Black & White Night (Music Blu-ray) (BD Amaray Case)

I received this from my nephew for Christmas. I was surprised that he even knew who Roy Orbison was! I had forgotten all about this show and it brought back many memories. Roy Orbison has always been seen by me as one HECK of an artist and this performance is such a small part of the many pieces that made him so great. I am very pleased with the quality of this DVD and thankful that my nephew has the good music taste gene of our family!

This concert is super cool-imagine having 5-6 of your favorite artists all come together and put on a show. That is exactly what this is! Roy does an amazing job of not "stealing the show" and everyone is spotlighted at one point or another. The whole show is about an hour long, and every minute & every song is worth it.

I actually have owned several copies of this great concert, but this will be the first review I have ever posted. Let me say, the first time I saw this concert on PBS I was stunned. Being a lifelong Roy fan, I didn’t even know this concert existed… I purchased it the very next day… and since then it has been watched hundreds of times. Black and White Night was a concert towards the end of Roy’s career, but it really did put him back on top where he belongs.

The song selection for this concert was awesome. I am so glad they included Ooby Dooby, which was Roy Orbison’s first great song. Ooby Dooby jump started Roy’s career, and it was important to include that song nearly 30 years after. Looking at the track list right now, I really do love every single song included, from Only the Lonely to Oh, Pretty Woman. Uptown is definitely my favorite song….but the version they do on this CD is great, I like it better than the original…. “Uptown, in penthouse number three….”

For a concert that was only performed in front of a couple hundred people (if that), Black and White Night was really one for the ages. Having the additional performers with Roy really bring out some songs that wouldn’t normally have been as good. It was a perfect blend of Roy Orbison’s beautiful voice, and the talents of all the other musicians and singers. This one of a kind performance was a big part of Roy Orbison’s 80s comeback, and definitely propelled Mr. Orbison is a new level of greatness.

I first saw this concert on PBS and had to purchase it, but that was a few years ago.... Since then, I got a Blu-ray player and thought I'd give it an upgrade, which turned out to be a great decision. In crystal clear view, with this Blu-ray, you have access to a great concert featuring some awesome musicians. Besides the big names that are featured (Springsteen, Costello, etc.), you get the touring band of Elvis Pressley. I mean, how did they get all these great musicians to participate in this awesome night? It was so awesome that they did, and I am so glad I purchased this item.

Black and White Night was a great concert to begin with, featuring a lot of big names.... but the quality is amazing! The only other copy of Black and White Night that I had was VHS, so imagine the drastic change to Blu-ray. I was so amazed..... Getting back to the actual concert, it was very well done. The cinematography was also well done, the camera angles, the production, and just the fact that it was in black and white were all brilliant ideas. I am so glad that they came out with this on Blu-ray, the quality is absolutely stunning!

I never realized how much more crisp and clean Blu-ray is compared to DVD. It’s amazing that they could get it to look so good. I also love how on the Blu-ray they included “Blue Angel”, one of my all-time favorites!

The best part about this concert was the fact that it was such a low key event. Only playing to a few hundred people in a small venue, really made it personal and realistic. The feel of the concert was so laid back it gave it a “fun” atmosphere. The trump card at the end of the concert was of course “Pretty Woman”. The sunglasses on the orchestra was also a neat feature.
