I was looking at the model right under this one at a local retail store and i thought it was a great deal but, of course, it was out of stock. I came here to look for the same model and i found the next model up for a better price! The only thing i have to say is, it's a Sony, it sounds great, I love the Ipod dock, I would like an adjustable equalizer as opposed to the preset sound modes it has, but for the price, the sound, the 1080p dvd upscaling, and the styling of both the system itself and its simple menu I love this home theater system.

I have been upgrading to make my home movie experiences better. I had been looking at getting the Bose V20 but it cost $2000 dollars. After buying all of my other equipment I ran low on money and had to down scale on my price range. I saw the reviews of this system and decided to give it a try. The worst that could happen was for me not to like it and have to take it back for a refund. I will not be carrying it back. This system is great. Not having the bose running with it to compare to I do not notice in loss of sound quality. This system rocks my house. It is super easy to set up and self calibrates its self to give you the best listening experience in your home. If you want a great sound system and do not have a couple thousand dollars buy this system. You will not regret it.

I purchased this Sony system to be compatable with my Sony Bravia 40inch... Wow! I am amazed everyday at the sound clarity and power for the price, definitely a good buy. The system was ez to install and a great compliment for the Bravia Tv.. It also has a Ipod docking station so you can use the remote to control your Ipod and select songs from your playlist. I cannot comment on the FM stereo feature since I only use the Ipod, Tv, and Xbox for this system. With this system you hear things on the Tv that you would miss thru regular Tv speakers!

I have this system hooked up to my other sony products (t.v , ps3 ) and it works very well. The one and only problem I have is that the woofer is a bit loud at night. I tried lowering the bass but it's still too loud. Other than that it's a great system.

After tons of research we went with this sony product,(Sony DAV-HDX285) because of price and @ our local Wal-Mart store, the sound was decent. But the words did not match the mouth. Very annoying. I tried HTMI cable, Optical cable, and the Green, Blue, Red, cables along with the Yellow for video. Nothing cleared up this problem. Even called the Sony Tech, no help at all. (but he did try)We returned this product and went to Best BuY and replaced it with a LG LHB953 Blue-Ray Home Theater so far this one is a keeper.

Easy setup, sound is just ok, if you just want to improve on your flat screen sound you may be pleased, if you want something that really rumbles you'll be disappointed. Very little control of surround variations that I had with my older Pioneer unit, not even close on power, but (the sony) was somewhat cheaper in price, so as always, you get what ya pay for. I should mention the DVD does do a decent job of upconverting (when using the hdmi output).

This is the HDX285, emphasis on the 2xx series. The low end of the Sony Bravia Home Theaters... When playing stereo formatted DVDs it does not engage the surround sound. (Although if you had a 3xx or higher version it would have the option to generate a simulation and use the surround sound speakers.) The stereo speakers on their own are rather weak in comparison. Otherwise, when the surround sound is in the media or on the broadcast, it sounds great. Lots of wires, but not too bad to hook up.

AFTER SETTING THIS SYSTEM UP I THOUGHT IT JUST WASN'T THE QUALITY PRODUCT THAT I WAS USED TO FROM SONY. THE MOVIES SOUNDED OK, BUT WHEN I USED IT TO WATCH MY SHOWS ON TV IT ALWAYS ECHOED. I COULD NOT STOP IT FROM DOING THIS. IT DID NOT HAPPEN WITH MOVIES JUST THE TV. I HAD A JVC HOME THEATER FOR SEVEN YEARS AND WHEN THE SUB-WHOOFER WENT I HAD TO CHANGE IT. MY JVC SYSTEM WASN'T ALOT BETTER THAN THE SONY BRAVIA.IT WENT UP $100.00 THREE WEEKS AFTER I BOUGHT IT. I JUST ORDERED A SAMSUNG SYSTEM MY SON-IN-LAW HAS I BOUGHT HIM. I LIKED THAT ONE VERY MUCH. THANK YOU AND I HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE.

I've had this for about a month now and it is incredible. It is very loud and the sound is very clear. I use it for movies and connect my ipod to it and it sounds so nice. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a great home theater system that doesnt want to pay a ton of money. Out of all the ones I checked out for this price, this is the best value by far.
