Intex's Saltwater System is a natural way to treat your pool and destroy bacteria, viruses and algae. Install as directed, add inexpensive all-natural salt and the pools water is automatically converted to an effective algaecide. No more red, burning eyes, dry skin, or faded swimsuits. The pool's water salt level is undetectable by swimmers, so it feels like clear, clean, fresh water. Virtually eliminates the need to buy, handle and store pool chlorine.

I was excited to get this system after having had a pool for years, doing the chlorine and/or Baquacil thing and spending all sorts of money and time. I received the system and got it set up, purchasing the salt in 40 lb bags from my local pool supply store. Right away, it told me I was low on salt; I was getting really frustrated, b/c when I tested the water, it said I had enough salt, even almost too much! I was getting really mad, until I finally realized that I was using the WRONG chart to see how much salt was in the pool!! There is one chart ON the bottle of the test strips, and there is a chart on the instructions that come with it. The chart on the instructions is COMPLETELY different than the one on the bottle (can't understand why!!), and it also says, in very light grey letters in the background "Sample, Do Not Use". DUH!!! So, I tested again, used the chart ON the bottle, found I truly WAS low in salt, added more, tested again, and the system started working beautifully!!! My pool water stayed crystal clear all summer long! Take into consideration that we had a VERY cold, wet summer...we only swam in the pool less than 10 times total, it was that cold, even with the solar cover. But the water stayed clear, and the most I did was to add a clarifier once a week, recommended by the pool store. I checked the system occasionally, to make sure it was running. One thing I found to happen was that b/c we hardly used the pool, there wasn't a huge need to create chlorine. I found that I only needed to set the system to run about 4 hrs everyday, instead of recommended 5 or 6 for my size pool (24 ft round, above ground). Towards the end of the season, I found the system would run about 2 or 3 hrs, then say there was low salt; I think it had used all the salt in the water to make chlorine, and so it basically "shut" itself off, saying there was low salt. After testing, there really wasn't low salt, but I think that's what happens when it makes enough chlorine. I just left it alone, and when it was ready to come on again, it would make chlorine, work for however many hrs it needed, then say low salt again. I think it may have been our weather too...just too cold! I had to take quite a bit of water out of the pool upon closing it this fall, so I'm not sure how much salt I'll need to add in the Spring, but I'm hoping it won't be a lot. Even if it is, I still spent less on salt and this system, than I would have on other chemicals and time to manage it! I spent about $75 on salt for initial startup, plus the test strips, plus ONE bottle of the clarifier, which was only about $12 for the year. Not to mention the time I saved not fussing with any chemicals! This was TRULY worth it! Also, the pool store I bought my salt from sells salt-water systems that cost closer to $1,000! This worked just as well as they said those expensive systems worked! I don't think you'll be disappointed if you get this system...just be sure to read the correct chart on the salt test kit!! ;-)

I read all of the reviews prior to purchase and after using all summer, the product performed as advertised. I have an Intex 15' x 42" Frame Set Pool (which I also highly recommend), which requires 100lbs of salt. Some reviewers recommended adding less salt initially, so i tried that by adding only 80lbs. I kept getting the low salt code, so i added the additional 20lbs. After that, I never had any problems. I was a first time pool owner and I checked my chemical levels often. I also brought my water to a local store for testing. My readings were in good shape. Sometimes it over-chlorinated, so I set the timer for less hours. I had my pump on an outdoor timer and set it to come on 15 minutes prior to the chlorinator. This again worked really well for me. If you are on the fence about this product, you can get off safely. This product is excellent!

We bought an Intex metal frame 24ft round 52in deep pool in June 2009. Having read up the reviews on those pool kits, the most complained about feature was the pumps that the pool comes with. So we bought this Salt Water System to add on to the pump/filter system. It worked ok at first, but within 3 weeks, it was putting out a "Low Salt" reading. So we added more salt, only to find out that it was our extremely hard water that was causing a build up inside the machine, which causes it to not work properly. So in order to remedy this problem you have to disassemble a part of the Salt Water System, and soak it in vinegar to break up and wash off the scale build up. Not the machines fault, but it is a pain. And you have to add a pool chemical for Hard Water, in order to keep this from happening every 2 weeks...because it will (unless you have a Water Softener System on your home-which we don't). Once we got that part figured out, it seemed that according to our Test Strips that we rarely had the proper chlorine levels, even though the Salt Water System was running 12hrs in the middle of the night. Well, it took me getting a sort of expensive Test Kit (online at www.troublefreepool.com), to get all of the EXACT numbers for water hardness, alkalinity, ph,chlorine, and stabilizers, to finally get the Salt Water System to be able to work at its full capacity. In order for it to put out the correct amount of cholorine, all of the other elements in the pool water have to be correct also. You can purchase all of the chemicals you need to get ALL of your numbers correct, at Walmart, but you have to know what to get, and how much to add. Once I added the correct amount of the other chemicals I needed (pH Down & Stabilizer), the Salt Water System was able to do its job correctly, and then I barely had to touch the water the rest of the swimming season. So I would definetly recommend this product....BUT....you HAVE TO test your water (either with a good kit, b/c those test strips are inaccurate, or take a water sample to a local pool store) and BALANCE your water, BEFORE THIS PRODUCT WILL WORK AT ITS BEST!!! Its alot better then having to manually add chlorine every night, and salt water better for your hair and skin. It may take trial and error, but once you get your water balanced, you will NOT be dissapointed with this system. Oh, and Intex has pretty good customer service too!

