had to scrap before its second year of use. I'm very disappointed and will not buy anything with the Black and Decker brand again.

Truck driver's experience with it.

I bought this fridge because I needed something to keep my dairy and perishables fresh and cold on the road, and I get my AC power for a 1000 watt inverter, which doesn't really put out enough watts to start even a small compressor driven fridge.
First, the good. It keeps stuff cold, really cold. Make sure you leave enough room around the vents so it can blow off waste heat, though, or it'll affect its ability to refrigerate. Very low power draw, around 100 watts or so while running according to my inverters's display. It'll run all night with the truck off and be cold in the morning. I've had milk that has been in it for a week, come home with me for the weekend, and gone back in the fridge when I went back out still be fresh at the end of the second week. This isn't one of those junk Coleman coolers they sell at the truck stop, it's serious business.
Now, the bad. Its a tad delicate. When I mounted it off my top sleeper bunk, I smacked it into the wall a bit and that was enough to bend the cover over the lower fan and stop it from moving. I freaked out because the fridge was getting warm and I couldn't figure out why until I took it down and flipped it around and saw the bent metal. Unbending it got the fridge going again. And...it just fried on me this week. There's a resistor next to where the power cord plugs into the circuit board...it was leaning on the power cord, got overheated, and fell apart. Possibly a design flaw...if you're a little handy, you could probably pull the back off and throw some electrical tape around those wires to insulate them a little better, I dunno.
All in all, its a decent product given the flaws, and it worked out well while it lasted. Am I irritated that it broke? Yes. Am I going to Walmart tomorrow and probably buying another one? Yes, and I'll try and keep an eye out for what made it fail the first time.

Review 14 for Black & Decker Nucool 1.7 cu. ft. Compact Fridge
low cost, good value, good performance

While I was a little concerned about a true "compressorless" refrigerator as a replacement for a traditional bar refrigerator, i was very pleasantly surprised. at first, i was nervous because the cube weighs a fraction of the traditional compressor styles. but i had no time to go back and make a switch since i had guests showing up the following day. i loaded it with beer and soda and let it go overnight. it is very quiet and i was expecting cool, but what i got was very cold beer and soda. needless to say, i am now a believer in this style refrigerator! the cost and energy usage are also going to be small in comparison to what it was replacing. i would not hesitate to purchase another.

I bought this fridge 2 1/2 years ago and it just gave in yesterday. I keep it in my classroom and thought I was leaving enough room around the back and sides. I unplug it in the summer and use it only during the school year. Although I'm a little disappointed it didn't last longer, I will probably go ahead and purchase the same fridge again. It worked great, wasn't too big and had enough space to keep my lunch and a few staple items at all times.

Fridge was nicely packed, no dings or scratches. It operates very efficiently and quietly. It has dual fans for cooling, but it really is whisper quiet. You don't even get the typical hum of most compact fridges.

It cools great and is compact enough to fit in almost any space. It keeps the drinks ice cold and holds several can drinks and bottle juice drinks, with space left over.
