Wrangler Men's Comfort Fit Jeans (also Lee and Levis jeans) 34-36" waist fit my spouse with a very short rise and very short legs: 26 1/2" inseams. (My husband wears short and extra short in Men's suits.)
Faded Glory and Rustler jeans do NOT fit my spouse who has a short rise. Yet Faded Glory and Rustler jeans wear better and longer than the Wrangler jeans. We have also had problems with these Wrangler jeans being inconsistent in size yet they are labelled the same size and seams coming a part during first prewash! This has occurred with about 4-6 pairs of jeans which I have returned to Walmart.
My son like my Dad has a very long rise. We have had 3 comparison try ons in WalMart stores for my spouse, son and Dad for jeans. Wrangler, Lee and Levis have a shorter rise than Faded Glory and Rustler jeans in the same waist size. Faded Glory and Rustler have the longest rise in the same size.
Wrangler Comfort Fit Jeans run large and baggy in the legs. The fit is good for a man with very muscular or heavy legs/thighs, middle age, etc. This is not the fit for a bicyclist, runner or tall, skinny physique. I have purchased over 30 pairs of these over the past 20+ years for my husband and uncle in different sizes.
My son grew from 5'4" to 5'9 1/2" and from 148-118 pounds (always with a long rise). My son has gone from a size 36" waist to a 30" waist in these jeans. My son's current height is 5'9 1/2" and 118 pounds. My son does track, cross country and football these jeans used to fit him BEFORE all of his training.
Wrangler Men's Comfort Fit Jeans hold up well everyday for a professional (sit at a desk all day engineering job). These are NOT the jeans for someone doing heavy yardwork or other manual labor. The jeans become very soft but are easily torn. We have had problems with tearing in the wash, dye/color transfer to our vehicle seats, etc. (Have also had these problems with Lee amd Levi jeans my spouse wears which were purchased at WalMart).
My spouse prefers the black jeans as he should be wearing Docker like pants to work but none of them fit him with his short rise. He takes his jeans to our local Dry Cleaners to keep the color from fading. His work dress attire is a business suit OR these jeans in black for work and navy for casual attire for the past 10-20+ years.
My 84 yr old Dad is 5'8" tall and has been roughly 142 pounds since he was in the Army during WWII at the age of 17 years: I buy him 36" waist as he likes his waist loose. For years he wore 34" waist until he had some abdominal surgery and wanted to wear jeans loose in the waist. Perfect 40 Regular in a suit since he was 17 years old: these Wrangler Comfort Fit Jeans are too loose in the legs for him.
Recommendation: try the jeans on in the store OR order different sizes and/or brands online. Do a comparison at home and return the brand which doesn't fit quite as well. I also have my husband, son and Dad try on different waist sizes so I can compare the fit from the back in the seat and legs. Son looks better in 30" waist, 31" waist was too big. Dad could have worn 34" waist in legs but waist was slightly too tight. Wrangler jeans are too baggy in the legs for them.
Wrangler, Lee and Levi's brands tend to be too tight in the rear seat bottom for my son and Dad. When I look at the proper size Wrangler's, Lee and Levi jeans for them they are pulled up tight in the rear rise/seat yet the back pocket area fits fine. This problem NEVER occurs in these brands for my husband with the short rise.
NOTE: this is something you can NOT see on yourself in the mirror so ask a close family member or friend to check this for you at the store or at home. Looking over your shoulder in the mirror distorts the view and changes the "fit".
My husband wears a 34" - 36" waist and the shortest length we can buy to alter to a 26 1/2" inseam.
