The Carlson Extra-Wide Walk-Thru With Pet Doors are the best gates to keep your children and pets from wandering into certain unwanted areas in your house. They are really simple to assemble and they do not put holes in or put unwanted marks on your walls. They are light weight but really sturdy against the weight of our large dog and are attractive ensembles with the rooms you use them in. Adults can always easily observe what the child or pet is doing and their locations in the house. These gates limit the movements of your child or pet. Since they can see the adult, they will feel very secure. We have found them to be safe for your pet and small children although they are mobile and can be used in any room in your home. These gates are very popular and the demand is really high. Wal-Mart (online) was the only vendor to have these items. We already have 5 other gates which are being used to block off the living room, the dining room, the kitchen and the bedrooms. We will be ordering and purchasing more for the basement and garage.

The gate is EXACTLY what I was looking for! I have a medium sized dog that likes to get into the cat food and the cat box. Thanks to this wonderful gate the dog can't get into the cats area of the apartment, but the cat can come and go as she pleases. It was really easy to put up and adjust. I was able to do it myself in less than 5min.

Product Quality: Product appears to be well made and I feel confident that once I get it up the gate will do what it is made to do.
Set-Up: After I accounted for all parts I started to attempt to set-up my pet gate, but sadly to no avail. I miss understood the description when I first read it. I thought with the two extensions included would be sufficient to fit the area I needed to block, but it was short by one to two inches so now I have to order another extension to make this work. I will also need a second person to hold the gate a couple of inches above the carpet while I connect it to the wall. The other thing was that the gate did not reach the area where it needed to latch onto - weird, but the instructions says that once you attach both sides to the wall it will come together. I will have to trust this statement.
Sadly, I will have to continue climbing over my large storage boxes I use to keep my puppies in. And my pet gate will have to sit in the box until the other extension comes in and my son comes down to put it together for Momma, My hero :*) Can't wait to get it up so I can just walk-threw and not have to climb over....

We were looking for something that would keep our 1yr old from falling down the stairs, while still letting our almost 10yr old cat go up and down the stairs. We really like the big swing door that lets us walk through without having to step over the gate. Once I got the hang of it, I was able to open the latch with one hand. The construction is sturdy. The extra extension is nice, gives you more options as far as where to install the gate.
You may want to put something between the wall and the little plastic support piece that the gate pushes against. When I had to move mine, it was really hard to take off the plastic piece off the wall and when I finally took it off, I took some wall paint with it.

Has more features being expandable and with small pet gate than pet store gate. Works perfect for our situation. Keeps big Blue Tick hound out of kitchen, but little poodle can come in. Looked bent out of box. Read directions., it's supposed to be that way.

Perfect for the combination of kid & small pets. The little one has not been tempted to tinker with it yet but I'm certain that when he does this gate will hold (time will tell). The pet door has a small spring pin lock - you can easily control between open & securely shut. I purchased to be used by someone with hand pain, the gate proves easy to open & walk through. It's the right choice.

Very easy install, no damage to walls. Our opening is 42 inches at top and almost 41 inches at bottom including baseboards. It isn't perfectly straight especially if you make it tight. The gate/door opening itself is 16 inches wide, not really big. We are happy with it.

I am using this gate but it was hard to put together by myself. The quality is not great but for the money it's not so bad I guess. I wouldn't buy it again but it is sufficient. One of the few that fit a 43" opening.

We got this gate to keep our 2 1/2 year old from going up the stairs. Our stairs to the 2nd floor are very steep and narrow, so it is dangerous for her to climb. The cat's litterbox and food are upstairs so a regular gate wasn't working for us. We saw this one and thought our problems were solved. Unfortunately, we learned the hard way that our 2 1/2 year old can fit through the pet door easily. :( The gate is well made and looks nice, but not functional for our needs.

I need to cover a span of 42"...and this gate did that, by using one of the two included extensions. I know I followed the directions properly. (I had a friend double check me.) But the plastic piece that "holds" the extension to the main gate was thin, and poorly designed. Or, if it was designed properly, then it was just manufactured incorrectly, because the only thing "holding" one part of the gate to the other was the tension of the gate against this thin piece of black plastic. No "channel" for the pieces to fit together, no locking mechanism, nothing to hold the main gate and extension securely together. And in order to get the tension strong enough to keep the dogs from easily toppling the gate (they lean on the bottom of it) I had to tighten it pretty tight. With the gate that tight, the plastic piece gave way after 2 days. I returned the item and I'm still looking for something better.
I may just get the cheap child gate (with no "walk thru gate") that you have to hop over.

I am so pleased with the 2 gates I purchased. They are very easy to set up and look very nice. Since I did not want to permanently install hardware I was VERY pleased to find an extra-wide gate that stays put with only pressure and no screws or marring to my walls or woodwork! There ARE screws and end caps that can be installed if one wants... advised for gates at stairways. All in all, the gates are a very good value! I saw similar ones on other websites (namely pet stores) and the prices were twice as much!
