Philips 42" Class Full-HD 1080p LCD HDTV, 42PFL3603D/F7

It's only 3.5 inches deep but delivers full high definition on a big bright screen. The tuner can receive conventional analog channels (NTSC), as well as digital channels (ATSC), including over-the-air HDTV broadcasts where available and unscrambled digital cable channels. Three HDMI inputs and a variety of other inputs make it simple to connect DVD players, camcorders, and digital cameras. Note: You must have a source of HD programming in order to take full advantage of an HDTV. Otherwise, the picture quality of an HDTV without an HD source may not be much better than that of a standard-definition TV. Please contact your local cable or satellite TV provider for details on how to upgrade to HD programming.

WOW! GET THIS LCD!, 03/18/2009

Well....after months of looking online for tvs i saw this one. For the price NO other tv comes even close to matching with specs as this one has. Around this price range limited my choices to Philips, Sanyo, Vizio, Insignia, Dynex, Sylvania, etc. I narrowed it down to either the Philips or Sanyo. I went with Philips and have not looked back. I cant believe what i see picture wise when i turn on my tv. on HD broadcasts the picture is just amazing. i can see things on people i have never seen before; like their pupils. I do have my contrast turned down to about 65 and i believe that made the picture look even better. I also have a Vizio 32 inch LCD tv which i love as well but it just does not compare to philips's picture quality. I have a pioneer dvd player that outputs 1080p and observing it connected through my Vizio and Philips via HDMI, the Philips wins because it seems as if it smoothed out jagged edges in some spots. The sound is also quite good for the speakers size and shape although i'm a bass man and love my bass...there could be a tad more bass output; but its fine for me. I got th is tv for 798 and i see it now jumped back to the 898 price. I would get this tv while its still availible. You WONT be dissapointed. :)

I bought this tv in a bundle package so the price was great. The only thing I don't like is that it is so basic. There are not a whole lot of feature, but overall the tv is great and i would recommend it.

I waited three years to finally buy my HDTV and it was worth the wait. I love the picture, it is very clear. It looks perfect in my living room. I also bought the Home theater system as well. It has an awesome surround sound. Feels like you are at the movies. Very happy with my purchase.

I purchased my 42" about 3 weeks ago. I think it was the best purchase I made thus far on Walmart. The price was not bad. I believe it was $797 so I just had to get it!

The picture quality is great. The sound to me is awesome.

Now as for features it doesn't have that much that it could do but hey it works for me

well a couple of days after new years of 09 i purchased this same exact t.v. but smaller. i purchased a 19inch t.v. set. it is now about 2 months after i've made my purchase and im verey happy about it . i payed a little over $300. about $317 or $320. i have not had any problems with my television set. in fact every1 in my family asks if they can watch t.v. in my room. the picture is amazing i have a old t.v. and then the new 1 i pulged them both in and you can see the difference and the volume is amzaing crystal clear.!!!

now the image that i've uploaded might look bad but its because i took a picture with my cell phone camera but trust me the image quality is amazing and same with the volume and how it looks its also very thin not thick..

now im 12 but this t.v. is somethin 2 save 4 i used all of my birthday and christmas money and other moneyas well !!! this t.v. is somethin 2 save 4 its worth it .!!!

Review 10 for Philips 42" Class Full-HD 1080p LCD HDTV, 42PFL3603D/F7

A good value, 02/28/2009
By nek1555, St. Augustine, FL

I love the crisp clear picture on HD channels. I feel that 1080p is necessary for a TV this size. Unfortunately, cable tends to compress their HD channels.

The reason for my less than excellent ratings in some categories is: There is a lighter area on in the top left corner of the screen. It is only noticeable when there is a dark picture on screen.

As in almost all LCD's, the blacks are not perfect black. I was expecting that.

I do not have any sound systems connected to the TV, I only use the built-in speakers. I am happy with the sound, but know it could be much better with a proper sound system.

I am happy with the simple menu layout, it was quick and easy to set all my preferences within a short time after turning the TV on for the first time.

I have my cable box and a blu-ray player plugged into the set.

THIS IS THE 3RD TIME H HAVE COMMENTED TO CUSTOMER SERVICE. THE TV CAME WITH A NON-FUNCTIONING REMOTE.
THE TV WHEN PLUGGED IN, A SCREEN APPEARS TO PROMPT THE USER TO PRESS THE GREEN BUTTON ON THE REMOTE TO CONTINUE SET UP.
HOWEVER, THE REMOTE DOESNT FUNCTION AT ALL. WE HAVE CHANGED BATTERIES, TALKED TO A PHILLIPS CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY SAID 20 PLUS DAYS TO RECIEVE ANOTHER REMOTE. THAT IS UNEXCEPTABLE . I PURCHACED THE TV OVER TWO WEEKS AGO. I CAN NOT USE IT STILL.
IF I KNEW THEN WHAT I KNOW NOW, I DEFINITLY WOULD HAVE PURCHASED ANOTHER BRAND.

