DO NOT BUY PHILLIPS

I purchased a Phillips TV AT wal-mart and 3 weeks after the warranty expired the tv just powered off. After calling customer service they refered me to a local repair shop.. The repair shop said it would take $650 to fix it and that Phillips is one of the worst made tv's and have the highest priced parts. I can buy the part on-line from ebay for $100 but Phillips will not sell the part for under $500 and they would not help since the tv was "too far out of warranty". I WILL NEVER BUY PHILLIPS AGAIN.

Philips 42" LCD 1080 worth VERY Penny

I've always purchased Sony brand TV's. After countless hours going store to store and looking at various brands comparing prices, picture quality, color contrast etc. I finally found such a unbelievable tv and price to boot. Move over Sony......Philips HD has arrived!!!! Let me say first the picture was truley amazing YES compared to Sony and Vizio and Sharp. Not only that but the Price of $798 floored me for a full HD 1080, this was a steal and I could not pass up.
The price was to good to be true I had to drive 45 minutes to another Walmart to get the last one they had I live near 6 Walmart's and they all were sold out. If you are looking for quality, price, and exceptional value DON'T PASS THIS UP!

Some channels aren't as clear as the display in the store but I read a previous post which explained that. My only gripe or problem is the remote control. The print is too small and dim and sometimes it doesn't show the requested channel without pressing several times. Where will I be able to get a new "clicker" if this one dies?

This TV has amazing picture quality - especially when running in HD. After a lot of shopping around, this was by far the best deal I found. Although I was nervous to spend so much money on one product, it was well worth it. I LOVE watching HD movies and all that jazz. :) Good investment.

Had the TV for 2 day's which the picture and everything was great but on the second day of watching it stopped working. I suppose it was just a bad batch; just hope it'll get fixed soon. Philips is however works well with the costumers.

Very pleased with this TV. My husband and I had been looking for several months for a good quality tv at a decent price. We checked around and found that Walmart was offering the best price for a Phillips 42" HD TV. I would highly recommend purchasing this TV.

I love my TV...i started dancing when i first set it up...it was very easy by the way. the picture wasn't "blowing me away" at first...so i consulted a few HDTV owners and they told me to tweak the settings...i did and i was then amazed at the picture clarity...me and my girlfriend watched a graphics heavy movie the first night and the characters were on a high speed chase and i saw my girlfriend fliching as if the things on the screen were actually about to hit her. we watched smoking aces and for a second...i thought ben afleck was in my apartment...it gets that clear...I try to only watch HD channels...everything else is a waste of time...sometimes i just have random out bursts exclaiming the love i have for my TV and i take offense when my girlfriend doesn't echo my sentiments 80) ...it's a great size...simply dwarfing my old college 27"...i thought that was big...it's sleek and light weight... the only knock i have is that the same tv is sold in target now for 100 bucks cheaper. I was a lil PO-ed when i saw that. but despite the "cost of advancing technology" (i bought the iphone when it was $600 )...i'm a very happy camper... I just bought a sick wall mount and it looks like its floating...good times for all. also, it get a little warm after being on for a while...not unbearable...just noticeable if you're close to it for some reason... and when ur not watching HDTV...u see this flickering white line at the top...an easy fix is to shift the picture up and ur good to go...a great tv...but it's cheaper elsewhere...

After a ton of research I fell in love with this tv. It fit my budget perfect and I couldn't be happier with this set. After reading how poor the sound was, after watching it for a few hours I was actually surprised that the sound was better than reported. I now have the set hooked up to my surround sound, but if you don't have one you won't be dissapointed anyways IMO.
Only knock I have found on this set so far is that there is a slight* motion blur while watching football in HD, but I can only notice it when I am really close to the screen. Xbox 360 looks AWESOME on this set also.. I am hoping to put this baby on my wall soon and get a Blu-Ray player to get the most out of this thing.

great television

I purchased this tv early December 2008. I purchased for several reasons. one reason was that it was advertized as having a contrast ratio of 29,000 to 1. That seemed like it would be better than other tv's listed as having 1500 to 1.
The Price was a big factor. At $798.00 it seemed like a good value for a 42" screen.
The floor model I saw at walmart just seemed to have a better picture than most others....although the Sony was a close 2nd if not equal.
The tv was so sharp and clear when we first hooked it up to a HD signal that we all said that it was actually wierd to be able to see that clear. We suddenly realized that a program about grasshoppers held our attention because of the clarity. Just incredible.
I would recommend this tv to anyone. want a bigger picture? You dont need it....if this isnt good enough for you then nothing will be.....
just triple AAA fantastic.
Buy it. buy it. buy it. buy it.

