The speakers are great. Media player is good but I seen better but this is great for the smart shopper. I use this one for the living room with the radio which is great. Phillips is just a name brand. I have a cheap one in my basement which I got free from Directv promotion which looks more expensive. But I would suggest getting a no namer.

I purchased this unit to replace a similar one produced by the same manufacturer (Philips) which had been damaged by a power surge. I assumed the newer unit would have some improvements, but have the same connections to allow direct replacement. Unfortunately, the manufacturer changed the configuration of the speaker connections, which required that the new wires be pulled through the ceiling for the rear speakers. Also, there are no audio "line out" connections as the old unit had, which prevents use of an audio transmitter for remote speakers. Definitely a step down from the previous unit, but at the same price.

For the money you can't beat this product. I bought a new hdtv at walmarts and decided after hooking it up to purchase a home theater system. The sound before and after is unbeleiveable. I have it hooked up in an inclosed porch which measures 20'X12'. You feel like your in the movies. If you turn the volume to the maximum, it will blow you out of the room WITH NO DISTORTION AT ALL! You may need to buy jacks for hook up depending which way you decide to hook it up. Other than that the direction are good and the hardest part for me was hiding the back speakers' wire.

Great system for the price, very easy to set up (I purchased this for my husband and I set it up all by my lonesome and had it connected and bumping when he walked in from work), and let me say that for the low amount of wattage it has some boom.

This surround sound is by far the best i have seen for its price. We first bought a RCA and it wasn't very good. It had a loud buzzing in the back ground and it didn't have a any mid sounds. It was either to loud or not loud enough. you couldn't hear the people talk just the background noise. We decided to check the ratings and it said warning fire hazard and all kinds of stuff. We finally found this product and thought we would give the online purchase experience a try. We got it home and hooked it up and loved it. The only problem is u cant leave it on to long because it gets very hot. Don't put anything on top of it like movie cases because it will smell like burnt plastic. The sound quality is GREAT, it really feels like u are in a movie Theater. i suggest U BUY this item its the BEST ONE out there, for the price!!!

Don't expect say, BOSE quality from this system; but for the price, it is more than sufficient for a home theatre system (living area or a bedroom). I have only had this surround sound for about 2 weeks now. It is in my basement and have not had many chances to get down there yet, but have used it a couple of times. After reading all the reviews I was expecting a lot more from this product. I thought it was going to sound great for a $150 price, however, it does not. But it does sound good for the price, but if you are looking for a good sounding system, this is not product! However, if you need something that is for a room that is not used ALL the time, or for a kids room, this product is good!
