This thing is really a nice unit. I have not had it very long but it seems like it is very high quality and has a great paint job like all Weber grills. With reasonable care it should last a long time. The only problem is that they are not carried in store by anyone and can only be bought online. I recommend that before you buy one check out The Weber Virtual Bullet website online for alot of good information about this cooker.

I'm relatively new to the world of smoking. My initial purchase was a Brinkman box smoker. The price point was excellent but I should have paid attention to the online reviews. I returned it to Home Depot and started to research more smokers. My research eventually lead me to the Weber 18.5 Smokey Mountain. After reading over 200+ reviews the decision was final. However, I wanted to purchase it for as less as possible, who wouldn't. The average price was $299 + shipping. I just so happened to check out Wal-Mart and while they did not carry it at any of my local stores I was able to purchase it online for $261 with free site to store shipping.
The process could not have been any smoother. The smoker actually arrived well ahead of the estimated pickup date. Upon inspecting the contents of the delivery I paid the cashier and took ownership.
My first cook was a chicken followed by a slab of baby back ribs. The smoker quickly reached temperature and did a phenomenal job at maintaining temperature. During the end of the cook I had to open the bottom vents a bit but oxygen is needed to keep the remaining coals hot. The water pan was filled during the beginning of the cook and had over half left afterwards.
With this purchase I'm a happy camper. Weber has developed a wonderful product and Wal-Mart, as usual, has the best price. If you’re interested in this smoker no need to look any further. Make the investment, you’ll be glad you did.

I have only used it once to smoke a brisket and two pork shoulders. It was fairly easy to use and worked well through the night. The center section needed to be finessed back into roundness but it was easy to assemble.