Well made & reasonably priced. It works but it is NOT maintenance free as it will stop working if you don't do preventive maintenance on the unit. We have hard water, high ph, lots of calcium and HIGH CALCIUM IS THE ENEMY of this unit. The cells clog up & it stops working after a week or so unless you get the calcium under control. I've become an expert cleaner & have the process down to a 10 minute job & don't mind getting a little wet in summer anyway, but it is a hassle & is spurring me on to get the calcium under control.

We bought our Intex pool in store and decided this year we would try the Saltwater System and ordered it online. In the first 3 weeks of use it worked great. After that it seemed like the system required more care than the non-salt system. Our salt indicator always shows low salt, even though local pool store tested water and said it is fine. We have to shock the pool at least once a week and have gone back to using Chlorine tabs because system is not chlorinating anymore. All in all I would recommend using the system that comes with the pool instead of the salt water system. Same amount of work in my opinion and cost in up keep is not that big of a savings.

Great time saving product. After the initial setup of adding the salt to the pool, you let the machine do all the work. It controlled the algae all summer long as well as keeping the water clear a a bell. It was great. I did nothing to the water all summer long. I put the pump on an outdoor timer, turned the saltwater system on during the same time the pump turned on and presto. Every thing turned on at the same time. Brainless, time saving system. It was great not having to mess with all the chemicals.

Installation is easy, but don't expect it to work the first few days. We have the 4'x 18' diameter Intex pool with the standard pump. We added salt per the instructions, but the unit said the salt level was too low. After several days (maybe even a week - I can't remember now) of continuous circulation, the unit decied there was enough salt in the pool. The unit has worked well ever since. The water tastes a little salty, but not like sea water. Our pool water stays clear, chlorine smell is minimal and algae control is good. I haven't had to shock the pool since we started using this unit in July 2009. I don't miss messing with chlorine tabs either.

If your looking for a low maint., low cost way to chlorinate your swimming pool, look no further!! This is one of the best inventions ever created. I bought my pool to enjoy it, not maintaine it with dangerous, expensive chlorine tabs. The upfront costs will pay for themselves in less than one swim season. My pool makes its own chlorine at night ready for swimming the next morning without any delay!!!!!!!!!!!

IF IT READ LOW SALT CLEAN THE TITANIUM PLATES BEFORE ADDING SALT AND IF YOU GO OUT OF TOWN FOR A WHILE CLEAN THE TITANIUM PLATE TO SO IT WOULD STOP WORKING WHILE YOUR OUT OF TOWN BECAUSE ONCE YOU FIX THE PROBLEM THE WATER WONT BE AS CLEAR AS BEFORE.

Before I purchased this product I dreaded the fact that I had to constantly add chlorine and other chemicals. This pump makes the pool so much easier to maintain. We still have to shock it once a week, but outside of that We have not had to add any other chemicals. We test the water every few days and it's always spot on. If you want to spend more time enjoying your pool instead of adding a bunch of different chemicals, you should seriously consider this system.

It works beautifully! Super easy to maintain. Make sure you keep the pH level normal or you will have scaling. Also after you initially add the salt and turn the saltwater generator on add a stabilizer esecially if you live in the south! I have not had to put anything else in since changing to saltwater.

I bought this on the reviews it got. I fought green water every summer when the temp would drop, and no one would swim I would get shrek water. It would be so green it looked like a swamp. Well it is July and the weather is pittifull. It has not been above 80 degrees in like over a week, and guess what. I am soooooooo happy that my water is still clear and smells so clean. I had a little problem getting pump to run when it lost power but will watch it but other then that was really easy to run. I will attempt to clean the filter here pretty soon. I didn't even have to add that much salt. I lost water when my hose intake sprung a leak had to refill pool some like almost 100 gallons and still didn't need to readd more salt. Thanks great product. I am very content with it and it was worth every penny. I was afraid to buy, but WOW!

After owning my pool for two years and spending much of that time trying to catch up to my pools chlorine and PH issues I decided it was time for a change. I had read and heard about salt water pools and on a random search of Wal Mart.com I stumbled onto this little gem. I have had it running for about two weeks now and my pool has never been clearer or felt cleaner. The instructions are pretty clear from assembly to operation. It comes with enough spare parts to hook it up to any type of pool on the market. It does feel a bit cheap and I have already had one LED burn out on me, but the evidence is there that it works, the water is still clear. Ill never go back to chlorine again.

I had no prior experience maintaining a pool. I was very leary about the use of chemicals to maintain clean water. When setting up the Intex pool we came across information on the Krystal Clear Saltwater System. I researched it and found many people loving it and a few having very little luck at all. I went ahead and ordered it hoping I would be one of the lucky ones. It arrived five days later. The sides of the pool were already get a slick, slimy feel to them. I decided to go along with what another customers said he did and add Shock to the water the day before adding the salt. The next day I added the recommended amount of salt and have been using the saltwater system for 3 weeks now. The only problems I have are 1. remembering to turn on the filter system before going to bed so when the system automatically starts up at night it will be able to work (many times I will purposely change the setting for a longer chlorinating time if pool was used a lot or if there was extreme wind, rain or heat) 2. The directions say you will only need to clean plates once a season - I've already did so because they were blocked with mineral deposits(this may be due to the water)- although it did easily clean by soaking in a vinegar/Orange TKO water solution. After 3 weeks of use I am certainly pleased with the results. I know for a fact I would have struggled with the use of chemicals. I am confident the water in my pool is clean and safe!
