Here is what i wish someone had wrote before I made this purchase.
First let me start out by saying this product is great for what it is. When you buy a 270 dollar dvd player for car/truck whatever, thats exactly what you get. I knew this going into it, thats why I'm not as unforgiving as some of these people who write bad reviews expecting the world's finest dvd player for that price.
This is a VERY basic dvd player. There is nothing snazzy about the menu options, very basic functions, very basic looking, it's very basic.
On the other hand, the screen looks fantastic, when a movie is being played, the quality and overall picture is outstanding! And about the movie watching, just ground out the brown wire (which is the parking brake wire), any car stereo wharehouse worth it's weight in salt can do this without breaking a sweat. And that is how you'll watch movies while driving.
The face plate does have a USB slot, which is awesome, and very useful. I tried hooking up my Flip Video straight into the USB slot to see what would happen, and it charged, and played videos right off the Flip Video player just like a computer USB.
The AUX slot is also a great feature which I've never had in a car stereo before, and i LOVE it. I bought a seven dollar Scosche Aux Input Cable from Wal Mart that plugs into your Ipod (whatever you put a headphone plug into on your mp3 device) and the other end plugs into the AUX port, plays perfectly right through your car speakers. This dvd player also comes with a ZPOD link cable, from what I can tell is just a AUX plug with a red/white/yellow prong at the end of it, so you can play videos games, mp3 players, whatever you want through the AUX.
I do have to say, and this is what is lame about this product. When you are playing something through the AUX, and the screen is up (and yes, you can play aux, even movies, with the screen down. You can hear the audio, just can't see anything, because of course the screens down.) it's just a blank screen with AUX icon in the top right, thats it. No pictures, or icons, no nothing, thats the basic options again I talked about before.
There is a memory card slot on the face plate as well, I did stick a camera memory card in it, and it played a picture montage of every picture on the card, very cool. BUT, I can't seem to figure out how to save pictures onto the dvd player itself. I thought maybe you could save one, and add it as a background image to the main menu, but no. The manual is horrible, it doesn't explain much at all. Very vague, very unhelpful! So I'm assuming you can't save images to the dvd player itself, because it says nothing about it in the manual, then again, it doesn't say much about anything...so I'm still figuring things out as I go.
There is a detachable face plate, which is the reason I bought a dvd player in the first place. It's the small plastic piece below the screen and between the volume knob and memory card slot that comes off. The dvd player WILL NOT work without this piece, which I think is a great anti-theft precaution.
If you want something with snazzy features, and tons of menu options, this IS NOT the dvd player for you. Once again, it's operations are very basic, so are the menus. But screen looks great, movies look fantastic, aux/memory card/usb inputs are are excellent and are such a bonus! For the money, this is a GREAT dvd player. Just remember, You get what you pay for!