Had the TV for 2 weeks now and it has completely met my expectations. Just got HD today and the sports are fluid and pretty. Blu-rays look gorgeous but one minor problem. Some Blu-rays have what's called film grain, and in my opinion, makes the movie look bad. Not the TV's fault. If you're on a budget GET THIS TV!

I already have a Philips 47" which we love, I checked out Consumer report and that TV was rated quite good, in looking for a 42" I didn't see a review but bought it strictly on how much I liked my 47". I was not disapointed, this one set up even easier than my 47" and looks sleek and stylish and picture is crisp and clear. Also Philips are rated one of the best for sound, and this one is no exception, we never use our surround system.

I read the reviews before I purchased this TV. I have not had a minutes trouble with it. I even bought a stand from Wal-Mart to put it on. So, I didn't have to hang it on the wall. I know some reviews have said that the sound is not that good. But I have not noticed it being bad at all. I really have enjoyed this TV. I had a 19" before this one and the over all out come was not disappointing at all. I say if you are looking for a good TV at a good price, just go for it.

Having just recently purchased this TV 3 days ago, I donthave alot of insight yet. The First thing that Caught my Eye was the Price after doing some research I also learned the the 29000:1 Contrast Ratio Was better than even some Samsungs! having previously Ownwed a 50 Inch Samsung 720p Plasma The Difference in Picture blew me away this TV is Awesome the sound is Ok not great but to be expected from such a slim speaker come on people. My XBox 360 Games look Amazing and the HD Programming is Great also. I highly Recommend this TV dont let the PRice Fool you this TV has as good a Picture as Some 3x tthe Price that I looked at. Very good Tv, great price

I'm writing this review because, like you, I've been searching for a well made TV that's reasonably priced.
First off, let me tell you the pros of this TV.
The picture is absolutely stunning. When I first hooked it up out of the box I didn't have HD so I was beginning to worry but I popped in a Blu-ray of Eagle Eye and was completely blown away. The detail of this television is amazing. Using HDMI and my PS3, the picture couldn't have been any sharper at 1080p. Bottom line; to fully appreciate this TV you MUST have HD.
The sound is well above average and much better then my old tube TV. People shouldn't expect to get a surround sound through their TV. The quality is good and I haven't experienced any loss of quality of it. Only thing missing is the optical connection, but HDMI suffices easily. Bottom line; This TVs sound will do, but invest in a decent system to fully enjoy the experience.
The features are great and plentiful. A mass of HDMI slots (description says 3, I counted 4, only have 1 hooked up right now.) 2 or 3 composite connectors (Red,yellow, white) for your old DVD players and such. A side inlet for easy hook up of your video recorder. A computer connector so you can surf the web on it. And a USB slot to enjoy things off your iPOD and such. (haven't used it yet, but says it can play .mp3 music and .mpeg videos) which is a nice add-on. The tv also has a Coxxial audio out-put to connect with home theater systems, would've been nice to see HDMI or optical but you won't miss it. Sadly there is no video out-put as seems to be the new way to make TVs now-a-days. Also, the remote isn't the greatest, but it does it's job. While it's missing some features like PNP, it shouldn't be a deal breaker for most.Bottom line; This TV can accommodate many different types of connections, and also supports audio out-put. Invest in a new remote, or see if you can use your DVRs.
As far as meeting expectations, I am completely satisfied with it. The amount you get for you money is a very refreshing thing. At $795 this TV is a must have for anyone looking for great value and a great TV. It's very easy to set-up, and very user friendly. Overall this TV is well worth the sticker price and will leave you gasping for air when you see Blu-Ray movies in HD.
For the price, you can't find a better TV. All in all this TV is a great.
