I went to Consumers Reports to look at their list of recommended tv's and the only two large tv's were Sony Bravia and Vizio recommended at this time. The Sony was 2 times as much as the Vizio but according to the ratings the main difference was the sound quality. My husband and I both wanted surround sound anyway, so we bought the Vizio for the great picture and invested the money saved by not buying a Sony, on a surround system and Blu-Ray player. We are so happy with our decision--the picture is wonderful and the sound is incredible. Sony would not have been a bad choice but to add the surround system would have cost us at least $1200 more than the entire Vizio system we set up. That is a ton of money in our book. We are delighted with our purchase from Walmart/Sams and the decision we made.

This television replaced a dying old CRT that was, in its day, big. I checked Consumer Reports for some insight. After reading the guidance on size recommendations for the room, I checked their listings. Near the top in my size requirement was this Vizio. I'd never heard the name before. Checked online: Appears to be domestically made (as much as can be, I suppose). Price was surprisingly low (end of model helped). Saw one on display at the local store, though none were in stock locally. Went through their online portal.
Delivery was per schedule using shipper. My wife received the shipment, which the gents were kind enough to set inside the front door (being shippers, they are supposed to deliver it to your curb only). Box had minor superficial damage: The cardboard near one of the quick-release plastic fittings (used to hold the top and bottom sections together) was slightly damaged. The TV in its plastic wrapper was visible through the hand holes in the sides of the box. No damage to the contents.
Went with a wall mount for safety and visibility (TV came with provisions for a restraining cable). Suitable wall mount later purchased from Wallmart. Significant thought needed for installation: Height of new cabinet, height of TV, clearance above cabinet, mounting bracket positioning on TV, studs. As always: Measure twice, cut once. Fortunate that assembly was adjustable after installation!
Suitable surge suppressor for all attached devices. No cable, just broadcast, attached inexpensive DTV antenna.
Powered up ok. Channel search ok. WOW. Many options and settings I've yet to explore.
Subsequently, attached a Vizio Blu-Ray player. The up-converted DVD image was surprising. Son attached his X-Box; huge!
Their remote is serviceable. However, I believe the TV will last much longer than it will. There is a lesson here: After our dog chowed down on the remote for our DTV converter, I discovered the shortcomings of universal or after-market replacements - Only the original will do. For the Vizio, I ordered a backup; surprisingly, none in stock at the Vizio site, had good luck with www.remotes-express.com, though.
It’s been on the wall for several months now, in daily use. No problems at all
Overall: An excellent product from Vizio, and an excellent purchase from Wallmart.

tv is great. only had it for one day. i dont see the black line in the tv on some commercials like ppl say. the sound is pretty good, like the options it offers. right now i have it hooked up to regular cable and the picture is great. always do your research before buying electronics. i did and i found this tv was the one i wanted. price was perfect. vizio does not display this tv on there web site. make sure u take advantage of the walmart protection plan. this is the #2 vizio i bought. the other one is a 37in in my bed room. still going strong.

Very good buy. Great picture. Very good sound with the right room accustics. Easy to set up and operate. The matte finish screen blocks most of the reflections from outside. Easy to connect older sound equipment to. A very reasonable price for what you get. LCD has been around for a while and has been perfected. Recommend Vizio over other major brands.

We bought the 55" Vizio tv and we were really impressed by it. It was so eay to set up. The picture and sound quality are execellent. We shopped around and I went online,I even read Consumer Reports Magazine to get the best TV for our money . This tv lives up to everything we could expect.We bought it for 1298.00 and it is well worth it.

I have had this Tv for more than a month now and still impressed! Hvae a good friend who works at a store who sells tv's and home theater set ups. He told me that this tv would be good but not great. Boy was he wrong! Playing Xbox 360 games (Battlefield Bad Company 2, CoD MW2, MLB 2k10) all look great on this TV! No lag j8ust great graphics and great gaming. Watching movies is just awesome on this TV. 2012, Transformers 2, Boondocks Saints 2, etc.. just shined on it. Have HD programming through my cable provider. So normal tv is great to look a and very pleasing to the eye. Just watching anything on this tv is amazing. Comparing this TV to a lot of other displays I saw for a lot more this TV blew a lot of the other more pricey brands away. Been saving up for an LCD TV for a while and this TV is worth every dollar I paid for it. A lot of inputs, a lot of gorgeous ways to watch tv! If you are looking for a bargain priced LCD with High Priced LCD features, check this tv out! I recommend this to everyone!!!!

Out of six times I have been to a store, resturant, etc. I saw the quality of the picture and had to go up and take a look at the brand and model. Each time it was the Visio. I did some research and found that are a good TV. Walmart had the best price. Sold!

Overall I was pleased with this Vizio 55" LCD TV, but was very disappointed to find that it has NO USB input - that means you can not connect your Digital Camera directly to the TV to view your pictures -

This is a great tv for $1,298.00, I purchased 3 tv's for comparison, the 55" Vizio tru led 551 from Sam's for $1,776.00 and a Samsung 55" 640 clearance from Best Buy for $1,499.00 The VF550M had just as good a picture as the other more expensive sets. If you use pip then Vizio is much more user friendly than the Samsung. I could not find any other brands that offer pip capabilities. Also the Vizio tv's have a matte screen for less reflection. The Samsung is as shiny as a plazma, very hard to see in a room with light. The sound on all three sets could be better, but most people hook up to an external sound system anyway. Also the Vizio offers variable audio output which is a nice feature for controlling your tv and sound system volume with your tv remote. I do have a problem I don't understand and that is the shiny bezel around almost all flat panel's on the market. Why not make this a matte finish to cut down on reflection from the bezel? I did lot's of testing and believe this is a great set for the price. I also purchased the extended 3 year warranty from Wal-Mart.com for $118.00 just to be sure. Hope some of this helps so you won't have to set up 3 55" sets in your den for comparison.
