The Carex Toilet Seat Elevator is designed to raise the height of the toilet seat to make sitting and getting up easier. This is a perfect solution for the elderly and for people with sitting and bending difficulties. It will especially prove useful to those with arthritis and limited mobility. It fits most elongated toilet seats and aligns perfectly to the existing seat and lid. Durable and sturdy, this has a weight capacity of 300 pounds. It is easy to install and works just as fine as without the elevator. It does not look artificial and blends well with the existing toilet seat. All the necessary bolts that are needed for installation are included with the product. This convenient toilet seat elevator comes at a reasonable price and is very economical.
Had to replace my 91 year old mother's toilet recently. Somehow she had a toilet that was 18 inches tall (just the base not including the seat). Most ADA toilets now are 16.5 inches. She has bad knees and is tall and that 1.5 inches made a difference to her. I ordered the Carex Toilet Seat based on good reviews to raise the seat.
What I didn't know is that many new toilets come with quick disconnect toilet seats (for ease of cleaning), they do not have bolts that run all the way through, they use a clamp on method to attach the seat to the toilet. This booster is designed for the old style toilet seats, it will not work with the quick disconnect seats.
I had to buy a new (old style) toilet seat to use with this booster. It works fine now but be aware of the new type toilet seats, I had never seen one before. The new style must be common, most of the ones at the hardware store were the new style and I had to search for a plain old toilet seat.

I like the height it gives. I am tall 5'7" my husband is 6'2". I love this seat because it doesn't look medical at ALL! It looks very nice. My seat cover fits perfect.

Review 3 for Carex Toilet Seat Elevator Elongated Shape
This helps with stiff knees without having to go to the expense of a disabilities toilet. Cleaning could difficult; we'll see. The bolt and wing nut are a bit unconventional but the spin-free plastic nut from my seat seat cover fits the included bolt. The metal bolt may also be prone to rust and on my seat, the bolt covers wont close because the bolt head is too large. All said, this gets the job done with minimal expense and effort.

Review 4 for Carex Toilet Seat Elevator Elongated Shape
It served my purpose of raising me off the toilet seat a few inches to make my independance a lot easier. The elongated shape did not match up to my toilet precisely, but close enough I could make it work.

Review 5 for Carex Toilet Seat Elevator Elongated Shape
I got this for my mother but I had years ago gotten one for a too low seat in my house. If you need a higher toilet seat temporarily or don't want the expense of buying and installing a taller toilet, then this is what you want. The removeables have the risk of falling off and they are harder to clean. This riser comes with two long metal bolts and wing nuts. (Loses a star because they really need washers. I used the plastic washers from the short mounting bolts from the toilet seat already on the toilet.) You remove the seat, place the riser on the bowl, put the seat on top of the riser, and bolt them all together with the long bolts and wing nuts.
The riser is bolted on so it isn't going to fall off like the removable ones can. You sit on the regular toilet seat. The opening is as big as the bowl opening so access is the same for reaching in. The best thing is that cleaning is so easy. You don't have to remove anything. Just put the seat up and brush and wipe as you did before. You can get these in round or elongated to match your bowl shape.
Everyone can use the toilet just as before. My mom loves this. She is 86 and wants to stay in her home as long as possible. She has lots of arthritis and osteoporosis so we are always afraid of a fall. Things need to be solid so if she gets a little off balance she can grab or lean against walls, furniture, or hand holds. The removeable one she had was just not secure and it was a little too high and was really uncomfortable to sit on. This adds 3.5 inches plus about 1.25 inches for the seat. And you can use whatever seat is comfortable for you.
I think there may be a version of this with sort of chair arms. This is okay if the person isn't too large to fit between the arms, there is enought space in front of the toilet for a frontal approach, and no other larger persons will be using the toilet. If the area of your toilet is cramped but the person needs something to grab sitting down and getting up, then you may be better with this simple riser and mounting a grab bar on the wall.

Review 7 for Carex Toilet Seat Elevator Elongated Shape
This has made life so much easier for me! I no longer have the intense pain of going from a wheelchair to the restroom, the elevated seat makes it simple, easy, and less painful. My only regret is that I did not buy this 2 years ago.

I was so glad to find this, and it was easy to install too! it really helped my dad, who had a hard time getting up and down from a standard toilet. Very pleased with it. Be warned, some toilets are round and some are elongated, make sure you know which, I had to return the first one I bought!

Exactly the right size

My husband has severe arthritis and will be having hip replacement surgery soon. I ordered this toilet seat for him to use before/after surgery. The toilet seat in our bathroom is oval instead of round. This seat was exactly the right size and fit perfectly.
I'm only giving this product 4 stars because it was more difficult to install than we expected. It sits on the commode underneath the original toilet seat and then you have to attach your toilet seat and the elevated seat together with screws.
My husband had a difficult time and said one of the screws wasn't threaded right. I'm not really sure what that means but from the way he was carrying on in the bathroom while he was installing this seat, it must be a bad thing!

This product is great for my hip issue. It is aesthectically pleasing to the eye and does not slip around or shift. It raises the seat up about 3 1/2 inches. I will now be ordering one for our other bathroom.

I did a lot of research before choosing this toilet elevator. I found similar items priced much higher elsewhere. I just had a knee replacement and have arthritis in my other knee. having the seat elevated has helped a lot. I would suggest this item to anyone who needs a little help. It's also nice to be abel to use your existing toilet seat. the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I haven't had it long enought to comment on how it holds up long term.

A well-designed and functional product that blends in well in appearance and has no negative features EXCEPT that the little cushion tabs on the botton have poor adhesion. Not a big issue but annoying when cleaning. Works well and is a good value.

This was the second one that we tried for my Dad. He is now able to get up off of the toilet by himself. It is also low enough that my Mom can still use it. It has the same opening size & shape as our elongated toilet seat, which was a big deal to my Dad.

Much better than a regular seat elevator because this allows you to use the regular toilet seat on top rather than having it always open. This allows you to use a cushioned seat. It also has a drip rail that extends into the bowl preventing accidental leaks out the side. No water is required in this unit to keep it in place. This is definitely a superior design.
