Great Sandbox

I have been researching sandboxes for a several months now trying to find the best one for my two year old son. This sandbox was given a good ranking my lots of Walmart shoppers (I also looked on other store sites & still this had lots of good ratings) plus everyone on Walmart recommended it which is just about impossible to get a 100% recommendation for an item.
Many reviewers stated that the top is cheap and I will agree that it does seem cheap as it is very thin plastic; however, this Spring has been very windy in Las Vegas yet the top has never blown off of the sandbox. The only thing that came off was the umbrella which was my fault for not removing it but even then the umbrella stayed on for a few days (it was not open). Our son is very tall for his age, yet he and a friend could still fit in the sandbox with room to play. I only put 150 lbs of sand as a few people recommended that amount instead of 200 but I wish I would have bought the extra 50 lb bag; there would still be lots of play room with 200 lbs of sand.
I am a 24 year old woman and was able to put this together by myself in 30 minutes with a drill. You do have to create a hole for the screws but it is not difficult to do. The bench and table are very sturdy once they are drilled into place.
Even though the Step 2 Summertime Playcenter costs a little more than other sandboxes, I feel it is much better than the others. I would definitely recommend the sandbox.

They're having a hard time getting our grandson out of the sandbox! Perfect amount of sand to play in. Nicely constructed (the lid's a little thin, but serves its purpose).

Bought this sandbox for my youngest sons 2nd Birthday. He loves it. Him and my oldest son, who is 5, play in it everyday. we had to buy additional sand toys to go in it and we put 200 lbs of sand in it and still have plenty playing room. The only problem i have is the lid does not stay on very well. It was very windy the other day and the lid blew right off. We have to keep something heavy on it to keep it from blowing off.

This playcenter is really great. It's a good size and can easily accomodate 2-3 kids in the sanbox. We had to drill a couple holes in the base and stretch a bungee across the lid b/c otherwise it will blow off easily/ Even with the bungee, the recent high winds took the lid off. Also, we had to drill a hole in the bottom so water could get out. But without that, it could be used a pool instead. It assembles easily/quickly with 10 screws. Our box was missing the screws but I called Step2 and they sent them right away. The umbrella is a nice feature & provides ample shade. So, the only downside is having to drill our own holes & rig our own mechanism to not lose the lid. That piece could have been more well thought out.

We have a 4 year old and an 18 month old, and they both love playing together in the sandbox, and the 4 year old loves the bench for eating snacks.
The only problem is the lid for the sandbox part. It is way too flimsy and isn't made to attach in any way. It just sits lightly on top of the opening. The slightest wind will blow it off.

We are on our second summer with this sand box and am still pleased. It has held up very well and during the winter all I did was store the umbrella. I have had no problems with the lid or umbrella ever coming off during the winter or during storms. I expect to get a few more summers out of it as well. Great toy at a great price!

Missing Needed Parts

The necessary accessories were all missing from this order! All the screws, to put together were not included in the package, as listed. I had to wait an extra week, after inspection of package, for the needed accessories to arrive; it was very disappointing to have a child wait before playing with this item. Otherwise, this item is quite nice and am hoping to keep the children occupied during summer months. I appreciate the umbrella to protect the precious skin of the young. I also appreciate the cover for the sand box to keep out rain as well as unwanted animals.

We just bought this for our 2 year old son for his birthday. He loves to play in it every day in the short time that we have had it. Assembly is easy as stated in other reviews. My only suggestion would be to have the umbrella top be adjustable to move as the sun moves throughout the day. We do not have any shade in our backyard until 2:30pm and the umbrella was a key for our purchase. Other than that so far we are really happy with this purchase!

I am a grandma of 3 young boys, ages 2 1/2 , 1 1/2 , and 7 months. We are using this covered area as a pool and not as a sandbox and it works perfectly for us. The boys like to fill the pool themselves and then just love to splash around in it. If you don't mind the mess of sand I am sure it would be great as a sandbox, also. I don't mind the picnic table getting wet...but it would be to hard to keep the sand off of the snacks the children have on the table. It's ok for most snacks to get a little wet from hands , but sandy snacks from sandy hands don't work for us. We live in Florida and it's hot most of the time so the boys love to play with water so this is great for them and their little boats. They want to play for hours in this area. They empty and fill it several times a day, it passes a lot of time for them and they feel like they are helping. It is a great addition and we should have it for several years to come. The picnic table is a great size and works easily for at least 3 children!

This is exacty what I was looking for. My 2 1/2 yr old loves it. I read several reviews that complained about th lid not being sturdy enough and coming off easily, however i live where is gets really windy and have never had it come off. Only problem I ran into was finding good playing sand. Do not buy play sand from home depot or lowes. May be inexpensive but it is a terrible product. Now that i have found good sand you can hardly get my daughter out of it! ours Of entertainment.

Perfect for toddlers

The sandbox easily holds two toddlers and a few sand toys. The umbrella has adjustable heights that allow adults to sit at the picnic table without having to crouch. While the umbrella does not shade the whole sandbox it does provide cover over a good portion of it. The only Con I have is the sandbox cover. While it does provide cover and so far has kept the rain out it is very flimsy. We have to tie it down during storms so the wind doesn't blow it away. There is a hole just outside of the sandbox that we tied a rope through and loop it around the picnic table to tie down the lid when the wind picks up. Otherwise this is a great little play center.

Bought this for my daughters 2nd birthday and she loves it. I can't think of anything negative about it. The umbrella is nice and the table is the prefect size for her.
Make sure if you use site to store pickup that you bring a large vehicle to pick it up, you cannot fit this in a car, and the Walmart employees will really appreciate it!!

My daughter is one and she loves this item. We feel like we got our money's worth. It seems durable and of good quality. The sand box is not huge, comfortably seats her and I'm sure one other toddler would fit as well if she had a friend over.

I bought this for my 4 year old son for his birthday, and he loves it! The umbrella is a little flimsy, but the sand box and table are very sturdy. Be sure and tighten the lid with bungee cords so it won't blow away. We put 240 lbs. of sand in ours, and it could stand to hold maybe 80 lbs. more, if your kids want the sand to be deep. Overall, great product and not an "eyesore" in your yard...pretty colors for a toy.

I thought the product would be a little more sturdy, but I come from the old school where tonker toys were 100% metal. However, my grandchildren who live with me love it and want to stay outside all the time except when the sun is directly over head. My only suggestion for the next shippments is to make the umbrella larger - so it will cover the sand box as well. Thus, I will be purchasing another umbrella and stand so the entire area is covered.
