I bought one of these guitars a few years ago from another dealer and after some work on the fret board and neck it played very well. The one I just purchased from Walmart had finish flaws I did not expect. An open hole in the head near the G string tuner, a black streak under the finish on the back. The gold finish on the tuning gears are tarnished and faded. The B string tuning gear has slip in it. The frets below the 12th fret are setting high. The edge of the fret board and binding are unfinished, frets are sharp and could cause a cut. I am a little disappointed.

Junk, Junk, Junk

I'm an experience guitarist, and am completely familiar with the workings of this guitar. I have ordered a total of TWO of these guitars thinking that perhaps the first one I received was defective. The second guitar arrived exactly as the first. The major problem with this guitar is that the neck angle is set so that it is IMPOSSIBLE to lower the strings to an acceptable height (action). The strings on both guitars arrived at TWICE the recommended height for an acoustic guitar. In order to lower the strings to a factory standard level, one would typically required to lower the action at the NUT and also sand down the bridge. However, the neck angle is so bad that even if you sanded the bridge down as far as it could possibly go, the string action would still be too high to play the guitar comfortably. Both guitars have been returned and I would recommend against buying this guitar sight unseen.

Review 5 for Kona Thin-Body Acoustic/Electric Guitar, Spruce with Transparent Blue Finish

Great value guitar.

I have been playing guitar for close to 15 years and have played (and owned) everything from Alvarez and Ovation to Martin and Taylor.
While this guitar won't sound quite as good as an Ovation plugged in or a Taylor acoustically, it really holds its own well. With a new set of Elixirs, this guitar truly sounds like it deserves to be in a higher price bracket.
While this is obviously particle board, it is one of the best sounding particle boards I have ever played. The thin body of the guitar means you get more on the high strings than the low, kind of like a grand auditorium style guitar.

Love This!!!

First off let me say how much I love the way it looks!!! It's aesthetically pleasing which is good in and of itself. Second the size and weight is great and I love the sound. It does sound different from my full body acoustic but I like the difference. And this plays great electrically, just make sure to invest in a good amp!
One thing I'm not to fond of is that one of the strings buzzes slightly. I haven't bothered to restring it though and see it that fixes it because it's not much bother to me. But besides that this is great!!!! I Love my kona!

Great guitar for the money

I bought this guitar for my step daughter a month or so ago and I'm a seasoned musician (piano, synthesizers and trumpet) who played professionally for ~20 years.
For the money, you can't beat this guitar. It has great tonal quality, a very nice look to it and plays well. I like the volume and EQ controls on the top of the guitar as well as the placement of the input cord at the bottom of the guitar, where the strap connects.
I was amazed at the tonal quality - it really has a warm acoustic sound that sounds great through an amplifier.
