Archos Archos 5 60GB Wireless Internet Media Tablet

You can check the weather or see the latest sports results without having to start a new application. In less than three clicks, you can access nearly 1,000 Web TV channels, over 10,000 Web radio stations and 100,000 podcasts. There's no downloading wait time. Radio and TV start streaming right away from a worldwide list of traditional and independent radio and TV stations. Once connected to a WiFi or 3.5G4 network, the included email software allows you to check your emails from your email accounts (compatible with POP/IMAP) whenever you want. Your entire CD collection can fit on the Archos, too, and a music browsing system allows you to create playlists without using a PC.

Well made, thin, and portable.
Great for those who are familiar with multimedia files and/or movies.
Not for a beginner.
Screen bright and clear. Watch the higher resolution with the smaller hard drive. Will eat up space quickly.
Overall, nice unit.

I first bought a 2nd gen 32GB ipod touch and returned it the next day. Don't get me wrong, I am not a fanboy or here to bash Apple. The ipod touch, as a device, is no doubt one of the most technically advanced devices out right now, but itunes makes it completely useless to me.
So I bought this as an alternative and wow am I impressed! I can drag my entire folder structure of my mp3s onto the Archos, which my PC sees as a hard drive! That is exactly what I was looking for! I am primarily using this device in my car and I want the touchscreen ability to access my entire library of songs at my fingertips. This is perfect!
Yeah it freezes occasionally when browsing the web, and has a pathetic email/contacts client, but it is flawless when playing music or movies. The widgets are lame and I'm sure the picture viewer works just fine, but I'm not here for any of that. If you're looking for a device to play movies and music on the best screen on the market this is for you

I have had the Archos 5 for a couple of weeks now. After figuring out how to download the latest firmware and paying another $100.00 for the dvr station, it has performed wonderfully. I basically use it to watch recorded shows from the dvr and the picture is extremely clear. The sound is also amazing, through the internal speakers and the headset. I have browsed through the internet on it, but it doesn't seem to be able to read basic downloaded information (I'm not sure if that is the right terminology). Overall, I am quite satisfied with the performance, but I do think that the price should be a little lower. I would consider it a very overpriced mp3 player.
