Good...but get an in-line amplifier!

After buying a couple (rather expensive) indoor HDTV antennas and having no success I was about to give up on this "free tv" idea.
THEN I went to Radio Shack and they advised me to try an outdoor antenna. Although they didn't have the size I wanted in stock (not too small, not too large) they suggested I try Wal-Mart.
This antenna was simple to hook up and started bringing in the channels I wanted immediately. Although this antenna stated a limit of 40 miles, my broadcast stations are a good 60 miles away and I still got decent reception! A couple channels were a wee bit pixelated so I decided to try an amplifier.
I added a Philips in-line 18db amplifier (Wal-Mart also sales these at 24.95) and the result was excellent. I now get all my channels in crystal clear quality and WITHOUT a huge antenna.
This is the one to buy, just get an in-line amplifier if you still need a little more reception and you should be fine. I now get a dozen or so free channels and no more cable bill. Not bad for about 100 bucks total spent!

will I need to have an electrician set this up?

This antenna sounds like the one I need... tried a few already. But do I need to be an electrician or hire one to make this work? I can read a manual but want to find out how difficult or easy it is to install the antenna and put the in-line amplifier in too?

i was using indoor antenna got 13 channel. but where is was people could trip over it so i ordered this antenna on all reviews. i even bought amps since i thought i would need them well the towers are about 20 miles away in the same area. i have it connect to my wooden fence on a pole only about 9 feet in the air. there are ever green trees in the direction but it does not seem to affect it the wind is blowing right now does not affect well see when it rains and snow here. but now i get 21
but a lot of them are duplicate and 3 are Spanish. so all i really got was 2 more english channels and a bunch of duplicates not sure why they have 2 channels like 11.1 11.1 11.2 11.2 21.1 21.1 21.2 21.2 very odd
so i get 14 English 3 Spanish rest are the same as noted above
over all very nice antenna small seems to do the job for me

The most surprising thing about this great little antenna is that the quality is better than I had expected. For the money I really didnt expect much but its a great little antenna with more quality and strength than I expected. It was easy to 'assemble' and install. I was only receiving 26 channels with my little indoor antenna in the attic but once I installed this antenna I was able to pull in 58 channels! I mounted it on a 15 ft pole and have it next to the house in amongst tree branches (no better options available!) and STILL got the 58 channels! I'm very impressed and pleased with my purchase.

I tried a couple cheap ones you could buy in the store and always was fighting to get signal. This was easy to put up and we got all the channels clear. Was concerned as I didn't want to put it on roof and my location on the front of house would be about 20 degrees from pointing directly towards antennas, we live about 15 miles from towers and had no issues, all came in crystal clear.

1 for 2 TV's and 1 for tv and dvr w/tuner.live in NE PDX and get approx. 20 channels (that I watch).It's very interesting the different signal strengths and station/show info available to each.The TV w/digital converter and my dvr get great signals but a dvd/vcr w/tuner not so much,will use another dig conv. for that .

Great Antenna for the price I am in Central Mass

I am in Central Mass and the signal towers are 40 miles East in Boston
I did quite a lot of research for an antenna we live in a Condo community and cannot have an antenna on the roof. I had planned on using the old post conveniently supplied by Direct TV not to mention the cable lol.
I tried it on the deck and received 21 channels crisp clear HDTV abc cbs nbc fox 5 PBS channels to my delight ME TV THIS TV plus a few others and 3 Spanish all this without an amplifier.
I then decided to try it in the attic and received the same reception and that is where it is now.

This is for sure the antenna to get. We went to antennaweb.org to see which stations we could expect to pull in, and this unit pulled in all of those and 3 more which it shouldn't have been able to! We mounted it to a 4 foot pole in the yard that the satellite dish used to be attached to.
So far it has survived one pretty bad storm which caused a lot of damage in the neighborhood, so I give the sturdy factor 5 stars there. The quality is excellent. It appears to be a precision crafted product.
The instructions are a wee bit dodgy, but basically it's 5 steps - take it out of the box, unfold it, attach it to something, plug it into your coaxial cable, get comfy on the couch. Honestly there are a couple more things, but if this unit is too hard for you to install, I don't know what to say. I'm an old person with arthritis and it took me about 10 - 15 minutes. Most of that time was spent fishing in my tool box for the 5/8" socket and my pliers.
You will need to buy some coaxial cable if this is a new install. We were dropping our pay satellite TV service, and just used the pole and coax from that. Once we plugged the coax into the TV directly, (amazing pun yes?) we set the TV to search for stations, and that was it.

Reception is perfect for 20 channels atleast 15 miles distance. We are surrounded by trees no problem. We chose the outdoor installation over the attic installation. Antennaweb.org was a big help in setting up. Brackets work great. Everything included except all grounding equipment (rod, cable) and cable antenna as well.... You should be happy witrh your purchase.

I installed this on my mother's house replacing an older antenna I bought her around 20 years ago. The older antenna was not digital. She doesn't want or have cable so public broadcasting is her only source of signal. As I read from other review this antenna does not let you down. It pulls every station in the area plus some. I used an amplifier inside the house which feed all 4 of her TV sets and everyone has excellent reception. What quality. Almost every TV she has is digital and was amazed at the HD quality she received. She is currently receiving about 35 channels which is almost like having cable. Though half the channels are in spanish she doesn't mind because she is Spanish. She is very happy with the product which makes me very happy. I am going to get one for my travel trailer as well.

We used to have Direct TV, but recently moved to a new house. Tried an indoor antena at Costco (a thin piece of plastic that did not work). Looked at Walmart.com and found this antena which has very good reviews. So, decided to give it a try, and glad I did. I ordered it on Sunday, and it arrived on Thursday. Took me 1/2 an hour to get out of the box and installed in the attic. I was a little unsure how well it'd work, and I was pleasantly supprised. We can't tell if we were watching it from Direct TV or antena. We live about about 12 miles from the local TV stations, and almost at the lake level (Lake Washington in Seattle). We probaby get more channels than Comcast Basic cable which cost $17.99/month plus tax. So happy that we got this antena. It worths every penny.

Excellent experience! Shipped to home and I received it in just 3 days.
Probably an hour to put together and mount. I am running 2 T.V's of of it 40 miles North of Tampa Florida. Excellent reception. I receive over 30 channels on both T.V.'s.
Very pleased with this product. I still have satellite on 2 other T.V's and am thinking of geting rid of the satellite.

After reading several reviews for antennas that would work well in an attic, I decided on this one and was very pleased with the build quality and performance. I was able to aquire 16 channels of HDTV signals on a TV I mainly wanted to use for emergency situations when very bad weather causes a signal loss on my satellite service reception. Very easy to set up and install. I highly recommend it, for attic or outdoor use. It also comes with it's own mounting bracket.

I bought this to replace a Philips indoor/outdoor antenna that did not perform as advertised (I am less than 10 miles line-of-sight from the transmitters. This antenna does what I need it to, but signal strength is just about enough. Don't expect this to be a long-range antenna.

I was very pleased and surprised when I tested this antenna. I made a temporary mast out of PVC and hoisted it up pointing in the approximate direction of where the stations in my area are located. And even though this area is notorious for poor reception, it worked great at first try.
