we really like our Rival Seal a Meal vacuum sealer

how ever we live in manchester, Ia & now our walmart here doesn't carry the bags & we very seldom go out of town to do our shopping & we don't shop online so our sealer is just sitting on a shelf & taking up space cause we can't by the bags locally.

Otherwise it does good & we like the freshness of the food we used it on

Smoked Salmon, 09/23/2009
By WhiteWolf1, Sequim, WA
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

I've been having good luck on the river and now have a freezer full of smoked Salmon, sealed the same day it was pulled from the water! It works with the roll so you can make your own size bags. A real plus.

It took a little longer to do all the bags that I had because you have to wait between bags so it has the time to cool down and I had to push on the top hard to get it to come on. I guess that is normal. But the bags stack in the freezer nice and neat!

Saves on throwing away freezer burned meats., 09/21/2009
By kamea, Wyoming
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

I bought this for when I would stock up on meat. I got sick of throwing away meat that was freezer burned. I love this sealer. It took a little getting used to, but it's worth it. You can't have any wrinkles in the plastic when you try to seal it, otherwise it won't seal. And you have to be careful when filling the bags so you don't overfill them. Otherwise they won't seal properly. I think this was well worth the money, and probably works just as well as the more expensive models. For the little bit I use it for, it works perfectly.

I've also used it to save leftovers sometimes. It makes it easy to fit them in my lunchbag the next day to take to work.

Money Saver, 09/10/2009
By reddokc, Oklahoma
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

I bought this just to save left overs but I've become addicted. I make up salads, with everything but the dressing and seal up each bag, lasts me 2-2 1/2 weeks. I make the hubby breakfast bread and muffins and seal those up, they're as fresh as the day I made them after a week. I just back the bag out a bit so that it doesn't vacuum for the breads because it will smoosh them. Great versatile machine that is well worth the money. (Extra tips: if they don't have the cheaper seal a meal bags at your local walmart go over to the food aisles and pick up a great value box of freezer bags, they work with the machine just fine. If you're not wanting it to vacuum out your food i.e. bread then don't put the bag as far into the machine as directed, this will bypass the vacuum and then seal it for you.)

It Works, 08/30/2009
By Timamu, Savannah Ga
Overall Rating: 3 out of 5 3 out of 5

After purchasing some packages of chicken legs, wings, ground beef and hot dogs, we prepared to use our new food sealer for the first time. The instructions were understandable and we began sealing the meats. Like the sealer except for the amount of time the vacuum works. Planning to return and purchase the version with the roll of bags.

Fun new toy!, 08/17/2009
By LRT2, MI
Overall Rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

Seal-A-Meal is my new Toy, I need some more bags. But the price was a little more then I wanted to spend, and Walmart is the least expensive! Even on the bags, its 2 to 3 dollars less at Walmart. My Husband didn't care for the loud sound that came form the Seal-A-Meal motor. But I dont mined, just make sure that the kids are not sleeping when you want to seal food.

Great value. Could have spent $25.00 more for the model that cuts the roll and has a place to store the roll. I did not see the value of that. After cutting two bags, I did not have a problem with cutting the bags. That is the only disadvantage. Need a place for the extra bags or rolls anyway, so I did not care about the roll storage. Very easy to use. Recommend reading directions on making the bags from roll. I would buy the same one again. If you do not want to cut roll yourself, you can buy bags or buy the model that will cut the roll. Cutting the roll is cheaper than buying bags.
Great for storing from the garden, but still need to prepare properly first. Tray freeze peppers and making bags is easy.

I just recieved this product, and I think it will work well for my purposes. It isn't exactly hands free, because you have to hold down the corners quite a while before it tells you that you can remove your hands. I was disappointed that it only came with 6 bags (barely enough to try it out), but that was probably written in the specs, and I just missed it. Otherwise, so far so good.

I bought this product a week ago. It didnt have much suction at all. Would not seal the bags at all. So I thought I may have bought a defective one. Went and exchanged it and ran into the same problems. Your bag needs to be HUGE for the product to suck or seal and cannot handle anything even remotely wet. I returned the second one and sport the extra $50 for the Food Saver brand and it worked perfectly on the same item I was sealing in the same size bag. This prodect is seriously underpowered and should not be even sold.

Just Right!, 06/12/2009
By sigss
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

I've used all of the hand vac and hand sealers around in order to avoid paying big bucks for a "real" vacuum sealer system. To be fair they have their place but this Seal-a-Meal Vac Sealer is just AWESOME!
.
It is simple, easy to use and does the job perfectly. The cheaper ones feel cheaper and from the reviews have lots of problems. The pricier systems have more to go wrong and just cost way too much. The Seal-a-Meal is just perfect for the person who wants to seal a few things a week AND it works great with those generic discount vacuum packaging bags and rolls so you really can save money.
.
If you have a bag sealer keep it handy, you can use it to make staple like spot welds in the bag so bulky items seal cleaner with the Seal-a-Meal.
.
Once you get the hang of this thing you can make your own bags or even tubes. I always end up with extra tomato paste so now I just mix in a little olive oil and make a toothpaste like container. It's a little tricky keeping the sealer from sucking the paste out but once you get the hang of it you can keep the tube in the fridge and just squeeze out what you need.
.
Yeah I'm rambling but it's awesome so if you are looking for a good vacuum sealer at a good price this is it.

I have used this product about eight times. I use it to seal my books. It did not seal one of my books perfectly because air managed to get into the bag after I sealed it, so I decided to double seal it. This is a very inexpensive product, so I am expecting the life to be short. So far, it is working as I expected.

We were getting ready to butcher a Pig and I didn't want to use trditional freezer paper. I had bought another vacuum sealer and it didn't work as advertised. I researched online and went to the store and bought this one. It works great. the hands free is especially good. When it's finishing you can get the next package ready. It comes with an accessories hose,so I can seal up leftovers for work and they stay fresher than they woul in any other container.

This product sells itself short by going on about sealing meat for freezing......we use this seal-a-meal in our kitchen every single day! We re-seal chips, cereal, snacks....everything! We freeze meat and cheese, of course, but that is the least of it!

I take several vitamins, supplements and medications....I have created my own vitamin packs for myself and my husband! Living in Flr\orida, it is essential for hurrican preparedness! All of our important documents are in seal-a-meal bags.

LOVE IT!!!!! Have had ours for almost three years--just bought one for our son who is off to college and bought one for boht our older kids when they moved out, too! I guess it is a right of passage around here!!!!!!

I purchased this product a few months ago, and I use it constantly. I am extremely happy with the price, quality and ease of use. I purchase the Great Value Heavy Duty storage bags (2 rolls for $8.88) to use with this. They come in 11" x 8' rolls. I have sealed meat, fish, chicken, rice, beans, and other items and am finding myself using the machine several times a week. As long as it holds up to the use, I'd stay it's a winner! :)
