This Is NOT Distilled Water

I tested this water by growing cultures. In ALL 18 tests it grew mold. Distilled water does not grow mold as it is pure and any mold spores would die and be removed by the distillation process. This water may be filtered but it is not distilled. The label is a lie. Buyer beware.

Easier than making your own distilled water

I buy distilled water because I make natural hair products and I like to use distilled water in my hair because I do not want the chemicals from regular water mixed with my natural essential and carrier oils. I have researched and found mixed reviews on drinking distilled water. Mostly from what I read researches say not drink distilled water daily, as it could be harmful over time. I don't know...but I do not purchase it to drink, only for my hair product mixtures. It is easier than buying a distiller and trying to do it myself. It serves it purpose for me.

Distilled water NOT for drinking?

Whomever says distilled water isn't for drinking doesn't know what they're talking about. Distilled water is the most healthy water you can drink. True it doesn't have chlorine or fluoride in it but most people don't want to drink those things anyway. I ran this water through and actual distiller and there were absolutely no solids in it. I've been drinking it for 10 years and love it.

Really good value

I'll weigh in on the not drinking this stuff side. On the shelf at my walmart drinking water is right next to the distilled, I think it's a nickel more, and the brand name drinking water twenty seven cents more. I don't know, most brand name water tastes worse to me than tap water here in Clackamas County. I'm using the distilled water to season a humidor. It worked very well on one and I'm using it on another. It's ten times less expensive for a gallon than the stuff from a tobacco store is for a pint. Best as I can figure from readings both pedestrian and scientific, distilled water is distilled water. For a humidor you are just trying to keep mineral deposits from tainting the cedar or adding taste or building up (especially important if you're using the sponge type humidifier, but I'm not). For under a buck I have distilled water for life. I do understand it's not a good idea to drink, and, again, there is drinking water right next to it on the shelf.

A great product for most homes and families

I started using Great Value distilled water to make my coffee. Most tap water contains minerals and chemicals that alter the coffee taste. The difference is wonderful with no chlorine taste or anything else to rob you from that real coffee flavor. The same can be said for tea, lemonade, or any other concentrate. I now buy it by the case, 10 cases at a time, so I won't run out. I use it in everything I cook, drink or anything I add water to including my steam iron. I wish Walmart would offer home delivery. The cases get heavy.

Distilled Water

It is what it is. I tested it with an EC meter and there are no dissolved solids in the water. EC=0. The water tastes like nothing, just as water should with no dissolved solids. I have not tested the water extensively, as there are concerns with plastic and leaching issues, but again I have not tested the water with regards to the plastic. I use it for baking, drinking, and hydroponic gardening. If you have concerns about this water you could distill your own by purchasing a distiller for ~$150 upward.

The perfect distilled water has a completely neutral pH, but this is difficult to achieve in practice. Sears stock their distilled water in plastic jugs. Plastic will leach. Nothing is pure, so to say "no dissolved solids" is misleading. The best that I have been able to distill whiskey is to 195 proof (97.5%). I treat my distilled water with colloidial silver and the purest silver I can find is 99.999%. That EC meter you used has an accuracy of ± 2%.

Why can I not place an order on this product?
This is something that is often out of stock, and is used in medical equipment in my instance; I am not so much interested in the price but securing the volume that I and other C-pap users in my area are using. Although you do have the competitors’ beat hands down.
If I could purchase and receive a notice when product is in you don’t need to stalk large volumes in the store.

Tastes like plastic

We switched to the distilled a month or so back and Thursday i bought two jugs of it and it tastes like plastic. I called wal-mart and they confirmed I wasn't the only one to call and complain & they would refund my money. I won't be buying this again after my experience and reading the other reviews.

Lately, it appears that the vendor or producer of this product has changed --and the quality seems to be slipping. One more bad tasting jug, and I am switching to another source and my recommendation will be "no".

To Drink Or Not To Drink...

(Drinking topic continues!)
Even though I personally do not drink the distilled water I buy (for my humidifier or other things I do not want mineral deposits on), and I do not care for the taste of it myself, I do know that it is potable water, and for some even medically necessary. I have been told by a few people that have passed kidney stones that they will drink only distilled water because it was so painful to pass the calcified mineral deposits.

Distilled Water, not really for drinking

Just to counter the other review...This is distilled water, not filtered, not purified, but distilled. It really isn't intended as drinking water, but rather for various applications such as mixing with antifreeze. It is distilled to remove a large amount of the mineral content. You can't/shouldn't use tap water or regular drinking water for things such as diluting antifreeze as it will react to components and cause unfortunate and preventable damage (it will destroy some radiators if you don't use distilled water). We used to use this in chem lab on short notice when we ran over our limit with the lab setup to create distilled water (takes a lot of time for not a lot of water). Once again, this really isn't intended to be a refreshing beverage! I hope this review is helpful.

With all due respect...not true.
Posted 05/12/2012
With all due respect to the poster, the comment is not entirely accurate. Distilled water is good for drinking, and should be the only water used to drink and cook with. Why? Two words: chlorine and fluoride.
There is a lot of controversy over these two water additives but allow me to share what I know. Chlorine is added to water to purify it, but it has been proven that it contributes to cancer in the digestion system. There are much safer ways for municipalities to purify water and get the same results: hydrogen peroxide (food grade) and sodium chlorite. Both are inexpensive and neither has the undesirable (and dangerous) side effect. Fluoride, which has been touted to prevent dental caries (cavities), is a poison and should not be consumed. It is highly toxic (read the warning on your tooth paste tube) and it suppresses the immune system over time. Which is not a good thing. And just because somebody will take objection to what I just wrote, let me add this: The original studies showed that NATURAL fluoride bonded to calcium, which was believed to be beneficial for teeth. However, if in doubt, Google it and read for yourself the dangers of fluoride and fluorine.
The distillation process removes impurities from the water, which include most of the chlorine and fluoride. Yes, it also removes the minerals from the water, if there are any in the first place. But mineral solutions are inexpensive and can be purchased and added back into the pure distilled water. You can also add a small amount of organic apple cider vinegar or lemon juice (from a lemon, not a bottle with chemicals added) to distilled water to improve the taste and quality
In conclusion, I would be much more concerned as to whether or not the plastic jug was BPA free. It is a fact that chemicals from the plastic can leach into the water, and if exposed to heat or direct sunlight even more so.

Great Value pure water and no additives

I have been drinking this water for 2 years now. Never found even one jug with plastic taste as the other reviewer mentioned. I am very sensitive to any odd taste in water, which was why I chose distilled water with no additives. There are times the seal is broken during transport and water leaks out. But you can tell those jugs easily when they are not filled to the neck.

At first I thought this was a good deal, but don't waste your time or money. I'm very disappointed due to how bad this water tastes like plastic. I'm assuming that boiling hot water was immediately put into the plastic jug which makes the plastic chemicals that leach into the water even worse.
