Decent Dyson Alternative

We were ready to take the plunge and get a Dyson when I stumbled upon the Hoover Platinum Bagless Upright. It was $298 at Walmart - over $150 cheaper than I have seen it elsewhere, had a fantastic warranty and decent reviews. I decided to pocket the other $200 I would have spent on the Dyson and give this one a go.
This thing SUCKS...in a good way! I'm a clean freak who gets excited by carpet lines left by vacuums. I cannot express the pleasure I get by using this vacuum. It's really, truly powerful and I'm really confident my house is dust and allergen-free by what I see this thing sucking up everytime I use it.
Other pros: Extra long cord - I can do my entire 1700 sq. ft first floor without replugging. It is super easy to move the brush up or down or turn it off all together for the hardwoods with a touch of a button located right at the top of the handle. And the headlights on this thing are cooler than the ones on my car. It also has a neat little "clean" vs. "dirty" sign that pops up when it senses ground in dirt. It's also much quieter than it's competitors which is nice.
Things that are so-so: Cleaning the dirt chamber...not exactly easy or foolproof. But I've read the same with all bagless vacuums including the Dyson. I now empty it in a bag outside. Lesson learned. I also wish the attachments were slightly improved...a longer hose and bigger brush. There are no other attachments on this machine, but that didn't bother me...I never use anything else but those two anyway.
Things I would change: I have to admit, it has pretty poor front and side suction. It's not a dealbreaker, but definitely not a strength on this vacuum. Would love to see that improve. But my biggest complaint is that it is virtually impossible to vacuum the stairs with this machine because there is no lower handle to grab to bring it up and down. I somehow manage to manhandle it and get the job done, but it's not easy. Not sure why that was overlooked in the design of this thing.
Overall, I'd buy it again and recommend it to a friend. Like I said, I can't imagine a more powerful machine. But it's not perfect...though with a couple of changes it could be!

My husband bought me this vacuum, after my bissell died. I love how the brush stops, when using the attachment, and bare floor.love the filtration system. My son has allergies, and doesn't blow out dust. Wish there was a motorized brush tool. It picks up so much dirt, with three kids you need a good vacuum. I recommend buying this vacuum, WORTH EVERY PENNY...

I was worried about my purchase after reading some of the other reviews. One review stated that the vacuum was heavy and needed to be self propelled. I actually find it to be very easy to use, more so than the Hoover this one is replacing. It's pretty quiet and not as heavy as my last Hoover too. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the lack of attachment options and the fact that the two screws that were supposed to be included in the box were missing.

This machine is easy to use. Only problem the screws to attach the handle. Hard to do for older person. Needed to have a stronger person to finish attaching the handle. Like the machine itself

This is by far the best vacuum I've ever owned! I had a very expensive name brand (begins with "K") vacuum for many years and this Hoover has so much more power. We could not believe how much dirt the old one was leaving behind. In addition, this Hoover is much better for my allergies; no more sneezing while vacuuming or buying/changing bags!! Love it!!!

I was so excited to get this vacuum because I spent a long time prior to purchase researching and reading reviews. I was especially pleased with reviews I had read that compared this one to a Dyson, because the price point was more affordable.
To my disappointment, when the vacuum arrived it was broken. The box was in good shape so it did not appear the break occurred during shipping. In fact, the latch for the dirt cup to close was broke, which meant that had I turned the vacuum on and used it, when I went to empty the cup it would have just spilled right on the floor.
In looking over the vacuum I also realized that I did not like the position of the dirt cup release button, which I see as a major design flaw. Even if I could get it to latch, the button is in the back of the dirt cup and is easily hit for release as you put the dirt cup into the vacuum or take it out- which would mean you would spill the contents on your nice clean floor.
Needless to say, I returned the vacuum and went on to purchase a different brand (Electrolux) which I love!
As always, Walmart shipping was really fast and I commend the easy return process- no hassles at the store. But, overall I was disappointed with this purchase and learned to go to stores and look at vacuums in person to try out all the gadgets before buying online.

This is a very good buy. Easy to take apart and clean and has very powerful suction. The design is simple and the electronics are set up well and easy to understand. For the price you won't be disappointed. We did the research on many lower and way higher priced products and decided on the Hoover Platinum Cyclonic Bagless Upright Vacuum, UH70015. At first we were skeptical because of the price of this vacuum but, two months later it is doing great and my wife and I are glad we made the purchase. Definitely recommended.

