easy to put together. looks great - red color very becoming.
I have it the opened position for the bed. I have slept on it every night since I received it. No complaints at all. I like hard mattresses, but it's not too hard. Very comfortable. The order process was extremely easy and it came in less time then they estimated.

I had it delivered to my new trailer inthe contry for camping. It fit perfectly. I wish the legs were longer, being 6'4", I need a higher leg stance. Easily we added a raised platform and it makes the trailer look larger. I love the ease of the many positions and the price is unbelievable for the quality. No no one paid me to say this.

Not bad for the price. A bit hard when sitting on if you don't sit in the right spots. You can feel the metal frame work through the cushion. Was very easy to set up...I set it up by myself. Looks nice in our guest / TV room (we bought the brown one). We're enjoying it. Plan to put an air mattress on top of it when we have guests to make it a bit more comfortable.

My daughter was looking for a futon to relax, read, or have a friend spend the night on. This fits the bill perfectly! Easy to assemble (my 17 and 13 year old daughters did it by themselves). The grey color is rich and really pretty. We are thrilled.

I was so hesitant before purchasing, so I'm breaking my review down by my concerns and how well they've been addressed:
1. QUALITY: We've all experienced the old blown-out futon. This piece of furniture beats the quality of my old, wood-framed sofa that we replaced out. The metal is sturdy and the cushions the perfect thickness - not too soft, not too hard, Goldi-locks "Just Right".
2. LONG-LASTING: Yes, this is part of quality but there are elements that make this piece more long-lasting than I'd hoped for. For example, the entire 'cover' is removable. Totally unzips for washing. What this also means is that if the cover wears out, it can easily be replaced by using the simple panels as a pattern. If the cusions wear out (they are sturdy enough I don't expect that to happen soon), just replace the foam by cutting to size. AWESOME.
3. FUNCTIONALITY: There's 2 adults, 1 teen, 2 huge dogs and a cat in this house. Granted, the furry members of the family aren't supposed to be on the couch but sometimes they 'wind up' there. So I wanted something large enough for everyone but with features that make it both comfortable and useful. This delivers. Both the arm 'wings' can be pulled up in small increments individually. Each 'half' of the sofa seats can be lounged back individually. Laying it all out flat is simple - pull it tight to the center and let go. Set them back up in the position you prefer just by lightly pulling. Breeze.
4. LOOKS: I'm in the process of both remodeling and redecorating. Aesthetics are obviously very important to me at the moment. This sofa will fit into absolutely any setting unobtrustively. It's sleek and modern, minimalistic, serves its purpose and looks great without becoming a focal point.
5. ASSEMBLY: I have enough to build right now. I actually considered purchasing -anything- else rather than have to assemble a couch. It COULD NOT HAVE BEEN EASIER. You lay both halves of the couch flat on the floor, with metal pieces lined up. Have a bit of space between them, and place the connectors (they slip inside) in one side of the couch and tighten - don't over tighten. Push the other half of the sofa tight against the first and screw that side in. Your last step is to place four legs which attach with 2 screws in each leg. The 2 legs for stability when your sofa is laid out as a bed are tucked inside the back of the futon, zipped out of sight - no need to assemble them. Just flip the sofa over and start clicking everything into your preferred position. It was so easy it took my daughter and I about 10 minutes to set up, sit on, and play with the different positions.
I love this sofa. It is nothing like the futons you remember.

I bought this futon two years ago to use as a bed. It didn't take up too much space in my already small room so it was perfect! The cushion part has gotten a bit flat but it doesn't bother me at all. I have used this both as a couch and bed and it is excellent! It is a great buy and at a great price! I would definitely buy again!!

Comfortable futon

I bought this futon for my 16 year old son to use in the basement. He loves it. It is very comfortable and he is able to sleep on it without any trouble.The couch part is wide enough that he and his friends can sit comfortably. I bought another futon last summer and it was very uncomfortable so I was worried.
The only thing I am disappointed in was the color. It stated that it was charcoal gray. So I am expecting dark gray. The futon is very pretty but it is a very light gray. I am afraid that it will get dirtier faster. My only change would be I would order black.

