This is a wonderful addition to the Harry Potter series as a sort of guide book. However it is best to read it last, because it contains several references to stories, events, tales and histories contained in the original series. It is annotated by Professor Dumbledore, and is altogether informative and witty. "He" manages to sneak in a few inside jokes, and reading all of them made me want to read all seven books all over again! There is one story there that pertains particularly to Book 7, and tells the legend of the various items of Death --- invisibility cloak, Sorcerer's stone, and Elder wand --- and harkens back to the memory of when Harry was able to come into contact with all these. JK Rowling is very good at wrapping up the few loose ends with this story book. It is meant to be savored, enjoyed, and read as a companion book to the other 7 she already published. I'm so glad that the proceeds of this book will go to a charity. You won't regret buying this book. I haven't found any adult or child who's read it who was unhappy with it. Take it with you to the doctor's office, to the salon --- it's better to read and pass the time with than any old magazine! :)

I would only recommend it if you want to add to your Harry Potter collection. I honestly didn't like it, I was so excited when I found it at walmart so I got it to put in my christmas bag. Well I bought it Dec 18 and thought , I swear I am going to read it as soon as we get home from family christmas. Well it is May 1st and I still have not read the whole thing. I read the first two stories and got bored with it. So it is sitting on my bookcase wedged between my US and UK versions of the series, were it will probly stay till my little girl is old enough to read it.I guess I just ecpected more from it than what it was.

Once I started reading the book I couldn't put it away till I finished it. I love J.K. Rowling, her books are so full of fantasy. You will also get some new views into the harry potter books, which she has done in a great way!

My 10 year old said she only read some of this book. I haven't read it but she seemed to like the other books I got her better. She read all of the Harry Potter books but didn't care for this one as much.

I expected quite a bit more from Rowling. Having collected all first editions of the Harry Potter series, I was thrilled to see the preview for this book. Not nearly long enough and somewhat disjointed with the commentaries dispursed randomly. It was ok, just not enough! I do agree that it is a must to add to the collection and with the other reviewers that said it was too short and would have enjoyed more stories. Come on J.K., please write some more...maybe another series.

I am a grandmother who has purchased the entire series of Harry Potter for my two oldest grand sons. I have read all of the books and was delighted that J.K. Rowling also wrote "The Tales of Beedle the Bard" as a companion book. This book is written much like a textbook - plenty of white-space and the illustrations are great. To make this experience even better, it is a "green" book. They used post-consumer recycled fiber. The net proceeds from every sale of this book goes to Children's High Level Group. A marvelous read and all those Harry Potter readers will enjoy this one too. It is sad to see the series end but this book is a bonus. Many thanks to Walmart for also keeping the price reasonable.

I ordered this book about a week before Christmas for my Grandson. We celebrate our Christmas on the 26th because of out-of-town family members. Walmart promised the book by the 26th. It arrived on the 26th. Just in time to open presents. Walmart came through again. My Grandson enjoyed the book so much he had it half read by the end of the day.

I really liked it for what it was, a collection of stories not unlike our fairy tales, stories that teach a life lesson. Each one has "notes" by Dumbledore that explain it, give history, perspectives from the "wizarding world", etc. Not nearly as good as the Harry Potter novels, but they do enrich the Harry Potter experience. Cute - I would recommend it.