My wife loves this Vacuum. It does a wonderful job on the carpets. I thought our carpets were basically clean until she use the Hoover Vac. I could not believe what this vacuum pulled from our carpets. I would recommend this to anyone and the price was much less than I would have paid after I used it!!!!

Pet hair wraps around the cone in the center and (yes) it reduces the suction.
Cleaning the machine is a tatol pain. The manual says just release the latch and empty the dirt bucket and clean the filter when needed. Well,,,, the main body above the dirt bucket where all the cones are, gets really dirty with dust and pet dander. The manual doesn't say anything about how to clean this area. There is no way to clean this unless you take a garden hose to it. Then you have to let it air dry because you can't wipe it dry.

I wouldn't buy this vacuum again.....When u take the hose off to use it doesn't stay connected. Very irritating. The suction is okay but not as good as my old wind tunnel.

Even when I thought my carpets were already clean, this vacuum picked up so much more. It's amazing what I found in the clear cannister. I have a nice central vac system, but now I'm probably going to use this all the time. It is just so efficient. It's kind of heavy, but still much easier than dragging out the hose and connections to the central vac system. Great vacuum cleaner!

I was a little skeptical at first because of the weight (25.6 lbs) but the vacuum is extremely easy to operate even for me, a senior citizen. This vacuum picks up much better than my old Hoover but I do really miss the retractable cord which does make life a lot easier and neater.

Had looked at Dysons and just could not imagine spending over $600.00 for one when it looks like such thin, flimsy plastic. Like everything, this Hoover is mostly plastic as well but at least it looks like thicker sturdier plastic for less than half the price. Very impressed with it so far.
As vacuums go, it's quiet. Does an amazing job on carpet or hard floors and we have 3 house cats. It edges well. Easy to empty. The 40' cord lets me do almost the entire house from the same outlet. It has the best headlight of any vacuum I've ever used. The carpet height adjustment and brush roll/off is all on the handle. This combined with the fact that to use the wand you simply lift straight up on the handle at the top of the wand means you never have to bend over for anything but winding the cord when you're done. At a certain customer review site the wand/tool air flow was rated as only "Good" but I wonder if it was a little deceiving because of the larger diameter of the tube and hose than most. I see no problem with it and is as good as most I've used. The first time it sucked up a sock through the wand and into the hose while still far enough from it I did not expect it.
Durability? Time will tell but it has a 5 year warranty and I can almost buy 3 of these for the price of 1 Dyson Animal. Hoover scores! Highly recommended. Hope I can still say that in a few years but it does feel & sound solid for what that's worth.

I have had this vacuum for alittle over a month. The suction is great! The canister is a 2 hand job to empty because the bottom door doesn't shut easily and you have to force it shut! The clean/dirty light only works with dirt not dust. Also the light stays on dirty if it is picking up even a grain of sand, its kind of useless! Over all its an okay vacuum it gets the job done but I wouldn't purchase it again.

the only thing I did with this vacuum was take it out of the box and stare in disbelief at how big it was! im a small framed female - i just can't push or handle something that big. so i returned it (without hassle -- love that about Walmart!) and today received my canister Dyson. have vacuumed the whole house with Dyson (floors and carpet) and it is AWESOME all-around. I will say that pictures are deceiving to me online....for a canister I think even the Dyson is large compared to what it looks like in the picture!

This vacuum has a lot of extra bells and whistles like a "clean" or "dirty" light that tells you if you have vacuumed an area well enough, but it lacks in everything important. Suction is just ok. It is kind of heavy and bulky. Mostly we are disappointed in the fact that it has to be taken in for service if something as simple as a belt breaks or gets loose. Had we know that we certainly would have picked a different vacuum as we do not live near a certified repair center and have to pay to get it fixed. This was certainly a bad buy on our part and we are trying to figure out how to get a different one.

LOVE this vac! I've had this for almost two years now, and it still works great! It is the best vac I've ever had for picking up dog hair. Power cord is super long so I can vacuum large areas without having to plug the vac in another outlet in the next room. Wish the extension wand was a little longer though, other than that, a great machine.
