I never add much to discussions like this, but I always read them before making a purchase. In this case, the reviews were correct. This is an awesome HDTV with a wonderful picture, and I can't believe I waited so long to take the plunge.
I bought this TV in August, and for two weeks I was in the "Wow!" stage. Every sporting event, every nature show, every live broadcast was such an experience for me. Football actually looked almost 3-D on the set. Animal Planet shows are unbelievably vivid and beautiful. This is the first Samsung I have owned after a lifetime of Sony TV's, but I just couldn't be happier with the picture and the performance. Oh....and LOVE the way the screen swivels. You can't always watch TV from the recliner....sometimes you just have to be on that couch! I paid right around $800 for this set, and it was worth every penny. To motivate me enough to write a review means this is an outstanding product.

I bought this tv based on alot of research and reading customer reviews. It's been a month since I received the tv and have been happy with it so far. Very good size, image quality, and audio for the price. One slight issue I had was the partial blurring when viewing fast motions. (i.e video games/sports programs) This could either be because this is a 60hz tv or that i'm currently using composite cables on an "hd" cable box. This is purely a personal gripe, the blurring is minimal and should only be a consideration if you're very picky about image quality.
Besides, that's the ONLY thing I can think of that could be seen as a negative, everything else is great. I appreciate the amount of ports included on the back (3 hdmi ports, usb for connecting your computer, audio composite ports and basic composites for connecting boxes and dvd players.) The swivel base is also a very nice addition and very easy to use. There's a perfect balance between resistance and ease when turning the tv on the swivel base.
Audio is decent, and it can be enhanced by the push of a button on the remote. Obviously if you want the audio enhanced it's best to use a personal surround sound system, and the tv has various jacks to allow simple connectivity of speakers.

There is an error in the specs of this tv. The tv is actually 60000:1 contrast ratio, not 20000:1. This means that the tv is actually BETTER than the specs would lead you to belive. Samsung's site and the user manual both confirm this number.
I am really happy with this. My price point on a 1080p tv was 20 bucks an inch. At this price, and the great specs, this was the tv for me. Go look at them in the store, you will see that this tv has by far one of the nicest pictures of ANY tv in the place. Go get one now!
The only reason I did not give this 5 stars on features is the lack of picture in picture. The sound is good, but there is no option to allow the audio output to 'follow' the volume on the tv. This means your remote cant control the volume to your home theater system. Samsung does have an 'anynet feature' and I expect that an 'anynet' compatible home audio system would work fine. This is not a major issue at all for me but it is one minor inconvenience.

About 2 months ago I picked up a 42" Vizio LCD at walmart. The picture started going dark if the TV was on for more than a few minutes. I returned the TV and got a more expensive Vizio 42" TV. This one had such bad ghosting while watching sports or playing PS3 games I returned it the next day. I decided I'd had enough with Vizio and went with the Samsung 40" TV for $200 more. Well I can only say the difference is incredible. Samsung bleeds quality at all levels and the picture quality looks perfect weather I'm watching Hi def sports, playing blu rays or playing computer games. TV is perfect and you wont notice the 2" screen size difference but you will notice the much better screen quality. Vizio is junk and that is why they cost less. If you want a great TV a a reasonable price look no further than this TV.

This is my 2nd Samsung LCD TV. I own a 32 in. (1 year old) & just bought this 40 in. My Samsung TV's have worked well. I would recommend buying the 3 year extended warrenty b/c the LCD technology is still fairly new.

This t.v. is very nice. Swivel stand is one of the main features that I like, causing me to pay that extra buck for a name like Samsung over Vizio. Everything is nice, speakers are decent, not great (surround sound covers it though). The only reason i put the features as a 4/5 is because its lacking usb 2.0 ports and other non-dependable applications. Compared to my 19 in. Sansui, this T.V. is a 10/10.

I am thrilled with my purchase!!
The picture is stunning and the sound is very good. Spend the extra and get an HDMI cable for your DVD player (if compatible) and you will be blown away when you watch movies.
I didn't know it had a swivel base when I bought the TV but it comes in quite handy. It can be tightened or loosened depending on your needs.
