John Carpenter went out of this world on making this movie. Cast and crew were just right on bringing the suspence. Special effects were very creative. Just dont show this to the little kids or they will be sleeping in the bed with you for days. Great movie.

For a film of this age to look this good on Blu-Ray is not heard of very often! The Blu-Ray transfer of this disc is fantastic. The whites are right on without over saturation & blacks look deep as they should. There is some grain but not too much that it's a issue. This disc is one to show a friend just how good Blu-Ray really is!

This movie rocks! the bluray transfer is almost
flawless, blacks are bold and colors are vibrent. there is almost no grain interfearence.
JOHN CARPENTER'S THE THING is what horror/sci-fi
movies are made of. it keeps a hitchcock paranoia
through out the picture giving the ending....the only end it deserves! AWSOME. A MUST SEE.

I'm not sure what directors like Carpenter truly aim for with movies like this one... The horror aspect of it certainly comes in play. It keeps you on your toes, scares you, disturbs you, and puts images in your head that won't leave you for weeks, if not months.
I'm a huge fan of horror, but this is not a movie I would ever add to my movie collection.
Horror movies that are pleasantly frightening: Disturbing Behavior, Nightmare on Elm Street series, The Frighteners (with Michael J Fox). These could go either way: Ghost Ship, House on Haunted Hill, Wishmaster.

This is one of the few remakes worth watching, probably because it does not contain any of the current "stars". This is an older remake with Kurt Russell. I always have liked this movie, but being digitalyremastered, with 7.1 surround sound makes it look newly made with crystal clarity, with a lot of background sounds. If you can wait a week to get a movie, Walmart always beats everyones prices.
