This unit is just what I needed! It is sized perfectly to fit where I wanted to put it and allows charging of two iPods simultaneously.
PROS:
- Two iPods at once is a huge benefit. I was using a radio that did not charge the unit for listening to iPods overnight. Daily I would have to recharge. Now they play and charge at the same time leaving them ready for usage elsewhere during the day on battery power.
- Remote control to change iPods, volume and other features without having to be directly at the radio.
- The sound quality is adequate for the size. It is not tinny and provides full sound. It does not give BOSE-like quality, but you also don't have to pay those prices!
CONS:
- The cable is hard wired into the radio and has a huge transformer box midway down the cable. I needed to thread the cable through furniture openings and the box prevented me from placing the unsightly box elsewhere. I also lose the extra length between the box and the radio because I had to thread it out. If you have similar issue, the cable will be about 4-5 feet in length beyond the box with another 4-5 feet between the box and the radio.
- The remote contains most of the functions, but it also aids in keeping the unit smaller. Ensure you maintain control of this device or many features will be unavailable.
- The display is adequate to show song titles from the iPod, but the unit does not do this. You either have a constant display of which iPod is playing, the time, or the DEMO mode display.
- I don't understand the reasoning behind the various cable inputs/outputs. Most TVs and VCRs have these connections if someone wanted to show something on an iPod over a bigger screen. The unit is not easily moved (if you had to thread your cable through a hole in furniture) to facilitate using it in this manner.
- No batteries to provide backup for the clock, if you experience a power outage and this is your sole alarm source, consider a second clock set a little later as backup, particularly if your area is prone to outages.
I do not use the clock/alarm/sleep features and cannot say how well they perform their functions. My sole purpose is to have a station that can charge while playing the iPod for nighttime listening.
The value I marked 4 stars because I feel the unit is slightly over priced for what you get and features that are not available. I saw similar units at half the price for 1 iPod, didn't believe the addition of a second iPod charging dock warranted doubling the price.
However, it is still a good unit if the cost doesn't deter you.
