After careful research, I settled on the Fridgidaire 12,000 BTU window unit because, it operated off of 115 house current, easy to install, has a remote, 3 speeds, cools nearly my whole 1100 sq. foot rancher, and at the time only cost $288.00!
I have central air/heat pump, but wanted a backup unit that would run off of my emergency whole house generator system when the regular electricty goes out with no problem. This is the "one".
I an truly satisfied, and highly recommend this unit to any one.

Our central air unit just didn't cool enough when the temperatures got 90 or above. It is putting out the max it can. So we bought this window unit to supplement our central air. It has gone way beyond supplementing. The whole house is much cooler now that we have this unit. It doesn't run all the time. In fact, if you put it on energy saver it actually runs a small percentage of the time. It has done an excellant job for us and I would highly recommend this window unit.

This compact a/c surprised me! Due to the layout of my house, the only place I could have this unit is in my bedroom. With the help of a couple of ceiling fans to whip the air around, it does a great job cooling my 750 sq. ft. home. And the delayed start is great for those sweltering days that you want to return home and not wait for the a/c to cool the place.

Indeed, my house was stifling hot like the bayou in the summertime. Then in came Captain Frigidaire! Now I sleep with enough bear pelts in bed with me people often confuse me for a sane person covered in bear pelts! I bought this Frigidaire 12,000 BTU's window AC to supplement my central air system on very hot days... But now, I'm only using my cenrtal air to supplement this window unit...Powerful fans blow cool/cold air across me as I sit in my living room on the net or watching TV... I suspect this unit will also help cut down my cooling bill since it's energy efficient.
Naturally, this window AC is louder than my central air units cause the units of my central air are not sitting in the window, but outside on the other side of my house... So I do have to turn the TV vol up some because there's no such thing as a silent window unit....But this doesn't bother me in the least,,, I'm enjoying the cool/cold air being pushed by the powerful fan in this AC... I'm thinking about buying another one for our downstains bedroom.
My mother-in-law bought the Frigidaire ( the 10,000 BTU unit ) after taking the Hairer 10,000 BTU unit back to Targets cause it did a very poor cooling job... She's now very satisfied.
Also,,, I LOVE the remote control.

Recommendation is conditional. The product works acceptably, but it is definitely overrated claiming able to cool 640 sq/ft - at least in Arizona. It would probably do fine if the temp did not go above 90.
It fails to keep less than 200 sq/ft comfortable here.

This item is an extremely well built item that cools our living space really quickly. It has auto controls, sleep mode, and a clean air mode that helps filter out impurities as they enter the air. Great for my allergy ridden family. Runs quietly, easy to install, and frankly the best deal on a quality name brand air conditioner I could find, anywhere. Site to store shipping was what I used. Unfortunately, I had to order it 3 times before I received one that wasn't damaged during shipping. Now that I have my Frigidaire home, I love it. Third times a charm, I guess. If you need a air conditioner about this size (12,000 btus) I highly recommend this one.

A/C unit is everything you could want for the price. Work excellent. I installed in my garage and it cools without strain. The automatic controls are excellent.
Downside!!! The height measurement is actually 20 and one quarter inches because of protusions on the bottom of the housing. I had to enlarge height opening so unit could be tilted for drainage.
Rally a great value.