Bought for my 18 year old son's small room. He is heavy, so I was worried. But he loves it and uses it every day and is taking it to college this fall. However, I will warn you it comes in a VERY big box. We had to open the box and separate the components to get it in the car and it occupied the back seat and the trunk. My car is not huge, an Olds Alero. But I would recommend having it delivered to the house instead of the store.
A really great buy!

It is Long Enough

I just had my futon arrive earlier today. It actually arrived earlier then the due date which is a major plus. There was no tears or missing pieces. I assembled the futon my self and it took me no more then 20 minutes. The product is very soft and I can not feel the metal. The Futon is actually a lot higher and wider then I expected from other reviews that I have read. I got this a full time bed. I weigh over 200 pounds and there is no pain when I laid down and took a nap. My butt feels very secured when sitting and it is a all around great product.

I loved that it was delivered quickly and that it was very easy to assemble. I read the reviews before my purchase and was a bit scared but bought it either way. I've had guests sleep on it and they loved it, I don't know if i would recommend it for an every day use. It is a bit low but I love how it looks at it does its job. I use it as a couch in my office/guest room and when I have over night guest I use it as a bed. Haven't had any problems with it and don't really think I will.

The ProductsI ordered ( 2 Mainst5ays Contempo Futon Sofa Beds) were what I expected to get. At the receving end things could have been a bit more organized but overall went ok. Had to redrill 4 holes as they didnt align up right but still no biggy to complain about and overall was still simple to put together. The kids are happy with them so I am happy so the overall story is great.

I ordered the brown model (Appears to be manufactured by Doral Home Products for Mainstays?) It has a nice dark brown microsuede type upholstery/cover. There is about 4 to 6 inches of padding, which is comfortable enough for me (I am 160 pounds and 5'9# but I imagine most people would call the padding just barely enough to be comfortable. The futon looks amazing for the price.
I have had the couch in my living room for a week and have not obsessed over all the lint that it has attracted because it has not really collected any. I have layed on it in my street clothes and tshirt and sweats and it still looks great this weekend #no lint, no bulges in the wrong place, no lumps, etc.# The couch looks very clean after a week of regular use #laying n it to watch tv, laying on it to watch tv and falling asleep, sitting on to watch tv, etc.#
The futon came in a 13"X36"X45" cardboard box. The futon was in 2 pieces. Legs, braces and bolts were in separate boxes inside the main box. The futon was easy to put together once I layed it out on the floor, flattened the 2 pieces and gave myself room to work around the front edge. I put the braces between the two halves of the futon, added the legs, and carefully turned the couch over in place where it will be used #the futon feels lighter than the 65 pounds they say in the specifications area.# Setup took me 30 minutes #I am a middle age male that is fairly handy with tools, but everything was included in the box including 2 Allen wrench tools. You do not need anything but what is provided.#
Once the futon was completely put together I noticed that one side of the back was very slightly #1/2 to 1 inch# higher than the other side. I noticed others mentioned this in their reviews. I made sure I had the Click Clack notches of the back even on both sides. Then I simply tugged gently and pulled the cover at the middle crease area so that it was snugged down on that higher area. I fluffed up the low side. After this adjustment both sides are even. There are 2 zippers on the back of each side of the futon that hide an extendable leg that you will want to pull out and help prop up the back when flattened out into a bed. #Do not forget the hidden zippered pouches on back!
I needed a sofa/bed that was inexpensive. There were a few models a little less money than this one, but this was the first inexpensive futon that caught my eye. It is contemporary and modern looking.

I'm a simple person, and this is a simple piece of furniture. It's accommodating as a sofa and makes a relatively comfortable bed. Not a permanent bed, but a good temporary solution. I suggest some kind of memory foam topper, however.
