The best part about this 4 cd'd set, (other than the music itself), is the book inside. I have looked through it almost every time I listen to his music. I find it so interesting and emotional to look through all of the pictures of his friends and family, and read the things everyone has said about him. You can tell that there was so much heart and soul put into this project. Gosh, how inspiring it is to see that someone who followed their dream and faced so many tragedies throughout their life can continue to pick himself up, continue his dream, and touch millions of people along the way and long after they're gone. Roy inspires me. So did this box set.

What a wonderful collection of Roy's songs. Granted, most of them I already had...but there are some recordings I didn't own, and hadn't even heard until this set came out. I especially like the book inside. There are some great pictures of Roy and his family and friends. I didn't know a lot of facts about him until I read it all. Four disks is never enough for me, because I am such a huge fan, but I wouldn't change a thing about the Soul of Rock and Roll. Two thumbs up from me!

This 4 CD collection is worth every penny spent. The quality of the recordings is very good and Roy's range is remarkable, he sings ballads to rock to blues. While listening to the first CD I realized how much of an influence Roy Orbison was to many rock groups that followed, especially the Beatles. The biographical book included in the box set is loaded with photos and personal and interesting details of Roy's very real life. I know he is in heaven and still singing.

This new Orbison box set contains 4 cds of greatness. It is considered by many to be one of the greatest Roy Orbison products ever. Even Rolling Stone gave it a 5 star review. It pours greatness from the moment you open up the package..... Personally, I am very glad that some of those 1950s recordings were made available to the public. The previously unreleased material (mainly from disc 1) is so great. The song "Tutti Frutti" has to be one of my new all-time favorite songs. Roy Orbison's voice is gold, and accompanied by some of the greatest musicians and songwriters, Orbison's voice sounds reaches a new level of greatness.

This boxed set consists of over 100 cuts spanning Orbison's entire career, beginning with his initial two bands, The Wink Westerners, and The Teen Kings. In addition to four CDs, the set contains his very first recording and one from his last performance (just two days prior to his death, and fittingly titled "It's Over"), as well as 12 previously unreleased cuts. The set also includes a CD wallet for the four discs, a set of postcards from his high school days, and a 96-page book with new liner notes from Roy's wife Barbara, Fred Foster, and his son, Roy, Jr, as well as numerous testimonials. It's all packaged in a gorgeous white linen box. No doubt about it; this is a great boxed set. I'm sure if one looked hard enough, one might find a small, inconsequential flaw, but I sure can't.

A collection like no other, including so many great songs, this box set is one of a kind, like no other Roy Orbison box set released before.... The cover of the set says it all, a man in black, with a "stoneface", resiliently living his life through his music, facing diverse situations, having not so good luck, singing to the world.... After opening the package and discovering the treats (photos, postcards, bio, anecdotes), one really gets the sense of knowing this great man. Roy Orbison's life may have only lasted 52 short years, but through great products like this one, his legend shall live for 72+ years.

Outstanding choices of music were included in this great set. 107 tracks total fill the air with superb melodies and harmonies. The unreleased songs should be considered gold. Those great early recordings that feature a 20-something year old Roy should be considered precious. The box set would be nothing without the great selection of Orbison material.

Ranging from the 1950s to the 1980s, this is the most complete box set to ever grace the Orbison name. Like nothing before it, this set finally gives a justified tribute to the purest voice in history.

When it comes to box sets in general, this one is definitely the cream of the crop. With my experience purchasing box sets (The Who, Led Zeppelin, etc), I know that this one is very exceptional. I really can’t think of any other Roy Orbison songs that haven’t been included in this great set. It has 107 tracks complete from the 1950s all the way to the end of Roy’s comeback in the late 80s. As far as the music is concerned, it was very inclusive, which I cannot stress enough. Many box sets don’t feature as many less known songs like this box set did. Overall it is the most complete Orbison product on the market.

What can be said that hasn’t already been said about this great box set? The music included is some of the best of the best. The previously unreleased songs included are gems. The cd liner notes book couldn’t be better…. For a reasonable price, rockabilly, country, and rock and roll fans can get this great set, featuring some of the best songs of Roy’s career, including some great b side songs. This set is better than any other set released by Barbara, and it was definitely worth the work put into it. Job well done! Looking forward to Roy Orbison releases in ’09!

Out of all the Orbison collections I have ever seen personally, none come even close to being as complete as this one. From the 50s to the 80s, the listener really can get a feel for the evolution of Roy's music. Starting out with a rough, rocky sound and passing through love ballads and pop songs, this album covers it all.

What impresses me even more however are the notes included in the set. Featuring quotes by The Beatles, Springsteen, The Traveling Wilburys, and more A-list personalities, this included book is a great value in itself. Overall, I would say this box set is a must. Its features and extras are far too good to pass up. You won't regret it.
