Its so easy to forget your are on your period. I will admit, if you can get over the fact that they are a little messy when removing them, you will do fine. I usually remove them in the shower. The cups "empty" themselves when you use the restroom to avoid leaks. But I always use a small panty liner in conjuction. These things are amazing, and would reccomend giving them a shot. I have been using them for years, and would never switch to anything else. In fact I hate when I start my period and I am not prepared and have to use a tampon.

Maybe I'm doing it all wrong but it is so hard to take out!!!!! It makes the whole monthly process so unsanitary. Very disappointed... it is a good concept but they need to make something that allows you to remove it easily and cleanly!!

These are the best things you could ever use on your period! When you wear one, it's almost as if you aren't even on your period. They are also alot healthier than pads or tampons because they don't have scents or dry you out. They allow your natural cycle to continue during your period. You can even use them during intercourse! The only draw back, is that I have a hard time finding them! They are only available at one Walmart in my area. Other than that GREAT PRODUCT!

First time cup user. This is my first cycle trying and I have only used literally three cups. So my experience is limited. However, I had no idea how uncomfortable tampons where until now. I can NOT feel the Instead ring/cup :) That alone is worth writing this review. As far as insertion and removal, it's a learning curve, and I would suggest learning while at home for the first day or two. I tried reading and understanding others instructions, for example: "push up, then down", "down past cervix", and "past pelvic bone". I am only familiar with picture anatomy and have no idea what it would feel like to stuff a silicone ring down and up to the cervix and then resting on the pelvic bone. However, I am figuring it out and you can too. Removing and inserting while standing is definitely easier. If you can do this in the shower that is even better. I have not experienced leaks, however I rinse (or replace as suggested) and re-insert every 4 hours. TRY IT, seriously just give it a try.

I've been using the Instead cups for years and love the fact that I can't feel them like you can with a tampon and that I don't have to change them very often. There was a learning curve at first, but once I got the hang of it I never went back to tampons. Instead used to be carried everywhere but lately all of my local Walmarts stopped carrying them and Target did also. The only place I could find them was at a drug store and they charged an arm and a leg. I found out that you can buy them online at Walmart.com. Even with the added shipping costs they're cheaper than buying them at the drugstore so I'm happy. I would be even happier if Walmart started carrying them in the store and stocking the pack that's larger than 14.

Removal advice, please read,

When you insert this into your body think of it as a seesaw and push the end you touch down to let it dip down under your cervix to go into place. Package instructions for removal seem incomplete. They say to hook a finger under lip of softcup and steadily pull forward and out. My fingers aren't long enough to do that. Further research online taught me how to get it out. Easy, wonderful, so please don't abandon this product if it seems to slide too far out of reach in order for it to sit where it is supposed to! Put a foot up on the edge of the tub, or simply squat on the floor and pretend you are bearing down..miraculously this muscle movement will move the softcup forward enough to hook a finger under it. THEN you need to push it UP, the end you can touch, push UP (think seesaw again, you push up, and the other side goes down) and then bear down again with your pelvic muscles and it'll slide forward enough to then follow the package instructions of pulling steadily out! If you don't push it UP, the back edge could slide across your cervix and scrape you on the way out. Or, as was the case in my situation, the back edge just got stuck behind my cervix and I couldn't grip enough of the softcup to remove! Once you get the feel of this product for removal it is easy. It seems to hold liquid well for about 3-4 hours during heavy part of my cycle although I prefer to remove it every two hours during that time. During lighter times of my period I can leave it in for several to 6 hours. They say you can leave it in for 12 hours though I would never do such, just my own comfort level. Also, note that if you are in a public restroom and don't want to remove it, and are on a heavy flow day, just the change in your pelvic muscle movement while you urinate could make the softcup leak. No worries, when you stand up it slides back into place. Even when you sit next it stays in place. Something changes with your internal muscles when urinating and it moves the softcup a little bit. You may wish to wear a panty line or pad at first at least until you get a sense of how often to change it. The fit is much better for me than the other menstrual cups, (great idea but for my internal shape).

