Better than the Philips DVR-3575,

This Philips DVR is excellent. I highly recommend it. The older DVR-3575 was a very good DVR, but the newer DVR-3576 has a much better digital TV tuner for cable channels. Excellent for watching TV and rapidly skipping through the comercials. Excellent for deleting commercials and dubbing to DVD those episodes you want to save. I hope Philips doesn't stop making HDD recorders.

After hearing how much my brother liked this product I look all over to get one and finally found that wal mart had on in the warehouse. upon arrival I spend an entire day try to make it work properly. after an hour and a half on the phone with the manufacutrers tech he determined it was faulty. so I returned it to the local store for a refund. The tech said they are hard to find and that they have had numerous problems with this unit.

I read every review on this site and amazon before buying. The only problem I encountered was dark picture which was easily corrected by changing tv settings. As far as shortcomings this thing is no TIVO but with a little patience and the manual handy it will cover the basic functions. I love it and have ordered a 2nd unit. It performs well enough I am disconnecting my Directv on June 12 and going OTA, a $75 dollar a month savings! The cost of both units will easily be offset in less than 1 year. If you are a techno geek and need the best of the best and only HI-DEF this is NOT the unit for you.

This is a very good product and does exactly what it is supposed to do. I got rid of cable and find this to be a good way to record my shows and watch them at a later date, the timer is like an old school VCR but I'm fine with that. The only other options are Tivo with it's monthly fees and the Magnavox H2160 that is made by the same OEM and is almost identical to this unit, same menu's etc. and the Magnavox is $50 less. I did return my Philips to Walmart and buy the Magnavox and am very pleased with it. the Tivo is a superior unit with a better guide and better programing as well as being HD but I can't justify paying a monthly fee to record free TV.

Philips Digital Receiver & 160GB DVR,

I got this product to receive digital broadcast TV and to get the benefits of DVR. It does both fairly well. I already had a Panasonic digital receiver with a VHS player/recorder and DVD reader/writer and (and as the Panasonic does) I expected the Phillips receiver would also pick up the analog signals while they last. Among the weaker stations, the analog signals will actually produce a picture with sound whereas the digital signals do neither. The Phillips remote is also laid out much less intuitively, and the record/pause feature isn't saved as a recoverable file in the same way that a scheduled recording is. Once you stop the record/pause function - everything you recorded is no longer recoverable, but while it's recording you can start watching from the first or as it records or skip forward and backward. Since it's about the only DVR I've found made for the US market, I have to say that it's worth what you have to pay for it and Wal-Mart is always one of the best places to buy anything.

I own this recorder for more than 6 months now. I am 100% satisfy the qualty, design and convenance. I previous own a Panasonic DVD recorder, It was so in-convenance, stupid design, and un-reliable( it will skip record your program, can't remember where you left, once you power it off). But this Philip recorder does everything you could expected and more. Digital turner have more station than the Panasonic and it's reception is so good with my old attenna. I use it to replace coverter box to receive free over the air digital stations and if you want to replace your VCR, this is one for you. I am highly recommanded. It good price in Walmart, if you check price of AMAZON you will know what I am talking about.

Price was right, it was very easy to use, very similiar to a vcr's setup. It had no lag like my old Toshiba did. However the pivture on my HDTV was horrible. No matter what settings I changed on the recorder or the TV it actually made it hard to watch a TV show. It also did not have a guide for what was coming on or what was going to be on.
Overall I found it lacking and I was highly disappointed. It would probably be best used with an analog tv.
I ended up spending the extra money and bought a Tivo and luckily that did live up to my expectations.

This is one of the few DVR recorders that also has the DVD player/recorder built in. So far, I am very happy with this machine. Set up was very easy. It allows you to customize your preferences. Records to DVR or DVD and is very versatile and easy to use. I love it for recording movies, editing the commercials out very quickly, and burning the movie to a DVD to keep in my personal collection. The only thing I am not fond of is that it is rather loud, emitting a low droning sound when it is on, but not enough to be annoying when you are watching a program, and the functions make it well worth it.

I bought mine about 13 months ago, and it was a bit more expensive then. It worked well until about 5 minutes after the warranty expired. Then the picture froze up while I was watching a tv show recorded to the hard drive, though the time kept counting the seconds down as if it were still playing.
None of the buttons worked, even the power button, so I had to unplug it. When I plugged it back in, it seemed ok at first, however it keeps changing the time on it's own. It insists on setting itself to 6am sunday october 7 2037. So although I can still play dvds on it, timer recordings are out of the question, which is unfortunate because that is pretty much the only reason I bought it. It was nice while it lasted, but for a little over 300 bucks I had expected it to work for a bare minimum of a couple of years.

I bougth this HDD 1 day and was ready to return the next. When it worked Day #1 I was able to set up programming, watch recorded shows, enjoyed the crisp digital tv channels. I almost was ready to recommend it to coworkers. Then suddenly on Day #2 with no warning it stopped working, all of sudden couldn't open the dvd tray, couldn't access any recorded shows, and the systems seemed to run/make noise with a mind of its own. Didn't respond to any remote or manual control instructions. It is possible I got a bad unit, but why go through the hassel.

I am very pleased with this recorder. I have just used the hard drive recording so far, haven't recorded anything to DVD. I went away for a week, and recorded all my favorite programs to the hard drive. It's just amazing, I didn't have to worry about having enough media for recording while I was gone. The picture quality is excellent on my standard TV. The installation was easy, just replaced my DVD player. I would recommend this item to anyone who wants to record TV without having to buy tapes or blank DVDs.

So far I am very happy with this product. Due to my schedule we record at least 2-3 hours of tv a day. The HDD option makes it very easy to keep track of what I have recorded. Also the editing function is very easy to use and makes it nice if you are going to place them on a DVD. Another nice feature is being able to watch another recorded program while it is recording or being able to watch what is currently being recorded. Overall a good product just a little pricey
