Canon Canon Speedlite Flash 580EX II
The Canon Speedlite 580EX II flash is the premier flash camera for all photographers, including professionals. Improvements have been made to match with the EOS-1D Mark III in terms of body strength, and the ability to control flash functions and settings from the camera menu (EOS-1D Mark III only). This Canon camera flash light time is 20% shorter than the 580EX and is completely inaudible. Sports and photojournalism photographers have a reason to rejoice as this is the first Canon compatible flash that is weather-resistant. It is dust and water resistant for added performance. Wonderful flash. Improved the light from the stock flash 10 fold. Love that I am able to adjust the angle of the flash in any direction to get the perfect shot! Awesome! I had a bad experience with a another seller and Walmart exceeded my expectations on shipping. Thanks!

I have several smaller flashes,, but this flash make the others look like low end flashes in comparison, I shoot a lot of weddings and when you need to shoot a group of 25 or so is small church or area it superbly handled the bounce you need to make everyone look normal , I myself use pre charged eneloop batteries which are equal to the 2200 mah rechargeable I have shot well over 400 shots with one set of 4 batteries I ordered the battery pack for this which is on back order then It will allow me to go all day and never shoot the flash empty, the recycle time is absolutely a miracle , I never once had to wait on the flash, it has mufti burst features , wireless features and is very weather resistant the size is much bigger than the 403ex, the build is very stout and easy to load batteries,its well worth the extra money and you will get so much more from your camera if you use this flash , every lens is about lighting and this flash helps give you the edge even on cheaper price lens, if you buy with a major credit card you get that extra year warranty as well.Do yourself a favor and remember the last time you had to shoot a group of 25 people and ended up with fall off due to a lack of lighting.

I have not owned an external flash since a 1970's version I cannot recall the brand. Hence, to encounter the functionality of the 580ex II is nearly overwhelming. I am learning. However, it is nearly as complex as my Canon camera. Nevertheless, out of the box, snapped onto the camera, I made some very credible portrait photographs. Now I am working on getting the "off camera" functions to produce as beautiful effects, too.

This is an exceptional flash. I used it mostly for wedding it is powerful enough to cover a group of 20 with a distance of 40ft. You cannot go wrong with this flash. Get it if you can afford it.

This is (at this moment) Canon's premier flash. It is very powereful. It's made strong so that you can bounce the light off the ceiling, wall or diffuser and still have enough light for a fast exposure.
It is weather resistant, and weatherproofs the hotshoe of certain camera bodies made to take advantage of that (1Ds MIII, 5D MII). It has controls to wirelessly sync any other Canon flashes. If you have any previous Canon flashes you can set them on tripods or stands for studio shots and this will light them off.
It has a nice interface, and is compatible with the extra battery pack, which you can fill with 8 AAs and will decrease the recycle time for shots, as well as giving you an extra couple hundred flashes. Also, the flash angle is adjustable in every direction, left or right,up and even slightly down (about 7 degrees)
Also new for this version is the lever lock onto the hotshoe instead of the ring. The lever is sooooo much easier to attach and remove. And it is also pretty much silent when recycling. You may have heard normal flashes that squeal when the flash recharges. This makes it great for events like wedding ceremonies and such where the laser like sound of a flash will be disturbing (although the flash itself is quite disturbing enough).
Pro: everything, although a diffuser (like the whale tail) is advised
Con: Cost. This costs a lot. The 430ex II does almost as much and is about 1/2 the cost.
I would recommend the 430 for beginners. The 580exII is good for your second flash when you know the ins and outs a little better and can start to use the exra features it can offer. However, the Canon 220ex is trash. Beginners avoid! Do not think about it.