I've started out with pads then moved to tampons. Now, I use softcups. I still use pads just in case there's a little red spots but other than that no more tampons!! When I got my period, I got sick of it getting on my clothes (even after wearing tampons AND pads) so I thought I try it out. What's the worse that could happen? And let me tell you. First time, I was confuse. I put it in but didn't push it behind the bone. (You'll feel it) So I thought it got lost in there. It was hard taking it out the first time, but after that I knew how to do it. Read the directions FIRST before trying. BEST PRODUCT ever!! I will recommend to my sisters and then my daughters!!! Thank you SOFTCUPS!!!

Tips to make it easier and cleaner!

I just recently started using these. I love them! I was having issues with leaking no matter what. Pads would leak even though they were no where near full. Not to mention pads would twist and just feel awfull! Tampons always felt weird and would leak even though they were no where near full. I basicly had to plan on staying home during my period because I couldnt rely on any of the typical protection.
I noticed these hiding on the top shelf at walmart and decieded to give them a try. Just like tampons they take practice to figure out how to insert them properly. It took a whole period to get the hang of it. Here are some tips to make it easier:
Follow the directions to the T. Make sure that you point the cup DOWN as you insert it! This is very important to get it placed properly. And push it back as far as you can! For me this means that I can barely touch it with my finger.
I still have to change the cup as often as I would a pad or tampon for the first day or two depending on the flow. If inserted properly the cup will not leak unless it is full. After the first day or two I can usually go ahead and wear one cup for the full 12 hours. At this point I can go ahead and forget about it and I will often forget that I am on my period! Amazing!
Take the cup out very slowly. The first few times I just pulled it right out and it hurt my cervix. Be carefull!
I was having a hard time taking the cup out without making a huge mess. So I just went over to the first aid section and got some exam gloves. I just put on the glove, remove the cup, dump the contense into the toilet, I then hold the used cup in my hand while I pull the glove off over the cup turning the glove inside out with the cup still in the glove. Then I throw away the glove wih the cup inside.
Once the cup is out, I finish going to the bathroom. Then instead of wiping with toilet paper, I use flushable wet wipes to make sure I am good and clean. Then insert a new cup. I only use the glove to remove, but if you want to put on another glove to insert you can. Then wash your hands and you are done.
That is my routine. I just finished a period and it was the most worry free and non frustrating period I can ever remember having. I will never buy anything else. Well, maybe with the exception of right after having a baby, but even then I usually use Depends for a few days for that. But that is another issue.
Like I said, this takes practice. If you can feel the cup, take it out and try again because it is not inserted properly. It also helped to watch the videos that are on the instead website. That way you can see exactly where the cup sits inside of you and how it works. These videos made a huge difference for me.
Good luck!

I use a diaphragm so I thought this would be a nice product to try out for periods since it seemed basically the same fit-wise. The first two times I tried these though they didn't seem to fit like a diaphragm so I thought it wouldn't work for me, but I went on their website and re-read the instructions. When I followed the directions more carefully and pointed it downward and then upward once it was all the way back, then it fit perfect. It inserts different than a tampon so be sure to follow the directions. There are so many benefits to switching to these over pads and tampons that I actually DO recommend them to my friends. I put them at just 4 for value because they seem more expensive than pads or tampons, but using only 2 or 3 each day brings the relative cost down and I think the extra few cents are worth it. The reusable ones you can get on the softcup website would be an even better value though and maybe they'll start carrying those in the store too. I'd definitely use the reusable ones if they were easier to get.

I love Softcups! More comfortable than tampons. After having 2 kids, I found that tampons just weren't comfortable anymore. They just didn't feel right. These are easy to use and I feel nothing! I swim, go for walks, do yoga, ride motorcycles-no problems! Only downside is it can be a bit messy to remove. But, I'll take messy for the absolute comfort.

I tried these 4 months ago and I will never use another pad or tampon. They are fabulous! You can't feel them, no worry about TSS, no odor, you can wear them overnight, and have intercourse with them in. They have the best parts of tampons and pads. They look rather larger but they are pliable and easy to get in and remove. You get very minor leaks during bowel movements but that is it. You MUST try them. You will never go back. I wish Wal-Mart would start carrying the reusable ones.