We purchased this tv 2 weeks ago, and love it. We were going to get a Samsung, but couldnt find one, all stores were sold out because of holidays and superbowl. We saw the Philips and decided to try it at home (We would take it back if we didnt like it). Picture is great!!!! We dont even have HD yet, just regular Sat-Dish. Instalation was fast and easy. Everything hooked up in 10 minutes. Dont have Blu-ray yet, but Dvd picture is great. Sound quality could be better, but we are going to hook up surround sound anyway. Stand doesnt swivel, that would have been nice but no big deal. TV is upgradeable!!!! Nice feature. Over all one great TV. Cant beat the price. 42" for 40" price!!! Would Definately buy it again and have recomended it to friends and family. Cheaper than the Sony and Samsung, Picture just as good!!!! Cant wait to see Blu-Ray and surround sound.

Review 17 for Philips 42" Class Full-HD 1080p LCD HDTV, 42PFL3603D/F7

Excellent price/features, 02/23/2009
By MannyHD
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

I had been holding out for several years waiting for the price/performance to balance out a bit more. I had been looking at some other brands particularly Sony and Samsung, but for the price it was 720p for the same screen size and there was a considerable difference for one of those brands in this size with 1080p
I finally saw this TV at another store right next to a Sony Bravia and could not tell the difference in quality. Both looked excellent.
After digging around the Phillips web site I made up my mind to get this one.
It arrived within a couple of weeks of placing the order and the box was intact unlike some of the horror stories I 've heard from others. plugged it in, turned it on, ran the setup and voila! Great TV!. I have comast and when I ran the autosetup it found around 30HD channels. Only a few could be considered premium but the quality is still breathtaking.
I have a PS2, Wii, HTPC and PS3 hooked up to it and they all look great. The PS3 games have shown the most noticeable improvement over a standard 35" I had it connected to. My HTPC sure looks a lot better since the video card also supports HDMI.
Connectors include 4 HDMI, 2 Component, 2 Composite, 2 S-Video, 1 Headphone Mic and a USB port. You can plug in your flash drive and watch pictures or listen to music with it.
A big plus is that it has an SPDIF plug so I can connect it to my surround receiver instead of the mess I had before of having to have every device plugged into the receiver first. Best of all if the source is Dolby Digital 5.1 it will pass it through unlike some other TVs that have SPDIF out but downmix it to stereo.
The sound is OK for TV speakers but definitely weaker than my old tube TV. That's ok for regular TV viewing but for movies or games I turn on the receiver, not a must but definitely enhances the experience.
My only complaints are that when you channel surf there are channel info boxes that cover up the top and the left center of the screen and there is no way to turn it off. I have been to Phillips' site and it seems this is a big comlpaint since it was pretty high up the FAQ but their answer was that it was a normal TV function and could not be turned off. A glimmer of hope is that since the TV firmwaer is upgradeable via the USB port maybe they'll come to their senses and eventually add an option to turn off that feature.
My only other complaint is that the remote is very simple, which I like, but rather clumsy in button design and small for my taste. I am used to remotes with the Vol + and - on the right and channel up/down on the left which causes me to change channels when I try to control the volume. Just have to get used to it.
Overall an excellent purchase that won't break the bank. I would but another one tomorrow. Just make sure to get the extended warranty...just in case.

I saw that this 42 inch Philips LCD TV was on sale @ Target for $698 but when I got there it was sold out so I called Walmart and ask if they price match and they said they did as long as you bought in the flyer. So I went to Walmart and guess what they had the same TV for $698 and I didn't even have to price match it. I love this TV because it makes my living room much nicer.

Hard to find, 02/22/2009

Overall Rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

I researched a lot of TVs. I also went in store and compared. When I saw the picture on this one I couldn't believe the difference. I calld 8 different stores and none of them had it in stock. I finally spoke with someone at a smaller non Supercenter who offered to sell me the display. Unfortunately not at a discount. So far everything has been great except for the sound. Our surround system is a couple of years old and there are no RCA connections for it on the TV. It needs an SPDIF cable which I have only been able to find on-line. I did however find out from the Q&A section that you can connect with an RCA to mini cord. It's the cord that is actually for an IPod. It sounds pretty good. HD through the XBox 360 is awesome. Non HD channels are not so great. But, I understand that is the norm. Overall it's a good deal I think. But, the sound situation is not so great. You'll love the picture though. Good TV if you can find it.

DO NOT BUY PHILLIPS, 02/22/2009
By 1Fireman
Overall Rating: 1 out of 5 1 out of 5

I purchased a Phillips TV AT wal-mart and 3 weeks after the warranty expired the tv just powered off. After calling customer service they refered me to a local repair shop.. The repair shop said it would take $650 to fix it and that Phillips is one of the worst made tv's and have the highest priced parts. I can buy the part on-line from ebay for $100 but Phillips will not sell the part for under $500 and they would not help since the tv was "too far out of warranty". I WILL NEVER BUY PHILLIPS AGAIN.
